Abstract

Nutritional issues in children aged 0-59 months are critical, as this age group is particularly vulnerable to dietary changes affecting nutritional status. Weaning, defined as the transition from breastfeeding to solid foods, and maternal knowledge are considered key factors influencing child nutrition. This study aims to examine the impact of weaning age and maternal knowledge on the nutritional status of children aged 0-59 months in the Johan Pahlawan Public Health Center area. A cross-sectional design with simple random sampling was used, involving 95 respondents. Data collection included questionnaires and nutritional status measurements. Chi-Square analysis revealed a significant relationship between maternal knowledge and child nutritional status (p=0.009), while no significant relationship was found between weaning age and nutritional status (p=0.126). These findings suggest that enhanced maternal knowledge plays a crucial role in improving child nutritional outcomes, whereas weaning age does not have a significant effect.

Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between mothers' nutritional knowledge, dietary intake of children, and under-five nutritional status in Ranto Panyang, Meureubo Sub-district, West Aceh. Despite varied economic conditions, malnutrition persists, highlighting the critical role of maternal knowledge in determining children's nutrition outcomes. Employing a cross-sectional quantitative design, this study surveyed mothers in 2023 to assess their understanding of nutrition and its effects on child health. Findings reveal that 52.4% of mothers possess adequate nutritional knowledge, while 47.6% demonstrate limited awareness. A statistically significant association (p<0.05) was identified between maternal knowledge and the nutritional status of under-fives, suggesting that improved maternal education could positively impact child nutrition. These results underscore the necessity of targeted educational initiatives, particularly in regions with high malnutrition rates, to empower mothers with essential nutrition knowledge and foster healthier communities.

Abstract

This study investigates the correlation between menstrual cycle patterns, breakfast habits, physical activity, and nutritional status among adolescents at SMP 2 Meureubo. The research aims to identify key factors influencing menstrual cycle regularity. A total of 53 students were selected using a random sampling method for this cross-sectional quantitative study. Data were gathered through a structured questionnaire assessing breakfast habits, levels of physical activity, and nutritional status determined by Body Mass Index (BMI). Chi-square analysis revealed statistically significant associations, with breakfast habits (p<0.05) and physical activity (p<0.05) playing critical roles in maintaining menstrual regularity. Adolescents with consistent breakfast routines demonstrated a 77% improvement in cycle regularity, while adequate physical activity contributed to a 73% enhancement in consistency. The findings underscore the importance of balanced nutrition and physical activity in promoting healthy menstrual patterns. The study recommends targeted health education programs focusing on balanced meals, regular exercise, and consistent monitoring of nutritional health to improve adolescent menstrual health outcomes.

Abstract

The participation of mothers with toddlers in Posyandu (Integrated Health Service Post) activities is essential for monitoring children's growth, health, and nutrition through regular weighing with the Towards Health Card (KMS). In 2020, only 43.3% of toddlers in West Aceh were weighed, with Puskesmas Johan Pahlawan recording just 13.9% in 2023, and Gampa Village showing only 0.15% from July to September. This study aimed to identify factors influencing mothers' visits to Posyandu in Gampa Village, West Aceh District. Using a descriptive correlation method with a cross-sectional design, 125 mothers with toddlers were selected from a population of 358 through accidental sampling. Data were collected via questionnaires and analyzed using the Chi-Square test. Significant relationships were found between Posyandu visits and education (p = 0.046), knowledge (p = 0.041), and family support (p = 0.003), while no significant relationships were observed for occupation (p = 0.337) and distance to Posyandu (p = 0.773). Strengthening counseling and socialization efforts is recommended to improve maternal awareness of the importance of regular Posyandu attendance for children's growth and development monitoring.

Abstract

Breast milk is recognized as the optimal source of nutrition for infants, particularly during the early stages of life. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life, followed by complementary feeding while continuing breastfeeding for up to two years. The Johan Pahlawan Health Center reported one of the lowest rates of exclusive breastfeeding coverage in West Aceh District in 2020, at 24.7%. This study aims to identify factors associated with exclusive breastfeeding practices among mothers in Gampa Village, Johan Pahlawan District, West Aceh Regency. Employing a cross-sectional research design with a quantitative approach, data for dependent and independent variables were collected simultaneously. A purposive sampling method was used, and statistical analysis was conducted using the Chi-Square test with a significance level of ?=0.05. The findings revealed that among 34 respondents, 30 mothers (88.2%) provided exclusive breastfeeding, while 4 mothers (11.8%) did not. The study concluded that variables such as education, occupation, and knowledge of exclusive breastfeeding are significantly related to breastfeeding practices, whereas age showed no significant relationship with exclusive breastfeeding in the study population.
