Abstract

This article discusses about the dynamic of Junior High School students? conceptual understanding on energy due to an intervention. The key indicators to see these dynamic of conceptual understanding, i.e. by comparing the normalized gain (N-gain) score with the normalized loss (L) score. This study employed a design experiment and conducted at SMPN 1 Tanah Grogot, Paser Regency, East Kalimantan in the First Semester Academic Year 2015/2016. Subject research were 30 students from the 7th grade. The data were obtained from results of students? conceptual understanding tests about energy (pretest and posttest). The results of this study showed that: (1) students who got low N-gain score tend to have a loss; and generally N-gain > L, that mean the intervention could promote students to understand substantive concepts on energy topics. Based on these results despite some limitation, could be concluded that students? conceptual understanding and students? conception change influenced by the intervention and reinforced the conceptual change theory especially on the knowledge-as-elements perspectives. Artikel ini membahas mengenai dinamika pemahaman konsep siswa SMP pada materi energi akibat adanya intervensi. Indikator kunci untuk melihat dinamika pemahaman konsep tersebut, yaitu dengan membandingkan score normalized gain (N-gain) dengan score normalized loss (L). Studi ini menggunakan design experiment dan dilakukan di SMPN 1 Tanah Grogot, Kab. Paser, Kalimantan Timur pada Semester Ganjil Tahun Pembelajaran 2015/2016. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 30 orang siswa kelas VII. Data diperoleh dari hasil tes pemahaman konsep siswa tentang energi (pretest dan posttest). Hasil studi menunjukkan bahwa: (1) siswa yang memperoleh skor N-gain rendah akan cenderung mengalami loss; dan (2) secara umum N-gain > L, yang berarti intervensi dapat mengenalkan siswa untuk memahami konsep-konsep substantif pada topik energi. Berdasarkan hasil-hasil tersebut meskipun terdapat beberapa limitasi, dapat disimpulkan bahwa pemahaman konsep dan perubahan konsepsi siswa dipengaruhi oleh intervensi serta menguatkan teori perubahan konsep khususnya pada perspektif pengetahuan seperti elemen.

Abstract

The critical component in science learning today is the students’ ability to proficiency the scientific inquiry skills. Inquiry skills are the focus in scientific practice today, especially on proposing action and interpreting results. For this purpose, three experimental worksheets on energy topic were designed and developed. Thirty students enrolled in 11th grade in a public senior high school in the Bulungan Regency, North Kalimantan Province participated in this study. This study used qualitative research methods to collect data in accordance with the principles of classroom natural setting. Participants are involved in teaching and learning process activities that are taught by physics teachers in the schools. The results of the students’ written responses were obtained from the experimental worksheet, as well as field note data during observations during the teaching-learning process. The results of the study show that in the category of proposing action and interpreting results the students’ abilities are still low. Proficiency in content knowledge according to substantive concepts has a strong effect on students’ scientific inquiry skills. The implication of this study is that it emphasizes the formation of scientific culture classrooms to be able to promote and bring science closer to the students.

Abstract

This research aims to examine undergraduate students’ argumentation skills during and after the learning process in the classroom setting and their responses toward the implementation of socioscientific issues (SSI) through debate in the learning process. This research involved 32 undergraduate students and implemented design-based research with pretest and posttest in a natural classroom setting using three topics of SSI debate that widely discussed in Indonesia: Nuclear Powerplant (Topic 1), Food Preservation (Topic 2), and Genetically Modified Organism (Topic 3). Data was collected using observation sheets, tests, and questionnaires. Observation is to measure argumentation ability when applying the debate method in class settings, the test measures the improvement of argumentation skills, and questionnaires measure students’ responses to the application of the debate method. In this study, argumentation scores were obtained from six indicators and divided by a maximum score of 24 times 100. Normalized gain (N-gain) was calculated to determine the effectiveness of the intervention in the classroom. T-test was also conducted to test the significance of the differences in the pretest and posttest results on argumentation skills.  The results obtained in this study are: the argumentation skills score during the learning process for six groups were 95, 80.6, 90.3, 95, 83.3, and 77.5; the mean score of pretest and posttest were 52.22 ± 6.62 and 85.78 ± 4.72. The consistency of opinions shows the change from “agree” to “disagree” for Topics 1 and 3. The undergraduate students agree and consistently agree toward Topic 2. The paired t-test result also shows that the intervention statistically has a significant difference between the two means, indicating that the undergraduate students’ argumentation skills are better than before the intervention. Otherwise, most of the undergraduate students respond positively toward the implementation of the debate related to SSI. Despite some limitations, the debate on SSI can improve argumentation skills in classroom settings, especially in science education majors.

