Abstract

Aquaponics is a sustainable aquaculture technology that integrates a recirculation aquaculture system with plant cultivation in one system. The aquaponic system can be a solution that can be used as an intensive fish farming system and increase fish farming production. However, intensive cultivation will cause dissolved oxygen concentration to decrease rapidly. It will affect the water's quality, so an aeration system is needed to maintain the balance of dissolved oxygen in the water. The difference in the use of aeration systems in aquaponic systems will certainly provide different water quality results. So, this study aims to determine the type of aeration system most effective for cultivation activities in the aquaponic system. The method used in this study is a descriptive exploration of various literature and research results that have been published, both from books, national journals, and international journals. Based on a comparison of the results of previous studies, it can be concluded that aeration technology with microbubble sizes such as MNB and FBs can increase oxygen higher and more stable than conventional and venturi aeration technologies. The application of MNB and FBs aeration technology can produce water quality with dissolved oxygen concentration >7 mg/L, reduce ammonia concentration to <0.01 mg/L, nitrate concentration to <0.6 mg/L, and phosphate concentration <0.3 mg/L, as well as reducing total solids to 16% and volatile solids to 32%.

Abstract

Kepulauan seribu archipelago is home to Kelapa Dua Island, a potential marine tourism destination and habitat for diverse marine life. The survival of marine biota hinges on suitable physical and chemical water parameters, encompassing temperature, pH, salinity, and dissolved oxygen (DO). This study aims to evaluate water quality and litter distribution on Kelapa Dua Island within Kepualauan Seribu National Park. Results reveal that the water quality largely aligns with established standards; however, specific points surpass limits, notably lower salinity at stasion 3 (26%o), and higher pH at station 2 (9.35). Despite meeting quality standards, the island's status as a populated area and tourist destination raises concerns about potential alterations to water quality. Furthermore, observations on litter distribution indicate a status categorized as B (0-4/m) and C (4-10/m), highlighting a relatively low level of litter presence. The interaction of human activities, both as inhabitants and visitors, may contribute to fluctuations in water quality. Understanding these dynamics is crucial for sustainable management, ensuring the preservation of Pulau Kelapa's ecological integrity as a cherished marine environment and tourist attraction. This study provides insights into the delicate balance between human interactions and environmental preservation in the context of Pulau Kelapa, Kepualauan Seribu. Keywords:Water qualityLitter DistributionKelapa Dua IslandKepulauan Seribu

Abstract

The untapped potential of fish processing production waste as a source of fish feed ingredients makes it a promising resource due to its widespread availability. This study aims to evaluate the process of producing fish waste silage through probiotic fermentation to assess the resulting quality post-fermentation. Employing an exploratory descriptive method, this research draws from diverse literature sources, encompassing books, national journals, and international publications. The comparison of findings from prior research indicates that fermenting fish waste with microbes, particularly lactic acid bacteria, enhances its protein content, positively impacting fish growth performance. Introducing silage at a 10% dose achieves a tilapia survival rate of 83.33%, while a 25% silage addition yields a relative growth rate of 222.63% for catfish and a feed conversion ratio of 1.06 for tilapia. Keywords:FermentationFish wasteFish silageLactic acid bacteria

Abstract

Common pleco is a wild fish whose habitat occupies a lot of reservoir areas and public waters in Indonesia. The amount is abundant and not consumed by humans, is a great potential to be used as a source of animal protein in fish feed. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the digestibility of common pleco fish meal in artificial feed for nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus.) The study was carried out at the Aquaculture Laboratory Hatchery, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran, while the manufacture of common pleco meal, proximate analysis of feed ingredients and the test feed was carried out by the Laboratory of Chemistry and Animal Feed, Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Universitas Padjadjaran. The design used in this study was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 5 (five) treatments and 3 (three) replications. The treatment given was the addition of common pleco flour in artificial feed at 0%, 5%, 10%, 15% and 20%. The parameters observed in this study consisted of digestibility, growth rate, and water quality. The results of the research on some of these parameters indicate that the addition of common pleco meal can still be used in artificial feed up to 10%. The tilapia studied had the highest relative growth with a value of 0.218%. The digestibility level of the studied feed reached a value of 85.256%, and the water quality studied was still within the safe tolerance limits for fish farming. Based on the results of this study, the negative effect on the survival rate of tilapia did not occur until the addition of common pleco flour to artificial feed reached 10%. Thus, the fish meal has the potential as an alternative to fish meal in fish feed formulations.

