Abstract

Project based learning (PjBL) has become one of the innovative trends in education to create an exciting teaching-learning environment where the teachers become the facilitators to construct their students’ knowledge. This study aims to develop implementation Project Based Learning to increase students speaking competence. This study uses Four D model procedure. To enhance students speaking competence, this research also develops a syllabus, lesson plans and digital technology. This research investigates the implementation of PjBL by using digital apparatus which is connected with internet to increase students speaking competence of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) Simalungun regency, North Sumatera Province, Indonesia. The validation of PjBL was carried out by three validators of each material experts and media experts. The feasibility study of PjBL products shows validity of 85% with very valid criteria. The result of the researches obtained an average score of 90%. The syllabus obtained an average score of 84%, lesson plans obtained an average score of 84%, and digital facilities obtained an average score of 85%. In conclusion, PJBL increases students speaking competence especially supported by digital facilities.

Abstract

Improving writing skills is as supporting factor for the success of learning carried out by each teacher. Writing ability comes from the habit of reading and analyzing problems in learning that is carried out every day. The culture of writing is still far from being a habit for teachers of SMP Negeri 3 Jorlang Hataran. Therefore, the University of HKBP Nommensen Pematangsiantar University team has carried out a community service at SMP Negeri 3 Jorlang Hataran, Jalan Besar Parapat, Nagori Bah Sampuran. district Jorlang Hataran, Simalungun Regency, North Sumatra where this service aims to socialize methods of improving English literacy skills using the problem based learning method for teachers of SMP Negeri 3 Jorlang Hataran. This service has been received with good response and was appreciated by the Principal of SMP Negeri 3 Jorlang Hataran. The results obtained from this service were 76.7% of participants who stated that they were satisfied with this service. It is hoped that with this activity, there will be a good cooperation established between the University and the school to develop the quality of teachers in order to create the higher quality education.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to respond to the bold learning at HKBP Nommensen University Pematang Siantar in the middle of compiling a strategic plan for implementing online education. At the same time, the misconceptions and myths of the difficulties of online teaching and learning, the technology available to support online support, the support and compensation required for high-quality instructors, and the needs of online students create challenges for such vision statements and planning documents. The method of this study is quantitative research and adapted Shaharance et.al (2016) questionnaire as the instrument to collect the data They are divided into four classes, two classes learn using Google Class and the other 2 learn without learning online. The research method used in this research is quantitative research and a questionnaire is used as data. The results showed that student achievement was higher after they studied Syntax Structure using Google Class.

Abstract

Minimnya pengetahuan guru mengenai penulisan buku ajar merupakan permasalahan umum yang terjadi di sekolah karena guru pada umunya menggunakkan buku ajar yang diberikan oleh pemerintah. Olehkarana itu diperlukan sosialisasi penulisan buku ajar agar guru juga dapat menulis buku ajar yang dapat digunakan di sekolah. Tujuan dilaksanakannya pengabdian ini adalah agar guru- guru di SMP Negeri 3 Jorlang Hataran dapat memahami pentingnya penulisan buku ajar dan melalui pengabdian ini diharapakan guru- guru dapat menulis bbuku ajar yang baik. Metode pelaksanaan pengabdian ini menggunakan metode penyuluhan dan metode angket. Hasil pengabdian berdasarkan angket yang diisi oleh peserta pengabdian menujukkan bahwa kegiatan pengabdian ini memberikan dampak yang positif bagi peserta PKM. Berdasarkan hasil tingkat kepuasan peserta PKM maka diperoleh bahwa peserta kegiatan PKM 100 % menyatakan sangat setuju dengan kegiatan pengabdian ini. Keberhasilan pelaksanaan kegiatan ini juga ditunjukkan dalam bentuk kepuasan dari peserta yang hadir mengikuti kegiatan seminar dan pelatihan yang dilaksanakan dengan terlihat antusiasme peserta selama proses kegiatan berlangsung.

Abstract

The objectives of this research are to identify and classify the types of error in using conditional sentence type II based on surface strategy taxonomy and to find out the proportions (frequency and percentage) of errors that made by students in using conditional sentence type II at the third grade of SMA Negeri 1 Pematang Siantar. The method of this research was descriptive qualitative research analysis. The researcher chooses 34 of the third grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Pematang Siantar in academic year of 2023/2024. In data collecting, the researcher used test that consist of two parts; part I and part II. In part I, there were ten items where the students were asked to fill the blanks regarding conditional sentence type II. While in part II, the students were asked to create ten examples of conditional sentence type II. The researcher took the data to analyze, percentage, and classify the error based on surface strategy taxonomy. In conclusion, the researcher found four types of error, namely; omission, addition, misformation, and misordering. The students committed total 232 errors in using conditional sentences type II that divided into omission errors with 36 items or 15.52%, adition errors with 37 items or 15.94%, misformation errors with 146 errors or 62.93%, miordering errors with 13 items or 5.61%.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh film animasi singkat terhadap kemampuan menulis teks narasi siswa di kelas delapan di UPTD SMP N 9 Pematang Siantar. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif dengan desain penelitian pra-eksperimental yang memanfaatkan pre-test dan post-test untuk mengeksplorasi peningkatan dalam keterampilan menulis siswa setelah dihadapkan pada film animasi singkat. Populasi penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas 8 UPTD SMP Negeri 9 Pematang Siantar. Peneliti dengan bijaksana memilih untuk menunjuk 8-5 sebagai kelas kontrol, sementara 8-3 dipilih sebagai kelas eksperimen. Untuk memperoleh data, peneliti menggunakan tes sebagai instrumen. Melalui analisis pengujian hipotesis yang cermat, peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa pada penentuan yang tegas dan meyakinkan bahwa nilai t-hitung melampaui nilai t-tabel (6,443 > 1,674). Akibatnya hipotesis alternatif (Ha) diterima, sedangkan hipotesis nol (H0) ditolak. Konsekuensinya, peneliti menegaskan bahwa pemanfaatan film animasi singkat menghasilkan dampak yang signifikan terhadap kemampuan menulis siswa, khususnya dalam menulis teks narasi.

Abstract

This research agrees with the finding data which is improving students’ speaking ability through series picturesin speaking lesson in SMK Swasta Taman Pendidikan on Jalan Radjamin Purba, SH Pasar I-A Perdagangan, Kecamatan Bandar – Kabupaten Simalungun. An action research class is conducted to define the solution of the improving students’ achievement in speaking. Through this research, the researcher shared the result of the students speaking capabilities after using series pictures. The datum shows the comparison between students’ speaking ability using pictures and without using pictures. The design of this research was the experimental quantitative research which is aim to know the effect of the series pictures in the students speaking learning activity. In collecting the data of the research, the researcher had to do three steps as pre-test, treatment and post-test. The result of the tests shows that students’ speaking ability is improved through using pictures series

Abstract

The objectives of the research is to find out the effect of think pair share teaching model to the reading comprehension of grade eleven students of SMK Swasta GKPS 2 Pematang Siantar on a factual report text. This research employed a quantitative method with a quasi experimental design method. The data was collected by using multiple choice. In the experimental class the treatment used was think pair share teaching model, while the control class used question answer technique. The instrument used to collect data was taken from the result of the students’ pre-test and post-test scores which were then calculated. The results of the students’ scores on the post-test showed that the use of think pair share was very effective in reading comprehension on a factual report text of grade eleven students. T-test calculation shows that the t-test value is higher than the t-table value. The null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. And alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. So, it can be concluded that the think pair share teaching model is very significant in developing students’ reading comprehension especially on factual report text.
