Abstract

The issue of cleanliness around mosques, often filled with trash and waste, poses challenges for the youth, along with the lack of economic innovation from mosque management, remains a significant obstacle in many communities. However, the management of Masjid al-Muttaqiin in Colomadu, Karanganyar, with the support of a youth organization called RISTAQ (Remaja Islam Masjid Al-Muttaqin), has developed two innovative social entrepreneurship programs: Waste Donation and the Affordable Vegetable Market. Through this initiative, the mosque not only serves as a place of worship but also plays an active role in maintaining environmental cleanliness. Another innovative program is the “Amal Bahagia” affordable vegetable market, held every Sunday morning alongside religious study sessions. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected through field observations and in-depth interviews with informants. Findings indicate that the Waste Donation program and the affordable vegetable market not only address environmental and economic issues but also empower the mosque's youth as active agents of change.

Abstract

The ongoing conflict between the central Thai government and the predominantly Muslim provinces of Southern Thailand, particularly Yala, Pattani, and Narathiwat, has significantly impacted various sectors, including education. The ethnic and religious divisions inherent in this conflict have posed challenges to implementing educational policies. This study explores how local elite politics influence the integration of Islamic education and the national curriculum in these conflict-prone areas. A qualitative case study approach was employed, utilizing semi-structured interviews, observations, and document analysis to gather data from key stakeholders, including school leaders, policymakers, and educators. The findings reveal that despite efforts to incorporate religious and secular curricula, local educational systems face persistent challenges in maintaining balance amidst the broader socio-political tensions. This study also highlights the role of local elite politics in shaping educational policies, particularly in the context of religious and cultural identity. It underscores the need for more flexible and culturally inclusive educational policies that not only meet national standards but also respect the unique cultural and religious needs of the Muslim community in Southern Thailand. The novelty of this research lies in its focus on the intersection of local politics, education, and conflict in a qualitative context, offering new insights into how education can be leveraged as a tool for peacebuilding and social cohesion in conflict-affected regions.

Abstract

This article aims to explain the role of masohi in maintaining relations between the Christian and Muslim communities in the Christian and Islamic villages of Siri Sori, Central Maluku, that witnessed the communal religious conflict in the period of 1999-2004. Post-conflict social relation has the potential for establishing harmony, which is particularly important given the conflict’s tragic impact and complex social implications. This can be achieved through masohi, which embodies local wisdom. Masohi can contribute to peace and conflict resolution between the two communities. The research question in this study is whether masohi can adequately serve as a solution in that context. This research uses a qualitative approach using observation, literature study, and interviews with Christian and Muslim figures from the two communities who have practiced masohi in the Christian and Islamic villages of Siri Sori. All the data about masohi is collected, sorted, analyzed, and reconstructed using culturally-based historical awareness perspective. The results of this study show that: (1) masohi manifests in interfaith cooperation between the two communities in their history culture; (2) masohi has a constructive humanitarian characteristic; and (3) masohi can be preserved to ensure the welfare of the people and to preserve peace sustainably.

Abstract

Abstract

In machine learning, predicting the mechanical properties of stainless steel, such as Yield Strength (YS), Ultimate Tensile Strength (UTS), and Elongation (EL), requires many input variables, such as chemical composition, type of heat treatment, heating duration, and cooling method. However, the complexity and number of these variables can increase processing time and reduce model accuracy. This study aims to explore the impact of selecting the most influential input variables to improve prediction accuracy. We compared two feature selection techniques: Recursive Feature Elimination (RFE), which systematically removes less important features, and Information Gain (IG), which measures the contribution of each variable to the target prediction. Both techniques were implemented using the random forest algorithm, chosen for its robustness in handling large datasets and its ability to capture complex interactions between variables. Parameter optimization was performed using a grid search. The analysis showed that the RFE-based model outperformed both the IG-based model and the model without feature selection. In predicting YS, RFE identified 13 out of 21 influential variables, achieving a Mean Absolute Error (MAE) of 9.91, Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of 14.20, and R-squared value of 0.89. For UTS, RFE identified 8 out of 21 variables, with an MAE of 12.89, RMSE of 16.97, and R-squared of 0.97. In predicting EL, RFE identified 14 out of 21 variables, with an MAE of 3.82, RMSE of 6.10, and an R-squared value of 0.85. The high R-squared values (0.85) across all properties indicate the model’s strong predictive capabilities, making it suitable for practical applications in predicting the mechanical properties of stainless steel.

Abstract

Ti-6Al-4V Extra Low Interstitial (ELI) is one of the most widely used titanium alloys for orthopedic implants. However, its drawback is that titanium has less bioactive properties. Therefore, Ti-6Al-4V ELI needs to be coated with hydroxyapatite (HA) to achieve good osseointegration in the human body. Nevertheless, several studies have shown that there are still cracks found on the HA surface layer. This research aims to focus on biomedical applications, specifically to obtain strong adhesion of the implant material layer, which is expected to improve osseointegration and reduce inflammation effects from implantation. The research method is experimental (testing), using both qualitative and quantitative methods. The coating method used is the Dip Coating method. Research variables include variations in the weight percentage (wt%) of PVA+ZrO2, and HA suspension, as well as variations in sintering temperatures, 800, 900 dan 9500C. The study results showed that the addition of Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) and Zirconium Oxide (ZrO2) in the suspension can reduce cracks on the test specimen layer. Optimal results were obtained with the addition of 20% PVA and ZrO2 weight at a sintering temperature of 900°C. The implant material surface was uniformly coated, and no cracks were found.
