Abstract

Encrypted network communications reduce the effectiveness of payload based traffic identification and complicate the translation of traffic analysis into network access control decisions. This study evaluates a payload independent workflow that connects flow based multiclass classification with administrator triggered, time limited firewall enforcement. The experiment used the public ISCXVPN2016 benchmark. After removing 18,719 duplicate records, 40,987 unique flows remained; all 23 available numerical flow features were retained without feature selection or normalization. A Random Forest classifier with 300 trees was selected using five-fold cross-validated grid search on a stratified 80% training partition and evaluated on an independent 8,198 sample test set covering 14 VPN and non-VPN traffic classes. The model achieved 88.01% accuracy, 88.00% weighted precision, 88.01% weighted recall, and 87.97% weighted F1-score. It exceeded the strongest reproduced baseline, K-Nearest Neighbors, by 16.09 percentage points in accuracy and 16.29 percentage points in weighted F1-score. Supplemental five-fold evaluation produced a mean accuracy of 88.05% with a 0.36 percentage point standard deviation. The trained classifier was integrated with a web application in which administrators review predicted flows and initiate temporary MikroTik RouterOS rules. All 30 temporary blocking entries observed in the evaluation database reached the Unblocked state with recorded timestamps, demonstrating rule lifecycle traceability at the database level. The findings show that Random Forest can provide competitive flow based classification while supporting an auditable, human controlled access control workflow; however, device level reliability and cross dataset generalizability require further validation.

Abstract

Abstract

The teaching of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) in undergraduate informatics programs often remains procedural in nature and provides limited opportunities for developing computational thinking and real-world problem-solving skills. This condition contributes to a mismatch between graduates’ competencies and industry demands in the era of Industrial Revolution 5.0. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a Case-Based Object-Oriented Programming approach integrated with Computational Thinking Skills (CTS) in improving students’ learning outcomes and problem-solving abilities. Employing a quasi-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design, the study involved 20 fifth-semester Informatics Engineering students enrolled in an Object-Oriented Programming course at a private university in Indonesia, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a written CTS test, a performance rubric for real-world case projects, and scores from the Midterm and Final Examinations. Data analysis included the Shapiro–Wilk normality test, Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test to compare pretest and posttest scores, and Spearman’s Rho correlation to examine relationships among variables. The findings indicate a significant improvement in OOP learning outcomes between the midterm and final examinations, alongside a very strong correlation between CTS components and learning performance, with abstraction and decomposition contributing the most. The study concludes that integrating CTS within case-based OOP instruction is effective in enhancing students’ computational thinking and academic achievement. The results highlight the need for instructors to adopt case-based pedagogical approaches and CTS-oriented assessment instruments to better prepare students for the challenges of Industry 5.0.

Abstract

Programming ability depends not only on syntax mastery but also on how students formulate problems and sustain effort when code fails. This study examined the contributions of computational thinking skills and learning motivation to high school students’ C programming ability and identified the genuinely dominant predictor. A quantitative ex post facto correlational design involved 138 eleventh-grade students from SMA Negeri 1 Kubung, proportionally stratified and randomly selected from a population of 203. Computational thinking was measured using 13 objective items, motivation using 22 Likert statements, and programming ability using 18 objective items; reliability coefficients were 0.884, 0.852, and 0.897, respectively. Computational thinking showed a very strong correlation with programming ability (r = 0.910, p < 0.001, R² = 0.829), whereas learning motivation was not significantly related (r = -0.107, p = 0.210). The simultaneous model was significant, F(2,135) = 331.81, p < 0.001, with R² = 0.831; however, adding motivation increased explained variance by only 0.2% (ΔR² = 0.002), and its coefficient remained nonsignificant (β = -0.044, p = 0.212). The study’s novelty is evidence that the significant joint model was driven almost entirely by computational thinking rather than motivation. C programming instruction should therefore prioritize decomposition, pattern recognition, abstraction, algorithm design, tracing, and debugging while avoiding causal interpretations from correlational data.

Abstract

The advancement of information technology has encouraged the digital transformation of various social activities, including the management of used goods donations. However, the donation process is still commonly carried out manually, resulting in difficulties in inventory management, recipient verification, donation distribution, and information transparency. This study aims to develop a web-based used goods donation information system using the Laravel Framework. The system was developed using the Prototype method, which consists of the stages of listening to customer needs, building or revising prototypes, and customer evaluation. The system was implemented using PHP, Laravel Framework, MySQL, Bootstrap, and Visual Studio Code. The developed application involves three main actors, namely administrators, donors, and recipients. The system provides features including donation management, goods categorization, recipient verification, inventory management, donation request management, donor reward points, and profile management. Functional testing indicates that all system features operate according to user requirements. The proposed system is expected to improve the efficiency, transparency, and effectiveness of managing used goods donations while facilitating communication between donors, recipients, and administrators.
