Abstract

Coffee drinking habits exist in Indonesian culture. Coffee as the primary source of caffeine is here the effect of embryotoxicity on paralysis, wrong brain. The brain is going on so that the body is a curiosity. Fibronectin and shroom proteins play in the primary stacking cage, which is the seasoning of the nerve roof. This study aimed to predict molecular inhibition of compounds in coffee in fibronectin protein and shroom protein in silica. The research method used samples of ligands and target proteins from the PubChem database and protein databank, then analyzed using PyRx, Discovery Studio, and PyMol software. The results of the study of literature there are five compounds in coffee. As a result of molecular docking simulation analysis, caffeine compounds (CID 2519) had lower total binding energy (-9.9 kcal/mol) in other combinations in fibronectin and shroom proteins. There are six residues of the amino acid fibronectin and 5 in shroom with caffeine. There are chemical bonds provided for caffeine compounds consisting of hydrophobic, alkyl, Van der Waals, and electrostatic. Caffeine can inhibit fibronectin and shroom protein activity and in vitro and in vivo tests to validate bioinformatics results.

Abstract

Dengue fever (DF) is a viral disease transmitted by the Aedes aegypti (Linnaeus) mosquito, which has the fastest spreading cases. Drug and vaccines are still unavailable, so the Government is focusing on mosquito control. One method of biological control is to use betta fish (Betta splendens) as predators of Ae. aegypti larvae. Betta fish have various varieties, which may have different abilities in preying on Ae. aegypti larvae. The study aimed to analyze the potential for controlling Ae. aegypti larvae using three varieties of B. splendens fish (multi-colored plakat koi, xanthic morph plakat, and halfmoon varieties) during the day and evening. The test was carried out by inserting 25 Ae. aegypti larvaes into an aquarium containing B. splendens fish. Testing starts at 12.00 and 15.00 WIB and replicated five times. Observations started from the fish started preying on larvae until the fish ate all larvae. The predation ability of each variety of B. splendens fish based on predation time was analyzed using the one-way ANOVA test and the unpaired data t-test. The analysis showed that the multi-colored koi plakat variety preyed Ae. aegypti larvae faster than the xanthic morph plaque variety (P < 0.05) and not significantly different from the halfmoon variety (P > 0.05). There was no difference in the ability of B. splendens fish to prey larvae during the day and evening (P > 0.05). B. splendens fish, the multi-colored koi plaque variety, and the halfmoon variety can be biological predators of Ae. aegypti larvae.

Abstract

Latar Belakang: Demam Berdarah Dengue (DBD) masih menjadi penyakit tropis yang endemis di Indonesia sepanjang tahun. Beberapa agen biologis yang terbukti mampu mengendalikan populasi larva vektor DBD adalah kelompok mikroorganisme dan predator alami seperti ikan pemakan larva. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pola makan ikan setan hitam (Apteronotus albifrons) dalam memakan larva nyamuk Aedes aegypti. Metode: Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian eksperimental laboratorium dengan desain one-shot case study. Pengujian dilakukan dengan cara 25 ekor larva nyamuk Ae. aegypti instar III dimasukkan ke dalam akuarium kaca berisi 1 ekor ikan A. albifrons yang dipuasakan satu hari sebelum perlakuan. Replikasi dilakukan sebanyak 4 kali. Pengamatan dilakukan setiap 20 menit sampai semua 25 larva habis dimakan oleh ikan A. albifrons. Data waktu ikan mulai memakan dan waktu larva habis dimakan dicatat dalam penelitian ini. Hasil: Rata-rata waktu ikan setan hitam (A. albifrons) memulai memakan larva adalah 10,5 menit. Ikan A. albifrons dapat memakan habis 25 ekor larva nyamuk Ae. aegypti dengan rata-rata waktu 3 jam 30 menit. Kesimpulan: Ikan setan hitam (A. albifrons) memiliki potensi sebagai agen biologis alami vektor DBD.

