Abstract

Hypertension is a chronic disease that requires long-term therapy. The prevalence of hypertension continues to increase every year, but patient knowledge of treatment is still low. Better knowledge will increase patient compliance in treatment so that blood pressure is better controlled and the risk of complications is avoided. This study aims to determine the effect of booklets on the knowledge of hypertensive prolanis patients at the Rasimah Ahmad Health Center, Bukittinggi City. The type of research used was an experimental pretest – posttest control group design with 40 respondents who were randomly divided into two groups (control and intervention). The intervention medium used in this study was a booklet. The instrument used was the HK-LS questionnaire to assess knowledge. The results of the study showed an increase in the compliance of hypertensive patients. The statistical analysis used was the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks test, to determine the effect of the intervention on the patient's level of knowledge. From the results of the study, it showed that giving booklets obtained a significant value (p-value = 0.000), so it could be concluded that giving booklets had an effect on increasing the knowledge of hypertensive prolanis patients at the Rasimah Ahmad Health Center, Bukittinggi City.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to examine sociodemographic features, visual analogue scale (VAS) scores before and after administration of analgesics, the effectiveness of the use of analgesics and antibiotics. This research uses descriptive analysis method with prospective cross sectional design. Data collection was carried out prospectively with direct observation of the pain felt by the patient using a VAS card at the 24th hour after surgery and after administration of analgesics. Observations were made on the patient's surgical wound on days 3-7 to 30 days postoperatively to observe the presence or absence of ILO. Of the 40 patients studied, the most age was 26 to 35 years (27.77%), the least were 45 to 55 years (11.11%) and 56 to 65 years (11.11%) ). Based on gender, 27 people (67.50%) were male and 13 people (32.50%) were female. Out of 40 patients, 39 patients (97.5%) did not have ILO and 1 patient (2.5%) had ILO. Before administration of analgesics all patients experienced pain. After administration of paracetamol infusion in 8 patients, ketorolac injection in 31 patients, and tramadol injection in 1 patient, the pain scale decreased. Data analysis using the Wilcoxon test showed the effectiveness of the use of analgesics on changes in the pain scale in patients (p <0.05) and descriptive analysis showed that there was effectiveness in the use of antibiotics in postoperative closed fracture patients.

Abstract

Eco-Enzyme, a multifunctional liquid produced from a mixture of organic waste such as vegetables, fruits, brown sugar, coconut sugar, corn sugar, sugarcane, and water that has undergone fermentation, has various benefits for the environment and human health. Eco-Enzyme contains beneficial enzymes that accelerate biochemical reactions in the environment. The enzymes found in Eco-Enzyme can be used for various applications, such as organic liquid fertilizer for plants, an additive in detergents, floor cleaners, pesticide residue cleaners, and rust removers. Using Eco-Enzyme as a liquid soap can help reduce soil pollution. Meanwhile, using Eco-Enzyme as a cleaning agent can help reduce the use of hazardous chemicals that damage the environment. This integrated program is carried out in three stages: the first is to socialize the benefits of using Eco-Enzyme, the second is to make Eco-Enzyme, and the third is to make soap from Eco-Enzyme. The production of Eco-Enzyme begins with the collection of organic waste consisting of fruit and vegetable waste, which is then mixed with brown sugar and water and left to ferment for three months. After the Eco-Enzyme product is ready, soap-making uses ingredients such as potassium hydroxide (KOH), coconut oil, cooking oil, distilled water, orange-scented perfume, and Eco-Enzyme. Training on Eco-Enzyme and soap making is conducted in the Andalas Subdistrict, which is welcomed enthusiastically by the local community. This program is expected to serve as a reference for transforming organic waste into more practical and environmentally friendly sustainable products.

Abstract

Bipolar disorder is a chronic psychiatric condition that requires long-term pharmacotherapy to control symptoms and prevent relapse. Mood stabilisers play a central role in its management; however, inappropriate use may reduce treatment effectiveness and increase the risk of adverse outcomes. This study aimed to evaluate the appropriateness of mood stabiliser use among outpatients with bipolar disorder at a psychiatric hospital in Padang City. This retrospective descriptive study used medical record data from January to December 2023. A total of 28 patients who met the inclusion criteria were included, with 220 outpatient visits analysed. Data collected included sociodemographic characteristics, clinical conditions, and medication use. The appropriateness of therapy was assessed based on four criteria: indication, patient suitability, drug selection, and dosage, using established pharmacotherapy guidelines as the reference standard. The results showed that most patients were female (78.57%) and aged 18–59 years (75%). The evaluation of drug use demonstrated that the appropriateness of indication, patient suitability, and drug selection each reached 83.18%. However, dosage appropriateness was considerably lower at 54.55%, indicating that nearly half of the prescriptions involved suboptimal dosing. While most aspects of mood stabiliser use were generally appropriate, dosing remains a critical issue that may affect treatment effectiveness and patient safety. These findings highlight the importance of improving adherence to clinical guidelines and conducting regular evaluations of pharmacotherapy to optimise outcomes in patients with bipolar disorder.
