Abstract

Background: Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) is the cause of COVID-19, a respiratory disease. One of the treatments administered to COVID-19 patients is antibiotics to prevent the occurrence of secondary infections. However, the budget allocation for antibiotic use issued by health facilities constitutes a considerable amount due to the significantly high demand, particularly among COVID-19 patients. This situation calls for pharmacoeconomic studies, such as cost-minimization analysis, for a better understanding and management of the financial implications. Objective: This study aimed to assess the economic value of antibiotics in a hospital within Tangerang District in 2021.Method: The method used in this study was non-experimental observation through the retrospective analysis of secondary data, consisting of patient costs and demographic information. The sample was selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Furthermore, the collected data were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test to determine a significant difference between the total cost in each therapy group. Results: In this study, 30 patients’ data met the inclusion and exclusion criteria consisting of 4 groups: ceftriaxone (n = 10), cefixime (n = 10), ceftazidime (n = 7), and cefadroxil (n = 3). Based on the calculation of cost-minimization analysis, the total average cost per patient for the ceftriaxone, cefixime, ceftazidime, and cefadroxil groups was 19,853,503 IDR, 13,330,545 IDR, 38,666,056 IDR, and 21,333,330 IDR, respectively. Conclusion: The results showed that the cefixime group has the most economical value. Keywords: Antibiotics, cost-minimization analysis, COVID-19, hospital

Abstract

Iron deficiency anemiaa type of anemia that occurs due to the body lacking iron which results in a decrease in the number of red blood cells or hemoglobin in the blood which is insufficient for the body's physiological needs. In Indonesia, the prevalence of iron deficiency anemia is greatest in non-pregnant adult women, around 25-48% and pregnant women around 46-92%. According to several studies, Moringa leaves (Moringa oliefera) are a source of iron. Moringa leaves (moringa oliefera) are known to have various nutritional contents. one of which is iron, protein, vitamin A, Vitamin C, potassium and calcium. Moringa leaves are a plant that has quite a high iron content. The iron content in the body can help form hemoglobin and bind oxygen. This research aims to determine the potential of Moringa leaves as an anti-anemia. The reference search was carried out in the process of reviewing this article using the internet network via Pubmed, Sciencedirect and Google Scholar. National and international journals were obtained as primary data sources. From the data collected, Moringa leaves have the potential to increase hemoglobin levels in experimental white mice. The high amount of iron contained in Moringa leaves (Moringa oleifera) affects the increase in hemoglobin in the blood. This can be used as a reference for the use of Moringa leaves as an anti-anemia, both for prevention and treatment.

Abstract

Kecombrang stem (Etlingera elatior) contains flavonoid compounds and can be used as a medicine, an antibacterial, and an antioxidant. Several factors influence the extraction compounds in plants, one of which is the type of solvent. This study aimed to determine the effect of different solvents on the total flavonoid content in kecombrang stems. Kecombrang stems were extracted using methanol, 70% ethanol, and 96% ethanol. Qualitative flavonoid analysis was carried out using color reagents and thin-layer chromatography (TLC), and quantitative analysis was carried out using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The results of the qualitative flavonoid test showed that all kecombrang stem extracts were positive for flavonoids, indicated by a color change to yellow-orange, and the TLC results showed that all extracts were positive for flavonoids, indicated by light blue fluorescence under UV light 366 nm, with an Rf value range of 0.62-0.66. The results of determining total flavonoid levels in methanol extract were 12.14 mgQE/g, 70% ethanol was 13.55 mgQE/g, and 96% ethanol was 21.77 mgQE/g. One-way ANOVA statistical analysis showed that differences in solvent types significantly affected the total flavonoid levels of kecombrang stems, with a p value <0.05. The highest flavonoid levels in kecombrang stems were found in 96% ethanol extract.

Abstract

Adolescent girls with anemia face increased risks during pregnancy and childbirth and are more likely to give birth to stunted children, perpetuating the cycle of intergenerational malnutrition. This community service program involved 150 adolescent girls divided into two groups: 75 in the control group and 75 in the intervention group. Only the intervention group received education using the CBIA (Cara Belajar Insan Aktif) method. Evaluation included hemoglobin level measurements, knowledge assessments on anemia and stunting, and adherence to iron tablet (TTD) consumption. The intervention group showed significant improvements in knowledge, Hb levels, and compliance compared to the control group. Educational interventions using the CBIA method, supported by health worker collaboration, proved effective in improving awareness and TTD adherence among adolescent girls. This approach is promising as a preventive strategy for anemia and stunting

Abstract

Elderly individuals often suffer from multiple chronic conditions thatrequire the prescription of various medications. This can increase therisk of being prescribed Potentially Inappropriate Medications (PIMs).The research objective was to evaluate the effectiveness of Beers 2019and STOPP version 2 2016 criteria in detecting PIMs and theircorrelation with adverse drug events among geriatric patients whowere admitted to the Hospital. The researchers conducted aretrospective analysis of the 100 patients' medical records admitted tothe hospital in 2022. Beers 2019 criteria were more effective inidentifying PIMs than STOPP version 2 2016 criteria. Using Beers 2019criteria, 31 cases of PIMs were identified among the 100 patients whomet the inclusion criteria, while only 25 cases were identified usingSTOPP version 2 2016 criteria. Alprazolam was the most frequentlyprescribed medication (19.54%) in the first criteria of Beers 2019,followed by ranitidine in category two and spironolactone in category5, each named for seven cases (22.58%). The most commonly foundPIMs, according to STOPP version 2 2016 criteria, were domperidone(40.00%) and spironolactone (28.00%). The study recommends thatclinicians and pharmacists work together to develop critical supportivedata to enhance the identification of potentially inappropriatemedications.

Abstract

Wound healing is a complex biological process involving inflammation, proliferation, and tissue remodeling. Delayed healing increases the risk of infection and other complications. Ambon banana stem (Musa acuminata) contains flavonoids, polyphenols, and tannins that support tissue regeneration, while apigenin exhibits anti-inflammatory and pro-regenerative activities. The combination of these two agents is expected to enhance wound repair. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a gel containing Ambon banana stem powder and apigenin in promoting wound healing in Sprague Dawley rats. A linear incision wound (1.5 cm × 2 mm) was created on the dorsal skin of anesthetized rats. Twenty-four male Sprague Dawley rats were divided into six groups (n = 4): untreated control (F0), negative control (gel base), positive control (Bioplacenton®), and three test formulations (F1: 5% banana stem + 10% apigenin; F2: 7.5% + 7.5%; F3: 10% + 5%). Wound length was measured daily for eight days using a digital caliper, and the percentage of wound closure was calculated. All combination gels significantly accelerated wound contraction compared with the negative control (p < 0.001). Formula F3 demonstrated the fastest healing, achieving complete closure on day 5 (1.50 ± 0.00 cm to 0.00 ± 0.00 cm), whereas the positive control reached 87.8 ± 0.15% closure by day 8. No significant differences were observed among the three test formulations. The accelerated healing is attributed to the synergistic effects of banana stem phytochemicals and apigenin. Overall, the combination gel effectively promotes wound healing and shows potential as a natural-based topical therapeutic.
