Abstract

Xestospongia sp. is a barrel sponge belonging to the phylum porifera of the class Demospongia. This sponge abundant in coral reefs ecosystem. It is a filter feeder where the filtering of nutrients available in the environment occurs in the pores along the body. Various microorganisms in the seawater were exposed to sponges, so that they can produce various biological activities. This study aims to determine the antioxidant activity of crude protein from sponge Xestospongia sp from Spermonde waters of Sulawesi Island. The protein of the sponge was extracted using ammonium sulfate. Then, the protein was determined by the Lowry method in each fraction. Furthermore, the antioxidant activity was carried out by the DPPH method. The crude protein extracts in various fractions produced intermediate antioxidant activity produced from each fraction. They are fraction 1 (0-30%) of 81.31 ppm, fraction 2 (30-60%) was 180.22 ppm, and fraction 3 (60–90%) was 93.97 ppm, while crude protein was 128.33 ppm.The ascorbic acid as a positive control has antioxidant 2.98 ppm.

Abstract

Salah satu komoditas unggulan Kalimantan Barat di bidang holtikultura adalah buah Nanas dengan jumlah produksi sebesar 76.400 ton pada tahun 2019. Buah Nanas dijual dalam kondisi segar maupun berbagai jenis olahan. Pengembangan hasil olahan Nanas berpotensi memberikan kontribusi pada peningkatan volume sampah organik di Kalimantan Barat. Sampah menjadi isu global yang dapat mengakibatkan pencemaran lingkungan dan gangguan kesehatan manusia apabila tidak dikelola dengan baik. Hingga saat ini, penanganan sampah masih menjadi problematika yang belum terselesaikan. Slogan Reuse, Reduce dan Recycle (3R) telah menginspirasi masyarakat dalam melakukan pengelolaan sampah secara sistematis dan berkelanjutan. Kegiatan PKM ini bertujuan untuk menerapkan pemahaman dan meningkatkan skill sejak dini dalam pengelolaan limbah organik menjadi produk yang lebih bermanfaat bagi lingkungan. Sampah limbah Nanas dapat diolah menjadi produk yang memiliki nilai tambah dan bermanfaat. Kegiatan pelatihan dilaksanakan pada September 2022 dengan peserta siswa SMUN 3 Pontianak sebanyak 40 orang. Kegiatan dilaksanakan dengan metode ceramah dan praktek membuat eco-enzyme. Sedangkan, evaluasi kegiatan dilaksanakan melalui kuis pada saat pre-test dan post-test, serta evaluasi keterampilan siswa dalam mempersiapkan proses fermentasi. Hasil penelitian yaitu pembuatan ekoenzim dilakukan dengan pencampuran bahan dengan perbandingan limbah kulit Nanas : gula aren : air sebesar 3 : 1 : 10. Fermentasi dilakukan ± 3 bulan. Kegiatan mandiri ini menunjukkan antusiasme dan semangat dari peserta mengikuti seluruh proses kegiatan. Selain itu, peserta menjadi lebih terampil dalam mengolah limbah menjadi larutan ekoenzim. Training and Socialization of Pineapple Peel Waste Fermentation to Eco-enzyme as the Implementation of the Slogan Reuse, Reduce dan Recycle  One of the featured commodities of West Kalimantan in the horticulture sector is Pineapple with a total production of 76,400 tons in 2019. Pineapple is sold in the form of fresh or in various types of processing. The development of processed pineapple has the potential to contribute to increasing the volume of organic waste in West Kalimantan. Garbage is a global issue that cause environmental pollution and human health problems if not managed properly. Until now, waste management is still an unresolved problem. The slogan Reuse, Reduce and Recycle (3R) has inspired the community to carry out waste management systematically and sustainably. This community services aimed to apply understanding and improve skills in managing organic waste into useful products to the environment. Pineapple waste can be processed into products that have an added value and useful. The community service activity was carried out in September 2022 with participants from SMUN 3 Pontianak as many as 40 students. Activities were carried out with the lecture method and practice of making eco-enzymes. Meanwhile, evaluation was done through quizzes during the pre-test and post-test, as well as evaluating students' skills in preparing for the fermentation process. The result showed that the production of eco-enzymes was done by mixing the ingredients with a ratio of pineapple waste: palm sugar: water of 3 : 1 : 10. Fermentation was carried out for ± 3 months. This activity showed the enthusiasm of the participants to attend in the whole process of this activity. In addition, the skill of the participants was increased in processing organic waste into an eco-enzyme

