Abstract

This study aims to develop a contextual colloidal system module with a batik wastewater treatment context that is suitable for senior high school students. The development of this module is motivated by the widespread use of teaching materials that do not fully align with curriculum demands, focusing solely on scientific content without applying a contextual approach. The research method employed is Design Development Evaluation (DDE), while the development of the teaching material follows the Four Steps Teaching Material Development (4STMD) model. In the design stage, analysis and planning of the type of teaching material to be developed were conducted, resulting in an initial draft of the module. The development stage, based on 4STMD, consists of four steps: selection, structuring, characterization, and didactic reduction, leading to the creation of a draft teaching material. The evaluation stage involved feasibility testing by chemistry teachers and experts, and comprehensibility testing with students. The evaluation results indicate that the developed contextual teaching material, based on the batik wastewater treatment context, is aligned with the curriculum, conceptually accurate, and feasible for use as independent learning material. The feasibility test yielded a percentage score of 95.4%, and the comprehensibility test yielded a score of 92%.

Abstract

Teaching materials are one of the important components in learning. Especially project-based learning, students really need teaching materials that can help direct their learning. This study aims to develop teaching materials that can facilitate project-based learning in the subject of science projects in vocational high schools. The research method used is research and development, namely developing teaching materials in the form of modules with the 4STMD development method which stands for Four Steps Teaching Material Development. The 4STMD method has four stages of development, namely the selection, structuring, characterization and didactic reduction stages. The ability of teaching materials to facilitate learning is carried out by reading and understanding tests on grade 10 students at one of the vocational high schools in Sumedang Regency, West Java. Based on the results of the readability test by students, 97.9% stated that the module was easy to read, while the results of the understanding test showed that 84.5% stated that the module was easy to understand. The results of the readability and understanding tests showed that most of the text in the module was easy to understand by users, namely students. The results of the study can be concluded that teaching materials with the 4STMD method can facilitate project-based learning in the science project in vocational schools.

Abstract

For a student to gain a deeper understanding of concepts in chemistry, they need to learn concepts at three levels of representation: macroscopic, submicroscopic, and symbolic. The three levels of representation of information are crucial for developing critical thinking skills. But the textbook, which is the main learning resource, plays a vital role in helping a student relate concepts at the three levels. The objective of this research was to assess the display of carbohydrate representation at three levels in ten general chemistry textbooks. In order to examine 120 visual representations, this research employed qualitative content analysis, with five criteria developed from the work of Gkitzia et al. (2020). Criteria C1-C5 include the following: type of representation (C1), interpretation of surface characteristics (C2), relationship to text (C4), presence and nature of captions (C5), and level of correlation between elements that comprise the different representations. Thirdly, the usefulness of the proposed criteria was compared to chemistry textbooks. The results showed that there was a dominance of representations at the symbolic level. Moreover, some of the representations were found to have insufficient subtitles to give meaning, especially at the submicroscopic level. The conceptual understanding of students can be impaired by the dominance of symbolic representations and the absence of visual support for other levels. To ensure that critical thinking is done effectively, this study stresses the need to develop learning materials that incorporate the three levels of representation in a balanced manner. These five criteria can also be used to analyze existing school textbooks and to design new Chemistry textbooks.

