Abstract

Indonesia is the second largest supplier of white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei, Boone 1931) in the USA market. Hence, the need for its sustainable production and improved growth. Probiotics, among others, are known for their growth enhancing attributes. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the effects of powder and liquid probiotics on the growth of white shrimps at the Minaloka Jaya shrimp ponds, Grabag District, Purwerojo Regency, Central Java. The shrimps were cultivated for 60 days and applied with three probiotic treatments, namely commercial liquid probiotics with dosage of 10 mL/kg feed, powder probiotics with dosage of 10 g/kg feed and liquid probiotic with dosage of 10 mL/kg feed. Each probiotic preparation was administered four times a day to over 150,000 vannamei shrimps which were cultured in a semi-intensive system. Probiotics in powder and liquid forms contain Lactobacillus fermentum, L acidophilus, L. plantarum, L, curvatus, Bacillus licheniformis, B. subtilis, and B. polimyxa. B. megaterium, B. coagulans, Pseudomonasputida, Nitrosomonas sp. and Nitrobacter sp. Using the Randomized Block Design (RBD), the three treatments were replicated five times. The application of probiotics in both powder and liquid forms had increased the growth yield of the vannamei shrimp. However, the powder probiotic had shown better growth performance than the commercial liquid probiotics and liquid preparation of probiotics. Probiotic powder form provides a specific growth rate (SGR) of 8.18%, absolute body length of 9.68 cm, absolute biomass of 6.78 g, and feed conversion ratio (FCR) of 1.93.

Abstract

The transportation of goods and services is a strategic issue in logistics systems, particularly in the palm oil industry. One of the key distribution optimization challenges is the Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem (CVRP), which involves determining optimal distribution routes while considering vehicle capacity constraints. This study aims to identify the shortest distribution routes for transporting fresh oil palm fruit bunches from collection points to the palm oil mill, with the goal of minimizing total vehicle travel distance. A heuristic approach using the Saving Matrix method and a metaheuristic approach using a Genetic Algorithm were applied separately to two regions: Block P and Block Q, each consisting of 14 collection points with daily distribution schedules. The performance of both algorithms was analyzed and compared in the context of region-based distribution. The results show that the Genetic Algorithm yields more optimal solutions than the Saving Matrix, reducing the total travel distance by 33.92% in Block P and 32.81% in Block Q. In comparison, the Saving Matrix achieved reductions of 38.72% in Block P and 35.25% in Block Q. These findings indicate that the Genetic Algorithm performs better in solving CVRP for the distribution of fresh oil palm fruit bunches and can serve as a foundation for developing more efficient distribution systems using heuristic and metaheuristic approaches

Abstract

Penyandingan Village is part of the Ogan Ilir District, Indralaya District. Songket craftsmen are the main source of income besides farmers and traders in the Penyandingan village. Nearly 90% of the women in the Penyandingan village are songket craftsmen. The difficulty of songket craftsmen is in terms of marketing their handicrafts. Craftsmen need breakthroughs so that their products are widely distributed, one of which is utilizing information technology such as social media. Many economic actors, both individuals and groups, use social media to market their products. Unfortunately, the knowledge of pairing village songket craftsmen is still lacking in utilizing social media in marketing songket fabrics such as promotions on Instagram, business WhatsApp, and business Facebook. By implementing the use of social media in the marketing of songket cloths from Penyandingan village, it can help increase village income and promoting the songket cloth of Penyandingan village.

Abstract

Sangkuriang catfish (Clarias gariepinus) is one of the most commonly cultivated freshwater fish species in Indonesia. The high production of catfish is largely due to the efforts of fish farmers who are able to produce sufficient quantities to meet the increasing consumption demand. One of the aquaculture methods used is the BUDIKDAMBER system, which involves fish farming in buckets with high stocking densities. This study employed an experimental method using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 3 stocking density treatments with 4 replications: A (1 fish/liter), B (2 fish/liter), and C (3 fish/liter) for a period of 30 days. The fish were kept in buckets prepared for the budikdamber activity, with stocking densities adjusted according to each treatment, and were fed three times a day. Water quality was monitored every 3 days. The results of the study showed that up to a density of 3 fish/liter of Sangkuriang catfish fingerlings, there was no significant difference among the different stocking density treatments, and all treatments still demonstrated good performance. The best treatment was found in treatment C (3 fish/liter), with a survival rate of 77.25%, a feed conversion ratio (FCR) of 0.67, and a specific growth rate (SGR) of 3.28%.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract. Yustiati A, Andriani Y, Herawati T. 2017. Sustainable aquaculture development in floating nets at Cirata reservoir (West Java, Indonesia) through single sex nilem fish introduction. Asian J Agric 1: 29-34. This research aimed to develop a sustainable aquaculture system using single-sex nilem fish (Osteochilus hasseltii Valenciennes, 1842; syn. Osteochilus vittatus Valenciennes, 1842) in trophic level-based farming and to analyze the feeding habits, types of meal and preference level of the feed in O. vittatus farmed in Cirata Reservoir. In addition, it also aimed to determine the fish's ability as a biocontrol agent for water cleaning by measuring the ability to utilize periphyton attached to the floating nets. Research was conducted at the Laboratory of Ciparanje, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran and floating nets of Cirata reservoir. Observations of the performance of biological testing and food feeding were applied with the experimental design method of Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 5 treatments and 3 replications. The five treatments include non-artificial feeding (treatment A), 1% feeding of body weight per day (treatment B), 2% feeding of body weight per day (treatment C), 3% of feeding of body weight per day (treatment D), and 4% feeding of body weight per day (treatment E). The results showed there was no difference in both the survival and growth levels of the female single-sex fish that were given both commercial and non-commercial feed. The highest feed efficiency was observed in the 3% of commercial feeding treatment, amounting to 55.30%. The fish are herbivorous and generalist with trophic levels between 1.03% and 1.45% eating plankton for living. Fish fed with artificial food to 4% of the biomass still grazed on phytoplankton as the main source of food but adapted by changing the natural feeding and tend to be ineffective in utilizing the available food resources in the waters. During the study, both the types and amount of periphyton attached to the nets decreased. Higher commercial feeding level results in a higher density of periphyton in the floating nets.

Abstract

Feed availability is a crucial factor in aquaculture, accounting for approximately 6070% of total production costs. High-quality feed is often expensive due to reliance on imported ingredients. To address this issue, animal-based organic waste presents a promising alternative, given its abundance, underutilization, and high nutritional value when properly processed. This review was conducted from November 2024 to January 2025 using a narrative literature review approach, synthesizing previous publications to identify research gaps and development opportunities. Literature was sourced from national and international scientific databases, including Scopus, ScienceDirect, SpringerLink, and ResearchGate. The study aimed to explore the production of fermented animal by-product meal and its application in aquafeed to enhance fish growth performance. Findings indicate that fermentation significantly improves the nutritional quality of animal waste. Several reviewed studies reported that incorporating fermented by-products such as fish offal, poultry feathers, and blood at inclusion levels of 2025% can improve the growth and survival rates of juvenile fish. Therefore, the optimal use of such ingredients is recommended to reduce feed costs and support the sustainability of aquaculture systems. Keywords:Alternative ingredientsFish wasteChicken Feather WasteBlood WasteFermentationFish feed
