Abstract

Stunting in early life, particularly in the first 1000 days has longterm consequences on children’s physical growth, cognitive performance, and emotional well-being. Adequate parental and community knowledge plays a critical role in enabling early recognition, prevention, and appropriate management of factors contributing to stunting. This study aims to investigate the impact of health education on community knowledge related to stunting. A cross-sectional design was applied involving 24 adult participants (≥ 18 years) from the general public in Teluk Sasah District, Bintan Island using total sampling. The educational intervention was delivered through pamphlet distribution, health talks, and discussions with experts focusing on stunting. Pre and post-test were conducted to assess their understanding about stunting. Data were analyzed using Statistical Product and Service Solution (SPSS) Software version 16.0, employing the Shapiro-wilk for normality and the Wilcoxon signed-rank test to compare scores before and after the interventions. This study demonstrated a significant difference between pre-test and posttest (80.83 ± 9.74 vs 90.83 ± 7.76, p=0.000). Furthermore, the minimum score of post-test and pre-test also improved markedly (60.00 vs 70.00, p=0.000). This study found that the implementation of health education, including pamphlet distribution, classical lectures, and case discussions, effectively enhanced participants’ knowledge about stunting.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of Civic Education in shaping the democratic character of youth through the perspective of the Deputy Governor of Banten, A. Dimyati Natakusumah, regarding marching activities as an effort to counter apathy. The declining levels of discipline, accuracy, solidarity, and nationalism among students highlight the urgent need for continuous character development. Using a qualitative approach through content analysis of the Deputy Governor’s statements, this study finds that marching activities contain core Civic Education values such as discipline, cooperation, responsibility, mutual assistance, and patriotism. These activities not only train physical coordination but also cultivate democratic character through social interaction, strengthened civic engagement, and the habituation of positive behavior. The findings emphasize that marching serves as an effective, simple, and applicable method for enhancing youth character while reducing apathy. This research contributes to the development of contextual character education models within school environments.

Abstract

Background: Streptococcus sanguinis is one of the most dominant bacteria in early colonization of plaque formation. Robusta coffee beans (Coffea canephora) was reported to have antibacterial properties because it contained compounds such as alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and steroids. Purpose: This study aimed to determine the antibacterial effect of Semendo coffee beans extract to inhibit the bacterial growth of S. sanguinis. Material and method: This study was an in vitro experimental laboratory. This study used Robusta coffee beans origins from South Sumatera called Semendo coffee beans. The treatment group used Semendo coffee beans extract with concentrations of 2.5%, 5%, 10%, 20%, and 40%. The positive control used 0,2% chlorhexidine gluconate and the negative control used sterile distilled water. The antibacterial potency test was used dilution method to MIC (Minimum Inhibitory Concentration) and MBC (Minimum Bactericidal Concentration) test, and disk diffusion method to inhibitory zone test. Result: The result showed that the MIC of Semendo coffee beans against S. sanguinis couldn't be determined because it was blocked by the color of the extract while MBC was 5%. The average diameter of the inhibition zone formed on 2.5% Semendo coffee beans extract was 12,0±0,4082 mm and bigger along with higher concentration. These results suggested that the extract of Semendo coffee had an antibacterial effect against the growth of S. sanguinis on 2,5%-40%.

Abstract

Social studies learning in elementary schools often faces obstacles because the material tends to be more complex and abstract, making it difficult for students to understand the abstract process of photosynthesis and the use of conventional learning methods that do not actively involve students. This also occurs in fifth- grade students who do not yet understand the overall concept of photosynthesis. This study aims to improve the understanding of fifth-grade students at SDN Sukaraja 2 of photosynthesis material through the use of interactive animated video- based learning media combined with simple experimental methods, particularly in the process of photosynthesis. The research method used was Classroom Action Research (CAR) with the Kemmis and McTaggart model, which was carried out in two cycles, each cycle covering the stages of planning, implementation of actions, observation, and reflection. The research subjects consisted of 29 fifth-grade students at SDN Sukaraja 2. Data collection techniques were carried out through learning outcome tests and observation of student activities during the learning process. Data were collected through learning outcome tests, observation of student activities during the learning process, and documentation. The results showed an increase from cycle I to cycle II of 27.5%. This had a positive effect on student understanding in each cycle, as indicated by increased learning outcomes and student activity in participating in learning. In cycle II, most students achieved scores above the Minimum Passing Grade (MPG) of 75. Thus, the use of interactive animated videos and simple experiments proved to be effective in improving students' understanding of photosynthesis, especially the process of photosynthesis, and can be used as an alternative learning medium to improve and refine the learning process in elementary schools.