Abstract

The successful implementation of the community health development program to improve the quality of public health in Cihanjuang Village cannot be separated from the support and various active roles of the entire community from various circles. The role of Posyandu is in improving the quality of maternal and child health and Posyandu is a community health center. Posyandu plays an important role in improving the quality of maternal and child health through health service processes such as family planning, nutrition, vaccination, and MCH services. This Kuliah Kerja Nyata activity aims to provide education regarding the importance of monitoring maternal and child health at posyandu. Data collection was obtained through interviews and observations. The results obtained show that mothers in Cihanjuang Village already understand the importance of vaccination status and children's health, but need to receive training to determine children's nutritional status and know the appropriate vaccination intervals. This counseling activity is expected to be carried out regularly every month to detect any deviations in growth and take corrective action as soon as possible so as not to disrupt the child's growth and development process.   Abstrak Keberhasilan pelaksanaan program pembangunan kesehatan masyarakat untuk meningkatkan mutu kesehatan masyarakat di Desa Cihanjuang tidak lepas dari dukungan dan berbagai peran aktif seluruh masyarakat dari berbagai kalangan. Peran Posyandu dalam meningkatkan kualitas kesehatan ibu dan anak dan Posyandu merupakan pusat kesehatan masyarakat. Posyandu berperan penting dalam meningkatkan kualitas kesehatan ibu dan anak melalui proses pelayanan kesehatan seperti KB, gizi, vaksinasi, dan pelayanan KIA. Kegiatan Kuliah Kerja Nyata ini bertujuan untuk menyelenggarakan penyuluhan mengenai pentingnya pemantauan kesehatan ibu dan anak di posyandu. Pengumpulan data diperoleh melalui wawancara dan observasi. Hasil yang diperoleh menunjukkan bahwa para ibu di Desa Cihanjuang sudah memahami tentang pentingnya status vaksinasi dan kesehatan anak, hanya saja perlu mendapatkan pelatihan untuk menentukan status gizi anak dan mengetahui interval vaksinasi yang sesuai. Kegiatan penyuluhan ini diharapkan dilakukan secara rutin setiap bulannya untuk mendeteksi adanya penyimpangan pertumbuhan dan mengambil tindakan perbaikan sesegera mungkin agar tidak mengganggu proses tumbuh kembang anak. Abstract

The evaluation of the environmental cleanliness program in Cihanjuang Village serves as a research background for implementing the Village SDGs program, aiming to create safe and comfortable areas in Cihanjuang Village, particularly focusing on improving cleanliness in the residential environment. This community service aims to improve the environmental cleanliness in Cihanjuang Village as part of the implementation of the SDGs Village initiative. The primary focus of this service is to evaluate the ecological cleanliness conditions in the village and to create a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment. The service was conducted using a descriptive approach through direct observations of 15 neighborhood units (RW) in Cihanjuang Village. The methods employed included data collection through surveys, as well as evaluations of the village environment's cleanliness, beauty, and tidiness. The evaluation results showed significant variation between RW units, with some RW units achieving relatively high scores. In contrast, others had lower scores, indicating the need for improved facilities and increased community awareness. These findings underscore the importance of active community participation in maintaining cleanliness, as well as the support of the village government in providing adequate facilities, such as segregated waste bins and sanitation facilities. This service is expected to contribute positively to improving environmental cleanliness in Cihanjuang Village and strengthen environmental awareness among the village community.   Abstrak Evaluasi program kebersihan lingkungan di Desa Cihanjuang adalah penelitian yang di latar belakangi untuk mewujudkan program SDG’s Desa dengan kawasan aman dan nyaman di Desa Cihanjuang, khususnya kebersihan di lingkungan pemukiman. Pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kebersihan lingkungan di Desa Cihanjuang sebagai bagian dari penerapan SDGs Desa. Fokus utama pengabdian ini adalah evaluasi kondisi kebersihan lingkungan desa, dengan tujuan menciptakan lingkungan yang bersih, sehat, dan berkelanjutan. Pengabdian ini dilakukan dengan pendekatan deskriptif melalui observasi langsung di lapangan terhadap 15 RW di Desa Cihanjuang. Metode yang digunakan meliputi pengumpulan data melalui survei, evaluasi kebersihan, keindahan, dan kerapihan lingkungan desa. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan adanya variasi yang signifikan antara RW, dengan beberapa RW mencapai skor yang cukup baik, namun ada juga RW dengan skor rendah yang menunjukkan kebutuhan untuk peningkatan fasilitas dan kesadaran masyarakat. Temuan ini mengindikasikan pentingnya partisipasi aktif masyarakat dalam menjaga kebersihan serta dukungan dari pemerintah desa dalam penyediaan fasilitas yang memadai, seperti tempat sampah terpilah dan fasilitas sanitasi. Pengabdian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan kontribusi positif dalam meningkatkan kebersihan lingkungan di Desa Cihanjuang serta memperkuat kesadaran lingkungan di kalangan masyarakat desa. Abstract