Abstract

This study aims to compile socio-economic mapping and analyze socio-economic factors that influence tilapia farmer communities. The research was conducted from January 2023 to March 2023 in Lengkong Kulon Village, Sindangwangi District, Majalengka Regency. The method used is the survey method. Sampling using the purposive sampling technique was analyzed with descriptive qualitative. The results of the mapping are grouped into two aspects, namely social conditions and economic conditions. The social condition of fish farmers is that they are of productive age with a low level of education. Livelihoods as fish farmers are part-time. The aquaculture business is mostly done by men as breadwinners, while women play a role in carrying out domestic activities, the role of women in fish farming is only to help provide feed. The social stratification of the fish farmer community is in the lower strata as ordinary people. Farmers generally have a strong kinship based on family ties. The economic conditions of most fish farmers have income that is in the low category, which is less than IDR 5,000,000 per month. Social factors that hinder fish farming in developing their business are lack of counseling, lack of training, and livelihoods as fish farmers are part-time so they are not serious about carrying out the fish farming business. The economic factors that hinder fish farmers are the high prices of feed and seeds.

Abstract

Fish farming is highly dependent on the use of feed, which can even account for up to 70% of the total cost of farming. Therefore, the availability of quality feed in sufficient quantities is a key factor in ensuring successful farming. However, feed with high protein content tends to be expensive. The solution to this problem is to use alternative feed raw materials that have good nutritional content, do not compete with human needs, and are easy to obtain. Organic waste from corn harvest residues has great potential because it is easy to obtain and cheap. Corn waste has the problem of low nutritional content, so a fermentation process is needed as an effort to increase its nutritional value. This study aims to examine the extent to which the utilization of fermented corn waste can be used as fish feed to support increased fish growth performance.

Abstract

Aquaculture using the Floating Net Cage (FNCs) system has rapidly developed and become an important economic source, but it also poses environmental pressures such as pollution and eutrophication. Jatigede and Jatiluhur Reservoirs serve as examples of water bodies affected by the accumulation of aquaculture waste, despite having different legal statuses and management approaches. This study aims to evaluate the environmental impacts of FNCs aquaculture in both reservoirs and to formulate sustainable management strategies that balance economic and ecological aspects. The findings indicate that FNCs activities are prohibited in Jatigede through local regulations; however, illegal practices persist due to economic reasons, with simple farming systems centered on Nile tilapia. In contrast, Jatiluhur allows FNCs operations under a permit system, but the number of cages has exceeded the environmental carrying capacity, with more intensive farming practices using high levels of supplementary feed. Ecological impacts such as eutrophication occur in both reservoirs, with a more severe scale in Jatiluhur. Sustainable management efforts are urgently needed, including alternative livelihoods, regulation of FNCs numbers, and education on environmentally friendly aquaculture practices.

Abstract

Color is a defining trait of ornamental fish, crucial for their aesthetic appeal, but it diminishes without pigment supplementation in their diet. Utilizing dragon fruit skin as a natural feed constituent offers a promising method to intensify fish coloration. This investigation aims to assess the impact of incorporating dragon fruit skin meal into fish feed on color vibrancy and growth performance, specifically focusing on comet fish. The test subjects, ranging from 4 to 6 cm in size and weighing 3.1 ± 0.2 grams, underwent examination. Employing a completely randomized design (CRD), the study involved four treatments replicated four times: treatment A (control), B (5% dragon fruit skin meal addition), C (10% addition), and D (15% addition). Before commencing the study, a preliminary assessment of dragon fruit skin meal was conducted, encompassing a chromameter-based color pigmentation test. Results revealed positive a (red) and b (yellow) values, a chroma value of 26.32 signifying carotenoid pigments, a hue value of 3.18° indicating a red-orange hue, and a moderate antioxidant activity was observed, indicating the presence of antioxidant compounds. Findings demonstrated that a 15% addition of dragon fruit skin meal substantially enhanced color vibrancy across the fish's body sections, including the head, body, and tail. Although fish weight and length were influenced by the feed amendment, ANOVA analysis did not ascertain significant effects. Furthermore, treatment C exhibited the most favorable feed conversion ratio and specific growth rate, recording values of 0.09 ± 0.03 and 0.934 ± 0.215, respectively. Keywords: comet fish, color brightness, dragon fruit peel flour ABSTRAK Warna merupakan ciri khas yang dimiliki oleh ikan hias, yang akan memudar bila tidak ada tambahan pigmen dalam pakan.
