Abstract

Pacific white shrimp (Penaeus vannamei) is one of Indonesia's fishery commodities with high economic value in the domestic and foreign markets. They are applying appropriate technology through small-scale shrimp farming aimed to transfer technology in partner villages from traditional to intensive systems. This program was an effort to improve the welfare of the fishery community in Desa Pengambengan, Jembrana, Bali. This program was carried out in May‒July 2022, and it involved the Mina Jaya Fish Cultivator Group as the target community. The activity program was carried out through several stages, including audience activity, counseling, technical assistance, and monitoring and evaluation. The activity succeeded in increasing the knowledge and skills of the target community regarding vaname shrimp cultivation in detail. Technical assistance for cultivation activities has increased community understanding of small-scale intensive shrimp cultivation, minimizing errors and increasing program success. Monitoring and evaluation are carried out to determine the sustainability of activities in the target community. This community service activity has succeeded in increasing the productivity of Pacific white shrimp cultivation and technology transfer from the traditional system to a small-scale intensive system.

Abstract

Cultural communication plays an important role in maintaining and preserving the values of traditional marine education. In this context, cultural communication serves as a bridge to maintain traditional values while adapting them to the dynamics of the times in the era of modern life, especially the Mandar sailors on Kerayaan Island who have long been known for their maritime traditions inherent in their daily lives. This study aims to analyze the impact of modernization on the traditional practices and maritime cultural identity of the Mandar community. In addition, this study also presents the fact that not only the Bugis tribe is known as reliable sailors in the region, but the Mandar tribe also has a long history as accomplished sailors. The method used in the research uses a qualitative approach with the type of ethnographic research. The data was collected through direct observation in the field and in-depth interviews with local communities. Social change analysis is used as a theoretical framework to understand the maritime cultural transformation that occurs. This research shows that the entry of modern technology has slowly but surely changed the way of life of the Mandar seafaring community. Various cultural symbols that exist today are more widely used for economic purposes only, no longer as a cultural identity that is upheld. This study provides a real picture of how this change at least gives hope, that there will be no total death of traditional sized, there will always be adjustment, imaging and re-creation of new traditional authorities. The ability to survive this tradition is at least quite justified because the emergence of tradition always presupposes the presence of a 'regime of representatives' who has the authority to interpret the symbols and sacred texts of tradition for the purpose of legitimacy of power through cultural communication. Abstract

General elections are the main instrument of democracy as a manifestation of people's sovereignty and the legitimacy of power. However, the practice of democracy in Indonesia still faces serious challenges such as money politics, low voter participation, socio-political polarization, and weak integrity of election organizers. This study uses a normative approach with descriptive qualitative analysis to examine the effectiveness of elections in realizing substantial democracy according to constitutional principles. The results of the analysis show that these problems are not only technical, but also structural and cultural, reflecting the inequality between procedural and substantive democracy. Elections have not been fully able to become a political mechanism that produces representative and socially just government. This study also enriches the discourse on constitutional democracy by emphasizing the importance of recontextualizing the principle of rule of law in the electoral system. Meanwhile, in terms of policy, this study recommends strengthening regulations on the practice of money politics, increasing the institutional capacity of election organizers, and mainstreaming political education as a long-term strategy to build citizens' democratic awareness. By improving the legal design and practice of electoral politics, elections can function not only as a five-year political ritual, but also as a means of social transformation towards a more substantial, inclusive, and sustainable democracy

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the entity of the grave pilgrimage practice as a form of religious and social meaning transformation through a case study at the tomb of Datuk Sulaiman in Pattimang Village. The pilgrimage tradition serves as a space for articulating local Islamic identity rooted in the history of the spread of Islam in the Kedatuan Luwu region. This is a cultural study employing a qualitative approach through participatory observation and interviews with religious leaders and local communities. Data analysis was conducted using a descriptive narrative model with historical, anthropological, and religious approaches. The results of the study show that: (1) the arrival of Datuk Sulaiman as an Islamic missionary laid the historical foundation for the pilgrimage tradition in North Luwu; (2) the pilgrimage tradition at Datuk Sulaiman’s tomb has transformed from a purely religious practice into a form of collective cultural expression; (3) the pilgrimage process contains symbolic dimensions representing the relationship between the community and the sacred figure; and (4) the motives and purposes of the pilgrims are not only spiritual (tabarruk) but also social, such as strengthening solidarity, communal identity, and the continuity of local Islamic traditions. Unlike other studies that focus on the dimensions of karamah (miraculous power) of saints and devotional patterns, this research emphasizes the socio-cultural function of pilgrimage as a means of reconstructing Islamic history and preserving the collective memory of coastal communities in South Sulawesi.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze divorce caused by toxic relationships as a form of psychological violence within the framework of Islamic family law and its relevance to Law Number 23 of 2004 concerning the Elimination of Domestic Violence (UU PKDRT). This research employs a qualitative approach through library research using primary sources such as classical Islamic jurisprudence texts, religious court decisions, and statutory regulations, supported by secondary sources including books and scholarly articles. The data were analyzed descriptively and analytically through a normative-sociological approach. The findings show that psychological violence in toxic relationships constitutes darar ma‘nawi, which contradicts the principles of mu‘asyarah bi al-ma‘ruf and the objectives of maqasid al-syari‘ah. Decisions from the Religious Courts of Jember and Malang demonstrate that judges increasingly consider emotional harm and mental suffering as legitimate grounds for divorce, aligning with the provisions of UU PKDRT. This study highlights the convergence between Islamic jurisprudence and positive law in protecting victims of non-physical violence and underscores the need to strengthen legal understanding and evidentiary mechanisms that are responsive to psychological abuse.

Abstract

Whiteleg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) dominates global aquaculture production due to its adaptability to intensive systems. However, intensive systems often experience excess accumulation of nitrogenous waste and total organic matter (TOM), which can destabilize microbial communities and affect water quality. While protozoa are known as bioindicators, few studies have explored how their functional composition interacts with nitrogen cycling and production performance in shrimp ponds. This study investigated the relationships between nitrogenous compounds, TOM, bacterial and protozoan abundance in two intensive shrimp ponds (HP: high protozoan abundance and LP: low protozoan abundance). Water quality parameters, including Total Ammonia Nitrogen (TAN), nitrite, nitrate, TOM, and phosphate, were monitored weekly alongside microbial assessments of total bacterial count (TBC), total Vibrio count (TVC), and protozoa abundance. Protozoa were identified microscopically, while shrimp performance was measured by growth, feed conversion ratio (FCR), survival, and productivity. TOM emerged as the primary ecological driver, significantly correlating with Vibrio abundance (r = 0.585, p < 0.05). Although the high-protozoa pond featured greater bacterial biomass and more bacterivorous taxa (e.g., Ciliata, Vorticella), it had lower shrimp productivity. Conversely, the low-protozoa pond dominated by detritivores (Euplotes, Strombidionopsis) achieved superior growth, FCR, and final biomass, despite higher TOM and nitrite levels. These findings suggest that protozoan functional composition, rather than total abundance, critically influences nutrient cycling, microbial stability, and production outcomes. Managing TOM and fostering beneficial microbial loops are essential strategies for sustainable shrimp farming.