With the implementation of the Kurikulum 2006 KTSP, chemistry became part of the science subject that must be taught to junior high school students. In the Kurikulum 2013, the composition of chemistry material in science subjects was further strengthened. Junior high school science teachers are expected to have competencies in the four fields of science, namely Chemistry, Physics, Biology, and Earth and Space Science (IPBA). However, a field survey conducted in the Subang district showed that many science teachers had difficulty teaching science in an integrated manner. This is due to their formal educational backgrounds, most of which come from physics education programs (49 percent) and biology education programs (49 percent), and only a few from chemistry education programs (2 percent). To this day, science is still taught in fragmented ways: chemistry, biology, physics, and IPBA. This causes a mismatch between the implementation and the curriculum demands, which requires science to be taught in an integrated manner. This mismatch is mainly due to the lack of integrated science textbooks. This training program serves as a solution to the scarcity of integrated science teaching materials. The training uses a blended learning system, combining online and face-to-face models. During the face-to-face sessions, participants are given presentations on science integration and the 4STMD-based teaching material development method. Two online meetings are held to guide the progress of teaching material development. The training is conducted for 8 hours per week, totaling 32 hours. The results of this training show that science teachers are highly motivated to develop integrated science teaching materials based on ethnoscience, resulting in several integrated science teaching materials.   Abstrak Dengan diberlakukannya kurikulum KTSP tahun 2006, Ilmu kimia menjadi bagian dari mata pelajaran IPA yang harus diajarkan kepada peserta didik SMP. Pada kurikulum 2013, komposisi materi kimia pada mata pelajaran IPA semakin diperkuat. Guru IPA SMP sudah seharusnya memiliki kemampuan di empat bidang IPA, yaitu Kimia, Fisika, Biologi, dan IPBA. Akan tetapi survey lapangan yang dilakukan di wilayah kabupaten Subang menunjukkan bahwa cukup banyak guru IPA mengalami kesulitan mengajarkan IPA secara terpadu. Hal ini disebabkan oleh latar belakang pendidikan formal mereka yang kebanyakan berasal dari program studi pendidikan fisika (49 persen) dan biologi (49 persen), dan hanya sedikit sekali yang berasal dari program studi pendidikan kimia (2 persen). Sampai saat ini IPA diajarkan secara terpisah-pisah antara IPA kimia, IPA biologi, IPA fisika, dan IPA IPBA. Hal ini yang menyebabkan ketidaksesuaian antara impelentasi dan tuntutan kurikulum, dimana IPA harus diajarkan secara terpadu. Ketidaksesuaian ini disebabkan terutama oleh tidak adanya buku ajar IPA yang disajikan dalam bentuk terpadu. Program pembinaan ini merupakan sebuah solusi bagi kelangkaan bahan ajar IPA terpadu. Pembinaan dilakukan dengan sistem blended learning, yang menggabungkan model daring dan tatap muka. Pada tatap muka diberikan paparan mengenai keterpaduan IPA dan metode pengembangan bahan ajar 4STMD. Dua kali pertemuan dilakukan secara daring untuk memberikan pembinaan progress pengembangan bahan ajar. Pelatihan dilakukan 8 jam per minggu, sehingga seluruhnya 32 jam. Hasil dari pembinaan ini menunjukkan bahwa guru-guru IPA sangat termotivasi untuk mengembangkan bahan ajar IPA terpadu berbasis etnosains, sehingga menghasilkan beberapa bahan ajar IPA terpadu Kata Kunci: 4STMD; bahan ajar; etnosains; IPA terpadu

