Abstract

The findings of this study indicate that the ELSA Speak application is effective in improving the pronunciation ability of eighth-grade students at SMPN 7 Sinjai. This is evidenced by the results of the paired-sample t-test, which show a significance level of 0.000, lower than the significance threshold of 0.05; therefore, the null hypothesis (H₀) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H₁) is accepted. Accordingly, it can be concluded that the use of the ELSA Speak application has a significant positive effect on students’ pronunciation improvement. Furthermore, the N-Gain analysis reveals a score of 0.72 or 72%, which falls into the high effectiveness category. Descriptive statistical analysis also demonstrates an increase in students’ mean scores from the pretest to the posttest, indicating a significant improvement in students’ pronunciation performance after using the application. These findings are further supported by students’ positive responses during the learning process, in which they showed high levels of engagement, enthusiasm, and confidence in pronouncing English words. The ELSA Speak application also facilitates autonomous learning by providing immediate feedback, making pronunciation practice more effective, focused, and sustainable.

Abstract

Inadequate solid waste management contributes to soil degradation through increasing acidity, declining organic matter, heavy-metal accumulation, and disruption of soil microbial activity. These impacts are commonly observed around landfill sites, especially in regions with high waste generation. This study aims to assess and compare the Soil Quality Index (SQI) of two landfill areas representing contrasting regional characteristics: Sukawinatan Landfill in Palembang City and Indralaya Landfill in Ogan Ilir Regency. Soil samples were collected at varying distances from the waste mound, and several soil quality parameters—organic matter, total nitrogen, pH, available phosphorus, and moisture content—were analysed. The SQI was calculated using a weighted integration method to provide an overall evaluation of soil health at each site. The results show that the Sukawinatan Landfill exhibits lower SQI values than the Indralaya Landfill, indicating more severe soil degradation due to greater waste volume and higher operational intensity. Increasing distance from the waste pile improved soil quality, although recovery patterns differed between locations. These findings highlight the need for improved waste-management practices and routine soil monitoring to prevent further environmental degradation. The study provides important insights for policy formulation related to landfill management, particularly in urban and peri-urban areas. Key words : Indralaya, Palembang, soil quality, solid waste, Soil Quality Index

Abstract

Science learning in the modern era demands innovative teaching strategies that focus not only on conceptual mastery but also on developing students' science process skills and scientific attitudes. This study analyzes the effectiveness of a deep approach to learning—characterized by higher-order thinking and constructivist strategies—on these competencies in physics education. A quasi-experimental Nonequivalent Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design was employed, involving two groups of 200 students each: the experimental group received the deep learning intervention, while the control group used conventional methods. Data from written tests, observations, and attitude questionnaires were analyzed using ANCOVA to control for pretest differences between non-equivalent groups. Results showed significant improvements in the experimental group. Science process skills advanced across all indicators (observation: mean 78.12; classification: 77.45; prediction: 75.90; measurement: 76.30; concluding: 77.80; communicating: 78.50), with overall posttest mean of 76.97 (SD=7.35; t=2.95; p=0.006 <0.05) versus control's 69.37 (SD=8.12). Scientific attitudes also improved (curiosity: 77.20; openness to evidence: 76.80; objectivity: 75.90; critical thinking: 76.50; collaboration: 77.00), yielding mean 76.09 (SD=6.84; t=2.04; p=0.047 <0.05) against control's 75.00 (SD=7.20). The constructivist-based deep approach to learning effectively fosters essential scientific competencies, providing practical recommendations for meaningful physics instruction in Indonesia

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the educational budget efficiency policy at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta from the perspective of educational financial management, especially its empat on accountability and educational services. The research method used a qualitative approach with data collection through semi-structured in-depth interviews with relevant parties at the institution, non-participatory observation, and documentation studies. The results showed that the implementation of budget efficiency encourages more careful and transparent financial planning, thus improving institutional accountability. However, this policy also poses challenges in the form of a mismatch between budget allocations and the real needs of work units, which has an impact on the effectiveness of program implementation and human resource development. On the other hand, budget constraints trigger innovation in the utilization of digital learning technology, which supports more cost-effective and flexible education services. The benefits of this research are to provide conceptual contributions and evaluative material for higher education administrators in formulating budget efficiency policies that continue to ensure accountability and quality of education.

Abstract

This study analyzes the construction of consumption behavior among dormitory students amid the expansion of digital advertising, the rise of consumer culture, and the role of religion and educational institutions as normative mechanisms. Using a qualitative descriptive-analytical design, data were collected through observation and in-depth interviews with boarding house students who actively use social media and online shopping platforms. The analysis combines Jean Baudrillard’s perspective on consumer society, Pierre Bourdieu’s concept of habitus, and Max Weber’s theory of rational action to examine consumption dynamics at micro, meso, and macro levels. The findings reveal that digital advertising not only delivers product information but also produces meanings that shape students’ preferences, lifestyles, and social identities. Intensive exposure to advertising, combined with technological adaptability and a phase of self-discovery, shifts consumption orientation from utility value to symbolic value. Consumption becomes a strategy for gaining social recognition and constructing self-image. However, students are not merely passive consumers; they evaluate ratings and reviews, consider financial limitations, and even transform into digital economic actors such as resellers. At the same time, tensions emerge between value-oriented rationality derived from religion and education and the instrumental rationality promoted by the digital market system, which may lead to impulsive buying, wastefulness, and financial strain. This study contributes by positioning boarding house students as active agents negotiating within digital capitalism and recommends strengthening financial and media literacy alongside the internalization of religious consumption ethics.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the model of understanding Islamic law through the approach of al-Istiqrā’ al-Ma‘nawī and to examine its outcomes and implications for the development of contemporary Islamic law. The al-Istiqrā’ al-Ma‘nawī approach represents an inductive method that emphasizes the extraction of meaning from various partial evidences derived from the Qur’an, Hadith, and the principles of uṣūl al-fiqh, in order to formulate inclusive legal principles oriented toward the objectives of Islamic law (Maqāṣid al-Sharī‘ah). This research employs a qualitative method with a normative-philosophical approach, involving the analysis of normative texts, the perspectives of classical and contemporary scholars, and the maqāṣid framework in understanding Islamic law. The findings indicate that the al-Istiqrā’ al-Ma‘nawī approach is capable of producing a comprehensive, integrative, and contextual understanding of Islamic law. This approach does not merely focus on the textual dimension, but also takes into account the objectives of the Sharī‘ah and the social realities surrounding the application of the law. Its relevance is reflected in its ability to respond to various contemporary issues in Islamic law, such as digital transactions, public policy, and broader concerns of social welfare. Nevertheless, this approach also has limitations, particularly the potential for subjectivity and overgeneralization if not supported by a rigorous methodological framework. Therefore, al-Istiqrā’ al-Ma‘nawī can be positioned as a strategic model in the reform of ijtihād methodology to develop Islamic law that is adaptive, moderate, and oriented toward justice and public welfare.