Abstract

Latar Belakang: Demam Berdarah Dengue adalah salah satu penyakit infeksi arbovirus yang endemis di Indonesia sepanjang tahun. Kementerian Kesehatan telah menetapkan penggunaan ikan predator larva sebagai program 3M Plus untuk menurunkan infeksi dengue. Tujuan penelitian adalah menganalisis kemampuan ikan black skirt tetra (Gymnocorymbus ternetzi) memangsa larva Aedes aegypti. Metode: Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian eksperimental laboratorium dengan desain post test only control group design. Eksperimen ini menggunakan 4 kelompok ikan, yaitu tetra merah, tetra oranye, dan tetra hijau. Ikan cupang serit sebagai kelompok kontrol. Pengujian dilakukan dengan cara akuarium kaca diisi 1 liter air, 1 ekor ikan, dan 25 larva Ae. aegypti instar III. Replikasi setiap kelompok sebanyak 5 kali. Data jumlah larva yang dimangsa oleh ikan selama 20 menit dianalisis dengan sofware SPSS dengan uji Kruskall Wallis. Hasil: Rerata jumlah larva yang dimangsa adalah ikan tetra merah (22,20 larva), ikan tetra hijau (18 larva), ikan tetra oranye (15,20 larva), dan ikan cupang serit (25 larva). Uji statistik Kruskall Wallis menunjukkan bahwa keempat ikan uji memiliki kemampuan yang berbeda nyata dalam memangsa larva Ae. aegypti dengan nilai p = 0,015 (p < 0,05). Kesimpulan: Ikan tetra (G. ternetzi) yang memiliki kemampuan paling baik dalam memangsa larva Ae. aegypti dengan jumlah larva yang dimakan paling banyak selama 20 menit adalah ikan tetra merah, ikan tetra hijau, dan terakhir ikan tetra oranye

Abstract

The hearing, smell, and taste systems are important parts of humans because they function to respond to the surrounding environment. People of all ages often ignore ear hygiene and health. Nasal disorders are a disease that is often found in society. The community service activities were attended by high school biology teachers in Sidoarjo City. This activity is based on the results of observations with partners about learning needs and learning topics that are considered difficult by the teacher. Teachers have a role in forming good and healthy behavior for students. This community service aims to reinforce biological material concepts on the topic of hearing, smell, and taste systems to high school Biology MGMP teachers. The way to carry out community service is in the form of concept imposition. Activity stages include pre-activity, during-activity, and post-activity. The concepts given to participants are the hearing, smell, and taste systems. The results of the activity include participants taking part in the activity during three face-to-face meetings. The first meeting used Zoom. The second and third meetings were at the school. The participant with the high score gets the Human Ear Anatomy Model. There was an increase in the post-test score compared to the pre-test score after participants followed the material with the resource person, amounting to 33.53% at the first meeting and 89.42% at the second meeting. This activity can be held again through a laboratory practicum and experience-based learning for the next project. Keyword: Teacher, Biology, Ear, Nose, Tongue Abstrak Sistem pendengaran, pembau, dan perasa merupakan salah satu indera penting pada manusia yang berfungsi untuk merespon lingkungan di sekitarnya. Masyarakat segala umur sering mengabaikan kebersihan dan kesehatan telinga. Gangguan penyakit pada hidung adalah penyakit yang sering dijumpai di masyarakat. Kegiatan ini didasari hasil observasi dengan mitra kebutuhan belajar dan topik belajar yang dianggap sulit oleh guru. Guru memiliki peran membentuk perilaku baik dan sehat kepada siswa. Pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberikan penguatan konsep materi biologi topik sistem pendengaran, pembau, dan perasa kepada MGMP Biologi Sidoarjo. Metode pelaksanaan pengabdian masyarakat berupa penguatan konsep. Kegiatan dilaksanakan pada guru biologi di Sekolah Menengah Atas di Sidoarjo. Tahapan kegiatan meliputi pra-kegiatan, saat kegiatan, dan pasca kegiatan. Konsep yang diberikan kepada peserta adalah sistem pendengaran, pembau, dan perasa. Hasil kegiatan meliputi peserta mengikuti kegiatan selama tiga kali tatap muka. Pertemuan pertama dilaksanakan secara online dengan zoom. Pertemuan kedua dilaksanakan secara offline di sekolah. Peserta dengan nilai terbaik mendapatkan souvenir berupa torso sistem indera telinga. Ada peningkatan nilai post-test dibandingkan nilai pre-test setelah peserta mengikuti materi dengan narasumber, sebesar 33,53% pada pertemuan pertama dan 89,42% pada pertemuan kedua. Kegiatan ini dapat diadakan kembali dengan praktikum laboratorium dan pembelajaran berbasis pengalaman untuk kegiatan selanjutnya. Kata kunci: Guru, Biologi, Telinga, Hidung, Lidah

Abstract

Virus berpengaruh di dalam kehidupan manusia sehingga menjadi materi esensial di kelas X SMA/MA sekaligus modal belajar di Fakultas Kedokteran. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk mendeskripsikan pengalaman guru biologi dalam pembelajaran virus. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian observasional cross sectional dengan menggunakan kuesioner. Responden adalah guru biologi SMA/MA se-Sidoarjo. Data dikuantifikasi, penyajian data, dan dilakukan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil didapatkan dominan guru menilai materi tergolong sedang (56%), jurusan S-1 Biologi (69%), pernah kesulitan ketika menyampaikan materi (94%) dan menjawab pertanyaan siswa (78%) tentang proses/ mekanisme (31%), sarana prasarana laboratorium biologi kurang menunjang topik virus (83%), membuat model virus 3 dimensi sebagai aktivitas praktikum (36%), virus bakteriofage paling banyak dikenalkan kepada siswa (22%). Guru mengajarkan topik virus HIV tetapi masih ditemukan 8% guru belum menguasai konsep virus dengan baik. Topik virus SARS dijelaskan dengan lancar (28%). Data ini menjadi referensi untuk penelitian pendidikan kedokteran, selain itu program pengabdian masyarakat kepada guru.

