Abstract

Purpose – The limited time allocated for Arabic language instruction within the Ministry of Religious Affairs curriculum encouraged Diniyyah Puteri Padang Panjang to implement curriculum integration to enhance students’ Arabic proficiency. This study aims to explain the implementation of the integration between the 2019 Ministerial Decree Curriculum (KMA) and the Diniyyah Arabic Center (DAC) Curriculum. Design/methods/approach – This study employs a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews with four Arabic teachers, the principal, and the head of DAC, as well as documentation techniques. Data analysis was conducted through data collection, condensation, presentation, and conclusion drawing. Findings – The findings reveal that the curriculum integration at Diniyyah Puteri adopts a Nested Curriculum model characterized by: (1) Integrated learning objectives, including Arabic language skills and linguistic elements; (2) Learning materials that include both the official Ministry textbooks and supplementary resources such as Arabic camp programs, vocabulary enhancement, and muhadatsah mastery; (3) Time allocation combining two hours of formal instruction with non-formal learning within school and dormitory settings; (4) Learning activities that span classroom, dormitory, and school environment practices. The integration model contributes significantly to improved speaking and reading skills, as evidenced by students' increased interaction with native speakers and their readiness for further studies in the Middle East. Research implications – Despite these advancements, the integration model faces challenges related to the lack of a structured instructional system, indicating the need for systematic development in curriculum design and implementation frameworks.

This research endeavors to analyze the implementation of Didikan Subuh activities, along with the supporting and inhibiting factors. Employing a qualitative research design, the study involved observation of the Didikan Subuh program across four locations, interviews with teachers, and documentation review, including the curriculum of Didikan Subuh. Data analysis was conducted based on Miles and Huberman's theory. The research revealed several key findings: firstly, the implementation of Didikan Subuh in Padang city varies across locations in terms of purpose, activity materials, and evaluation methods. Secondly, supporting factors include an adequate number of certified teachers, a relatively large student population, and sufficient infrastructure availability. However, inhibiting factors such as adverse weather conditions, conflicting events, and lack of discipline among guidance teachers pose challenges. Additionally, there is a shortage of creative and responsible guidance teachers, along with insufficient materials for Didikan Subuh activities. The study underscores that despite its challenges, the implementation of Didikan Subuh has the potential to strengthen character education among students.

Abstract

Arabic writing skills in higher education are a forum for increasing student creativity. Through the media of posters and descriptions of cultural texts, students can develop their imagination in written form. However, there is a need for a TPACK (Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge) learning model as a systematic flow in implementing learning Arabic writing skills. On that basis, this research aims to analyze TPACK-based learning practices through multicultural texts with poster media. This research used a mixed-method design with research subjects of 122 fifth-semester Arabic Language Education study program students at UIN Imam Bonjol Padang—data collection techniques through tests, observation, interviews, and documentation with a mixed-method based analysis. The research results reveal that learning writing skills using multicultural texts and poster media can improve students' ability to write Arabic, which is characterized by the diversity of phrases, sentences, and paragraphs through descriptions of the culture found in Indonesia. This research recommends further research to analyze the forms of phrases that develop among students.