Abstract

This study aims to determine the level of environmental literacy of students. Research using descriptive quantitative research methods. The respondents of this study were 110 class XII students at SMA Negeri 6 Wajo. The data collection technique uses environmental literacy instruments based on aspects of environmental literacy by NAAEE (North American Association for Environmental Education) consisting of cognitive aspects, attitude, and behavior. Measurement of cognitive aspects using questions while aspects of attitudes and behavior using a questionnaire with a scale Likert. The results showed that the environmental literacy of class XII students at SMA Negeri 6 Wajo as a whole (71.3%) was in the medium category with details of cognitive aspects (50.0%) being in the medium category, attitude aspects (84.1%) being in high category and behavior (78.7%) is in the high category.

Abstract

This study aims to dig up informations about the suitability of creative thinking skill indicators in PjBL student worksheets on reaction rate material in the context of making liquid organic fertilizer from banana peels. The method used in this study is design research at the preliminary research stage and the development or prototyping stage. The preliminary research consisted of analysis of the literature review about project-based learning, creative thinking skills, and liquid organic fertilizer from banana peels. The development of prototyping stage consisted designing project-based student worksheets that designs to develop creative thinking skills and validation process or expert judgement by the validator about the designed worksheets. The results showed that there was a very good suitability (100%) bertween project-based stages and creative thinking skill indicators. There are three indicators of creative thinking skills that can be found in this worksheets, which is fluency thinking, flexibility thinking, and elaboration thinking. This shows that creative thinking skill indicators can be well formulated into project-based student worksheets on reaction rate material

Abstract

Technological and engineering literacy is a capability that must be imparted to students in order to be able to compete globally and be able to solve 21st century problems. This study aims to describe aspects of technological and technical literacy of junior high school students. This type of research is descriptive quantitative analysis. Data were obtained from technological and technical literacy test instruments. The test instrument is adopted from tests issued by NAEP. Data were analyzed quantitatively. The research results show that 69.2% in the complete category, 15.4% in the Partial category and incomplete in the Understanding of Technology Principles aspect. The aspect of Developing Solutions and Achieving Goals as many as 54.8% of students fall into the complete category, 19.2% in the Satisfactory category, 15.4% the Essential category, 7.7% the Partial category, and 26.9% incomplete category. Meanwhile, the Communication and Collaboration aspect, 65.4% were in the complete category, and 34.6% were in the incomplete category. three types of assessment targets in the three main TEL assessment areas, with the most complete category being Gather and Organize data and information, followed by Identification of examples of systems or processes and Representation of alternative analysis and solutions. Science learning involving real experiences and design and engineering processes related to technological principles will make students technologically and engineering literate and can improve students' critical thinking and problem solving abilities.

Abstract

Project-based learning is a global trend, widely adopted across countries. Project-based learning has developed diversely by emphasizing interdisciplinary, cross-domain, and regional collaboration. To provide in-depth resources for researchers and educators on project-based learning in chemistry experiments, this study aims to make a bibliometric analysis on the topic of project-based learning globally using publication characteristics analysis. The database used in this study used Scopus and obtained 5900 articles from 2018-2023. Bibliometric analysis was analyzed using VOSviewer and Microsoft Excel. The results of the bibliometric analysis show that Boone, C.D. is the author with the highest number of citations on the research topic, Project-based learning in a chemistry experiment. The United States is the most productive country in researching this topic, with 1351 articles. The most influential journal with the highest number of articles is the Journal of Physics Conference Series, with 243 articles. The major contextualized learning literatures in this study tend to fall into broad groups such as Project-based Learning, Education, and STEM Education. These findings suggest the need for multidisciplinary and cross-disciplinary studies on project-based learning research on chemistry learning and advocate for the inclusion of project-based learning research in education from a broader geographical context.