Abstract

Pandemi Covid-19 berdampak secara langsung terhadap penurunan daya beli masyarakat, serta krisis pemenuhan kebutuhan pangan khususnya sumber protein. Perlu adanya usaha nyata untuk meningkatkan keterampilan masyarakat, salah satunya dengan budidaya Ikan Lele sistem bioflok. Ikan Lele merupakan komoditas budidaya air tawar bernilai ekonomis tinggi, mengandung gizi lengkap, harga murah, serta banyak dikonsumsi oleh masyarakat. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk melakukan sosialisasi sistem budidaya yang praktis, ramah lingkungan, efisien, dan berkelanjutan. Selain itu, kegiatan pelatihan diharapkan dapat memberikan keterampilan bagi masyarakat dalam berwirausaha. Kegiatan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat ini dilaksanakan pada tanggal 19 September 2021. Mitra kegiatan yaitu warga Kompleks Perumahan Afifah Hilya Regency, Desa Mekar Baru, Kecamatan Sungai Raya, Kabupaten Kubu Raya, Kalimantan Barat. Kegiatan dilakukan dengan metode ceramah, diskusi, dan praktek. Sebelum kegiatan, sebanyak 10% masyarakat telah mengetahui tentang budidaya sistem bioflok. Selain itu, semua peserta (100%) juga belum mengetahui tentang probiotik, komposisi, dan cara pembuatannya. Pada evaluasi yang dilakukan di akhir kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa 100% peserta telah memahami metode budidaya dengan sistem bioflok, serta pemanfaatan probiotik untuk meningkatkan imunitas tubuh ikan terhadap kemungkinan serangan penyakit. Training on the Cultivation of Catfish (Clarias sp.) with the Biofloc System for the Community of Mekar Baru Kubu Raya The global pandemic Covid-19 has a direct impact on the decline in public purchasing power, as well as the crisis in fulfillment of food needs, especially protein sources. There needs to be a real effort to improve community skills, one of which is by cultivating catfish with a biofloc system. Catfish is a freshwater aquaculture commodity with high economic value, complete nutrition, low price, and much consumed by the community. This activity aimed to disseminate practical, eco-friendly, efficient and sustainable cultivation systems. In addition, training activities were expected to provide skills for the community in entrepreneurship. This community service activity was carried out on 19th September 2021. The partners are residents of the Perumahan Afifah Hilya Regency, Mekar Baru Village, Sungai Raya District, Kubu Raya Regency, West Kalimantan. Activities were carried out using lecture, discussion, and practice methods. Prior to the activity, only as much as 10% of the community had known biofloc cultivation system. In addition, all participants (100%) did not comprehend as well about probiotics, their composition, and how to make them. The evaluation was carried out at the end of the activity, showed that 100% of the participants had understood the cultivation method with the biofloc system, as well as the use of probiotics to increase the fish immunity against possible disease attacks.

Abstract

Sargassum belongs to Phaeophyceae is widely distributed in Indonesian waters, including Kabung Island. Seaweed has bioactive compounds that potential to be developed. In the health sector, one of the global problems that still increasing is the bacterial infection. This condition leads us to explore antibiotic from natural resources to overcome this problem. Sargassum grow abundantly in the waters of Kabung Island and this genus has not been utilized by local community. For this reason, the aim of this study is to evaluate the antibacterial and cytotoxic activity from ethyl acetate extract of Sargassum from Kabung Island, West Kalimantan. Antibacterial activity test of the ethyl acetate extract against E. coli and S. aureus was conducted using the diffusion method with concentration series of 100; 50; 25; 5; 1; and 0.1 g/mL. While, the assessment of cytotoxic activity was carried out with concentration of 10; 100 and 1000 g/mL. The result showed that ethyl acetate extract of Sargassum from Kabung Island only showed antibacterial activity against E. coli bacteria. The greatest inhibition zone was 11.59 mm at a concentration of 100 g/mL, while in the cytotoxic test exhibited that the LC50 was more than 1000 ppm, so it was considered into non-toxic category.

Abstract

Desa Bakau is located in Sambas Regency, West Kalimantan which has the potential for mangrove forests with an area of ± 305 Ha. Ecologically, mangrove forests have various roles, one of them is as a habitat for various types of aquatic biota, including gastropods. Several gastropods have important economic value for the community as food and medicine. The local community catches and consumes the mangrove gastropods. As a food ingredient, gastropods have a high nutritional content and essential macro minerals. Gastropods can be used as an alternative source of animal protein at an affordable price. This study aimed to determine the nutritional value of the gastropod Cassidula from the mangrove area of Desa Bakau, Sambas Regency, West Kalimantan. Quantitatively, nutrient content such as protein, carbohydrates, fat, moisture, and ash content were determined according to the AOAC (2005) standard method, whereas macro minerals content (Na, K, Mg, Ca, and P) was carried out according to the AOAC method (2016) using Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS). The result showed that Cassidula had a protein content (57.02%) with the highest value compared to other types of nutrients. In addition, Cassidula also contained an essential macro mineral, such as calcium (37.0006 mg/kg) with the highest value followed by sodium (21.7364 mg/kg), respectively. The results showed that Cassidula can be used as an alternative food ingredient for human.