Abstract

Abstrak: Penerapan pembelajaran daring dan tatap-muka terbatas di sekolah menimbulkan masalah, khususnya dengan tuntutan kurikulum dan pengurangan waktu belajar di sekolah akibat pandemi. Para guru IPA belum akrab dengan media blended learning yang mendukung pembelajaran sains dengan pendekatan saintifik dan belum melaksanakan pembelajaran daring yang efektif. Pelatihan ini bertujuan untuk melatihkan para guru IPA dalam merancang, melaksanakan, dan mengevaluasi proses pembelajaran dengan model blended learning secara praktis dan efisien. Metode yang digunakan adalah pelatihan dalam studi evaluasi kelompok tunggal secara campuran. Mitra kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah MKKS SMP Negeri dan Swasta se-Kabupaten Gresik, Jawa Timur. Sasaran pelatihan adalah 42 guru pengampu IPA. Pelatihan ini berhasil meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan para guru IPA dalam membuat media blended learning dengan pendekatan saintifik sebesar 50%. Perubahan pengetahuan dan keterampilan ini tampak dari produk koleksi RPP interaktif serta Sumber Belajar atau Tugas Proyek digital dengan memperhatikan konten, desain, serta aspek teknis dan fungsionalitas.Abstract: The limited implementation of online and face-to-face learning in schools creates problems, especially with the demands of curriculum and reduced learning time in schools. Science teachers are not familiar with blended learning media and have not implemented online learning effectively. This community service activity aimed to facilitate the science teachers in designing, implementing, and evaluating the learning process with the blended learning model that met practical and efficient criteria. The method used is training in a single-group evaluation study that arranged in a blended program. The partner of this community service activity was the Principal Association (MKKS) for Public and Private Junior High Schools in the Gresik Regency, East Java. The target of this program were 42 science teachers. This training succeeded to improve the knowledge and skills of science teachers in making blended learning media by 50%. This change in knowledge and skills reflected from the collection of digital interactive Lesson Plans and Learning Resources or Project Assignments that met the content,

Abstract

Dalam beberapa tahun terakhir, pengembangan profesionalitas guru IPA mendapat perhatian yang besar, tetapi pengembangan profesionalitas mahasiswa calon guru IPA ditinjau dari kemampuan proses inkuirinya masih belum banyak yang menelitinya. Penelitian ini ditujukan untuk mengeksplorasi kemampuan proses inkuri mahasiswa calon guru IPA berdasarkan gender dan lama studi mahasiswa. Sebanyak 302 mahasiswa calon guru IPA turut berpartisipasi dalam riset ini. Mahasiswa tersebut mulai dari angkatan tahun I hingga tahun IV di salah satu Lembaga Pendidikan Tenaga Kependidikan (LPTK) di Jawa Timur. Data yang dikumpulkan dalam riset ini bersumber dari hasil tes kemampuan proses inkuiri yang sebelumnya telah disusun dan ditelaah oleh para ahli dengan metode screening. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan kencenderungan mahasiswa calon guru IPA laki-laki cenderung lebih unggul dalam membuat prediksi, penerapan metode statistik, dan membuat kesimpulan, sedangkan mahasiswa calon guru IPA perempuan cenderung unggul dalam identifikasi/merumuskan masalah dan mendesain eksperimen. Selain itu, hanya indikator kemampuan menerapkan metode statistik yang menunjukkan pola linier dengan lama masa studi mahasiswa calon guru IPA.

