Abstract

This research is entitled "Tradition of Maantaan Padi Jo Mangubang in Nagari Situmbuk, Salimpaung District, Tanah Regency, West Sumatra" This research aims to find out about the process of implementing maantaan padi jo mangubang in Nagari Situmbuk. And in this research also aims to describe the symbolic meanings contained in the tradition of maantaan padi jo mangubang. The theory used in this research is the symbolic interpretative theory of Clifford Geertz. The method used in this research is a qualitative method. The results of this research explain the background of the tradition of maantaan padi jo mangubang in Nagari Situmbuk, that the history of maantaan padi jo mangubang is divided into two activities, namely maantaan padi and mangubang. Maantaan padi began in the 1640s. Meanwhile, mangubang was carried out several months after the creation of maantaan padi, the person who first made the kubang of the bride's family named Mayang Sani. This tradition begins with several processions, namely determining the time of marriage, the bundo kanduang meeting, pre-wedding processes, the wedding time, maantaan padi, mangubang and manampuah. Behind this, this tradition turns out to have a general meaning, namely the meaning of family and kinship. As for other meanings, there are symbolic meanings such as the meaning of rice meaning the first livelihood, the meaning of sumpik minciang meaning the woman who is married is ready to be accommodated by the man's family. The meaning of Ceret means that marriage begins with pure intentions, the meaning of Mangubang means repairing a strained bond. The meaning of Kubang means that the man and woman are united in the bonds of the household. The meaning of sticky rice means prayers for a close-knit household and grated coconut means the sweet, salty and bland life after marriage. Finally, the meaning of the basin means being ready to accept the risks of good and bad after marriage.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by elevated blood glucose levels resulting from impaired insulin production or function. Conventional treatments often come with side effects and high costs, prompting the exploration of herbal-based alternatives. Centella asiatica L. (commonly known as pegagan) contains various bioactive compounds with potential antidiabetic properties. This study aimed to evaluate the antidiabetic activity of ethanol, ethyl acetate, and n-hexane fractions of Centella asiatica herb in male white mice (Mus musculus) induced with alloxan, and to determine the most effective fraction in lowering blood glucose levels. The research employed a completely randomized design (CRD) in an experimental setting. Male mice were randomly assigned to five groups: negative control (1% Na-CMC), positive control (glibenclamide), and three treatment groups receiving ethanol, ethyl acetate, or n-hexane fractions of Centella asiatica at a dose of 120 mg/kg body weight. Diabetes was induced using alloxan at a dose of 100 mg/kg body weight. Blood glucose levels were measured before and after treatment at specific time intervals. The results demonstrated that all fractions of Centella asiatica exhibited blood glucose-lowering activity in diabetic mice. Among the three, the ethanol fraction produced the most significant hypoglycemic effect. Phytochemical screening revealed that the ethanol fraction contained flavonoids, triterpenoids, and saponins, which are suspected to contribute to its antidiabetic activity. In conclusion, the ethanol fraction of Centella asiatica exhibits the highest potential as an antidiabetic agent compared to the ethyl acetate and n-hexane fractions.

Abstract

Rapid economic growth and urbanization in Southeast Asia have increased environmental pressures, particularly through rising carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions driven by fossil fuel–based activities. The Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) framework is commonly used to assess whether economic growth eventually leads to lower emissions after surpassing a certain income level. This model is particularly relevant for ASEAN countries—Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnam—that are undergoing industrial transition. This study examines the presence of the EKC in the ASEAN-5 from 1990 to 2021 and estimates the turning point for each country. Using unbalanced annual panel data, a quadratic regression model is applied through Pooled OLS, Fixed Effects, and Random Effects methods. Model selection follows Chow and Hausman tests, with robustness diagnostics including heteroskedasticity (Breusch-Pagan), residual normality (Jarque-Bera), and cross-sectional dependence (Pesaran CD and LM tests). Turning points are calculated when the GDP coefficient is positive and the squared GDP coefficient is negative and statistically significant, indicating an inverted-U relationship. Results confirm that CO₂ = f (GDP, GDP²) is a valid specification for the region, reflecting a general shift toward greener economies. However, only Malaysia and Thailand have passed their respective turning points; Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam remain below. These findings highlight the varying stages of environmental transition among ASEAN countries and underscore the urgent need for energy reform and policy interventions in nations that have not yet reached the emissions-reducing phase of economic development.

Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to analyze the effects of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and Project-Based Learning (PjBL) models, as well as students’ learning motivation, on mathematics learning outcomes among fifth-grade elementary students. The research was motivated by persistently low mathematics achievement at the primary level, often attributed to teacher-centered approaches and insufficient student motivation. A 2x2 factorial experimental design was employed, involving 54 students from SD Negeri Inpres Malompo, Papua, divided into two experimental groups: Class A using the PBL model and Class B using the PjBL model. Data were collected through a mathematics achievement test and a learning motivation questionnaire, both validated for reliability and content. Data analysis was conducted using Two-Way ANOVA. The results revealed that the instructional model did not have a significant effect on mathematics learning outcomes (p = 0.107), while learning motivation had a highly significant effect (p = 0.000). Moreover, there was no significant interaction between the instructional model and motivation level (p = 0.435). These findings suggest that learning outcomes are more strongly influenced by individual motivation rather than the choice of instructional model. The coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.545 indicates that 54.5% of the variance in learning outcomes can be explained by the combined effects of the instructional model and learning motivation. This study highlights the importance of strengthening students’ learning motivation as a central focus in improving mathematics instruction in elementary schools, alongside the contextual and adaptive use of innovative teaching models.  Keyword: Problem-Based Learning, Project-Based Learning, learning motivation, mathematics achievement, elementary education. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan Two-Way ANOVA. Kata Kunci: Problem-Based Learning, Project-Based Learning, motivasi belajar, hasil belajar matematika, sekolah dasar.