Abstract

The coastal area of Kabung Island is an area of Karimunting Village, Bengkayang Regency, which has a population of around 300 families, whose main livelihood is fishing. Water conditions are very risky due to bad weather, such as strong waves, making it impossible to go to sea, causing new activities for people to plant gardens by utilizing makeshift land and plantation commodities along the hills on the island. Apart from coconuts and cloves, nutmeg is a plantation commodity that is widely available in this region. The training for the processing of syrup from the flesh of the nutmeg for the people of Kabung Island is to improve the skills and welfare of the people of Kabung Island who have previously carried out simple processing of nutmeg by drying the seeds and making candied nutmeg. The training is carried out by direct processing of nutmeg in front of the Kabung island community who are also participants in this activity. This activity was attended by 50 participants consisting of 15 men and 35 women. Based on the questionnaire before the activity started, it showed that 40% had already known and read about the processing of nutmeg syrup, while 30% of the participants had made simple syrup preparations from nutmeg pulp. Then the evaluation conducted after the activity showed that 80% of the participants were able to make good nutmeg syrup, including packaging and labeling of the resulting products.

Abstract

Desa Sungai Nibung, Kubu Raya Regency, has been designated as one of the conservation areas in West Kalimantan. The coastal area of this village has potential of natural resources with a high level of diversity, including bivalves. Local community catch and sell bivalves for consumption. It is due to their high nutritional content, so that they are used by the local community as food and a source of protein. Inventory of biota is the first step to manage biological resources and support the management plan for a conservation area in this village. The study aimed to determine the diversity of bivalves in the coast of Desa Sungai Nibung, West Kalimantan. The research was conducted in December 2022. Sample collection was done using an exploratory method. Bivalves were taken, then stored in the cooling box for further identification. The result showed three bivalve species, such as Polymesoda erosa, Anadara granosa, and A. antiquata.

Abstract

Masker peel off merupakan sediaan kosmetik perawatan kulit wajah yang berbentuk gel dan mempunyai keunggulan dalam penggunaan yaitu mudah dilepas atau dikelupaskan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mendapatkan aktivitas antioksidan dari masker peel off rumput laut Sargassum asal Pulau Lemukutan yang dikombinasikan dari bengkoang. Metode yang digunakan dalam aktivitas antioksidan dengan metode (2,2- difenil-1-pikrilhidrazil) DPPH. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa aktivitas antioksidan memiliki penghambatan pada basis masker peel off sebesar 47,05%, basis masker dan bengkoang 25%, ekstrak n-heksana 25,71% pada konsentrasi 500 ppm dan aktivitas antioksidan ekstrak metanol memiliki IC₅₀ 477,21 µg/mL dan ekstrak etil asetat memiliki IC₅₀ 291,53 µg/mL dengan kategori sangat lemah.

Abstract

Paloh, one of West Kalimantan's conservation areas, has a high biodiversity of marine resources, including seaweed. Seaweed has an important ecological role, such as increasing primary productivity, providing dissolved oxygen, as a food source, and as a habitat for several aquatic organisms. In addition, seaweed contains various bioactive compounds that have the potential to be used in various industrial fields. This research aimed to identify the variety of seaweed in the waters of Pantai Tanjung Api, Paloh District, Sambas Regency, West Kalimantan. Based on the abundance of seaweed, the sampling site was chosen. A quadratic transect measuring 10x10 m2 was used for the collection. Four seaweed genera were discovered, including Acetabularia, Ulva, Padina, and Sargassum. Ulvophyceae and Phaeophyceae had the same percentage contribution. The species abundance varied between 1.04-26.75 ind/m2, where Padina had the highest value. Paloh has a low level of seaweed diversity, high uniformity, and a low dominance index

Abstract

Macroalgae or known as seaweed is one of the potential resources and is responsible for primary productivity in marine waters. Macroalgae plays an important role in marine ecosystems, provides food, oxygen, and habitat for several types of marine biota. Moreover, macroalgae have been reported as renewable resources in marine environment and widely used in various fields. The biodiversity and abundance of macroalgae are strongly influenced by aquatic environmental factors. Lemukutan Island is the largest inhabited island located in Bengkayang Regency, West Kalimantan and has the potential natural resources, including macroalgae. This Island can become a center for producing macroalgae that can be used to meet food needs both locally and domestically. The main objective of this study were to determine the community structure of macroalgae and the condition of the environmental physico-chemical parameters. The sampling locations were carried out in-situ at three stations and the determination of the sampling site was done by purposive random sampling method, by selecting an area based on the presence of macroalgae. The sampling of macroalgae was carried out using a quadratic transect with size of 10x10 m2 and the water quality parameters were measured using the AZ 8603 of WQC instrument. The study found 6 genera of macroalgae, such as Caulerpa, Halimeda, Padina, Turbinaria, Sargassum, and Gracillaria. Among the identified macroalgae, Phaeophyceae have the highest per cent contribution (50%), and Padina had the highest abundance (29.84 ind/m2). Lemukutan Island waters had a moderate level of diversity, high macroalgae uniformity, and dominance index in the low category. The aquaatic environmental factors influenced the abundance of macroalgae in Lemukutan Island waters.