Abstract

Potassium is a nutrient that plays a role in maintaining the function of the muscles and nerves that control the heart and is needed for body stability. The potassium content in the body can be obtained from foods such as bananas. The development of instruments and methods that are developed to obtain a more accurate measurement of potassium concentration requires an instrument that has high linearity and sensitivity. The instrument is in the form of an optical sensor system equipped with the use of optical fibers to guide the waveform to maintain its intensity stability. In this study, an experimental method was conducted with a sample of a standard solution with potassium as the solute and pure water as the solvent. Then continue to measurements on samples of banana milk and green banana fruit extracts. The results of the analysis of the measurement data using an optical sensor with a concave mirror reflection plane obtained a sensitivity of 0.36 mV/ppm and a linearity of 82.56%. In the plane of the flat mirror reflection, obtained an optical sensor with a plane mirror reflection plane shows a sensitivity of 0.12 mV/ppm and a linearity of 97.6%. The highest and most accurate linearity value is found in the plane mirror plane results. The next stage is the result of the maximum output voltage read on the optical detector through an optical sensor with a sample of extracts of milk banana and green banana. The results of data analysis on the linear equation with the highest linearity obtained the potassium content in milk bananas of 391.54 ppm and the green banana extract solution obtained 307.91 ppm, so it can be concluded that the potassium content in milk bananas is higher than green bananas with a linearity of more than 97%.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the competence of Earth and space knowledge of prospective science teacher students. Learning is carried out with the perspective of Field-Project Based Learning, students are asked to make direct observations of the components of the lithosphere, hydrosphere, and atmosphere in their living environment. Competencies from observations made by students include the ability to determine objects, knowledge of objects, and understanding of objects in their environment. The results of observations carried out are reported in the form of a written report supported by personal documentation in the form of photos of objects (lithosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere), explanations of the selected objects based on reality connected with references that have been obtained. The results of the study indicate that the ability to determine objects, understanding and knowledge of students is excellent so that learning Earth and Space Sciences is in accordance with Field-Project Based Learning

Abstract

One of the many digital technologies to actualize the digital learning environment is to provide e-modules based on collaboration in questioning, analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating (CinQASE) learning model. The main purpose of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of the CinQASE e-module to improve students' learning outcomes in 10th grade in several Senior High Schools in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi Province. This study implemented design-based research with a three-group pretest-posttest design. 85 students in the 10th grade participated in this study. The research subjects consist of three classes. Each class will use the CinQASE e-modules with different concepts. These concepts were Work and Energy, Momentum and Impulse, and Circular Motion. The differences in learning outcomes will be tested and evaluated based on the t-test. The results of the data analysis showed the normalized gain in the medium category, and the differences in learning outcomes showed a significance level (0.000) < 0.05 for all classes. Consistently implementing the CinQASE e-module can improve physics learning outcomes for all class groups with Sig. (0.161) > 5%. Hence, the CinQASE e-module had the potential to be used in physics classrooms and improve senior high school students’ learning outcomes

Abstract

Pandemi masih menjadi salah satu isu utama dalam bidang pendidikan sejak kemunculannya di penghujung tahun 2019. Pensa E-Jurnal: Pendidikan Sains pada edisi kali ini juga masih fokus pada isu proses belajar-mengajar selama pandemi. Volume 10 Nomor 1 Januari 2022 ini terdiri atas 25 artikel. Berbagai upaya untuk mengoptimalkan proses pembelajaran dibahas secara lengkap dalam 25 artikel tersebut. Berbagai isu utama dalam pengembangan kompetensi siswa seperti keterampilan berpikir kritis, argumentasi, keterampilan berpikir kreatif, peta pikiran, keterampilan proses sains, dan keterampilan berpikir tingkat tinggi dalam proses pembelajaran daring dan hibrid menjadi kajian utama dalam terbitan kali ini.

Abstract

This study aimed to improve students’ learning outcomes on heat and its transmission using comics problem-based learning model as intervention program. This study used one group pretest-posttest design in the classroom natural setting. This study involved thirty-two students from 7th grade in one of Public Junior High School in the Sidoarjo Regency, East Java. Data were collected by using learning implementation observation forms, written test sheets, and students’ response questionnaire form. Based on the results of this intervention, we obtained a percentage of the lesson plans implementation 94.12% at the first meeting and 93.38% at the second meeting with very good category. The written test used pretest and posttest to measure the improvement in learning outcomes which got high normalized gain. The students’ responses toward the intervention categorized as strong and positive. The result of this study shows that the implication of the comics problem-based learning model is effective to improve the students’ learning outcomes, especially on heat and its transmission.