Abstract

Stunting atau perawakan pendek (shortness) pada balita masih menjadi masalah gizi kronis yang penting di Indonesia, yang ditandai dengan ukuran tinggi badan yang kurang dibandingkan dengan umur. Peran ibu sangat penting untuk mencegah balitas stunting. Hasil studi literatur didapatkan faktor risiko dari ibu yang berperan adalah tinggi badan, status gizi, BMI, usia, pengetahuan, pendidikan, pekerjaan, perilaku pola asuh, perilaku menyusui, memiliki anak banyak, mengunjungi layanan kesehatan lebih dari tiga kali selama kehamilan, memiliki alat komunikasi (ponsel), riwayat penggunaan obat cacing selama kehamilan, dan riwayat ibu merokok. Intervensi pada ibu harus dioptimalkan untuk mencegah balita stunting.

Abstract

Urolithiasis in Asia affects about 1% - 19.1% of the population. Urolithiasis disease in young patients has a significant morbidity rate. Basic metabolic disorder such as cystinuria are often associated with urolithiasis. Cystinuria, a congenital cystine metabolism disorder with an incidence ratio of 1:7,000. Cystinuria is a common condition among urolithiasis patients. The paper aims to summarize recent efforts in secondary prevention to reduce the risk of urolithiasis in cystinuria patients through early detection and prompt treatment. This paper is a narrative review using the literature study method regarding the latest secondary prevention efforts. The library used 24 pieces of literature from research journals and international case reports. Early detection efforts include tracing medical history and urinalysis, followed by an initial diagnosis using PCR, sodium cyanide-nitroprusside test, and attenuated total reflection - fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR) can confirm the diagnosis of cystinuria. Thiopronine treatment is currently the main choice, accompanied by a special diet and plenty of water consumption. Another pharmacological therapy (tolvaptan) is still under development and showing promising results. Secondary prevention efforts for cystinuria patients are needed to prevent an adverse urolithiasis event and help reducing morbidity rate.

Abstract

The relatively high rate of helminth infections in Indonesia has prompted scientists to explore the potential of plants as natural anthelmintics, aiming to replace synthetic options that are known to have side effects. This study aims to determine the potential of n-hexane extract from Momordica charantia leaves to cause mortality in Ascaris suum. This research is an experimental laboratory using post-test only control group design. There were seven treatment groups in this study, namely 2,500 ppm, 5,000 ppm, 10,000 ppm, 15,000 ppm, and 20,000 ppm of n-hexane extract of Momordica charantia leaves, a negative control group containing 0.9% NaCl, and a positive control group containing 8,000 ppm albendazole. Ascaris suum is obtained from pig intestines. Ascaris suum was incubated for 24 hours at 37oC. Data analysis was done using the pearson correlation and probit analysis. The extract causes Ascaris suum mortality with LC99 of extract = 23,940 ppm. Ascaris suum mortality with high concentration was strongly correlated (Sig. (2-tailed) 0.971). n-hexane extract from Momordica charantia leaves has the potential to cause Ascaris suum mortality.

Abstract

Background: The Aedes aegypti mosquito is a vector of many diseases that transmit diseases such as yellow fever, filariasis, chikungunya, zika, and Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever (DHF). The eradication of DBD mosquito is carried out mainly in places that have potential to become mosquito habitats, like containers or water reservoirs. Community action against the eradication of mosquito nests (PSN) rated 3M PLUS is still less, especially in draining the bathtub regularly. This paper aims to collect information on the characteristics of the container and its effect on the presence of aedes aegypti mosquito larvae so that a model of a mosquito larva-free bathtub can be created based on the morphometric study.Method: This paper is a narrative review of literature that analysed 21 research journals from 2015 to 2019, consisting of 17 Indonesian journals, four English journals, two books, and four articles Indonesian Ministry of Health. Result: The study found bathtubs that aren’t at risk as breeding places for larvae, are made of cement, are textured, brightly coloured, such as yellow, orange, or light green, have a cover, volume less than 50 litres, and a height of 80 cm.Conclusion: Bathtub’s becomes the most potential breeding place for Aedes aegypti. Based on the literature study, the characteristics of the bathtub can influence the presence of mosquito larvae, so to achieve a larvae-free bathtub, the bathtub can be modified according to the characteristics that have already been found.
