Abstract

Mortuary practices might have represented social stra­tification during the prehistoric period in Bali. Disposal treatment of the decease, burial goods, and containers that were utilized for burials may correspond with social identity and social persona of the deads and their family. This article will explore social stratification on the basis of  burial systems and burial goods that were utilized during the prehistoric period in Bali. Field survey and study on documents have also been done for data collection. In addation, Postprocessual theory has been applied in this study. It seems that global contacts and access for exotic goods might have stimulated the ranked or social stratification during prehistoric period in Bali. Metal objects, which raw materials are absence in Bali, including stone and glass beads, gold foil eye covers that were utilized as burial goods might have represent a status symbol during prehstoric period in Bali. Local elits in Bali utilized material objects as well as burial systems as a symbol for social differentiation and hierarchies in the soceity. Ranked society occurred prior to the apperance of Early State in Bali.

Abstract

Local wisdom based on Hinduism Tri Kaya Parisudha has an important role in the development of tourism in Pedawa Village, North Bali. This article analyzes the role of Tri Kaya Parisudha's values and practices as a spirit of hospitality in increasing the loyalty of tourists to visit Pedawa Village, one of the five ancient villages in Banjar District, Buleleng Regency. This qualitative study begins with data collection with field observations and interviews with thirty foreign and domestic tourists who have visited Pedawa Village more than once. The results showed that the loyalty of returning tourists was due to the friendliness, way of life, way of speaking and acting in the community which made tourists feel comfortable. In addition, it is also due to the uniqueness of the traditional house of Pedawa Village as a tourist attraction. The life habits of the Pedawa people that reflect the values of the Tri Kaya Parisudha have implications not only for the sustainability of tourism villages but also for strengthening the appreciation and practices of Hindu-based local wisdom in Pedawa Village.

Abstract

The villagers of Tenganan Dauh Tukad, Karangasem, Bali conducted aci ketiga or ceremony that occur in May every year. The ceremony mainly conducted by the traditional gentlemen youth organization called sekaa Teruna. During this ceremony the young ladies group or Sekaa daha are not involved. This article explores the ideology why the ceremony were only conducted by sekaa teruna without involving sekaa daha? What is the meaning of aci ketiga for sekaa teruna or youth organization Data are collected using observation, deep interview, and library srudies. Data were analyzed through interpretative qualitatively. Theories of power and kmowledge, ideology and semiotic were applied in this research. The result indicate that saya play dominant roles in aci ketiga ceremony. He has to plan, act, and manage and responsibility the success of the ceremony. Aci ketiga ceremony can be seen as a media to preserve and practice as well as strenghterning the patriarchy ideology at the village of Tenganan Dauh Tukad.

Abstract

The development of spiritual tourism activities in the Ubud Tourism Area based on the Tourism Area Life-Cycle Theory is at consolidation stage, which is seen from the many places that offer spiritual tourism activities both owned by local people and foreigners, resulting in price competition between these businesses.. The purpose of this research are to identify driving factors and implications of spiritual tourism development in the Ubud Tourism Area. This research is a qualitative descriptive study using observation and interviews for data collection methods. The theory used in this research are Contemporary Spiritual and Alternative Tourism Theory to explain the driving factors and implications sustainability resulting from spiritual tourism activities development related to. The driving factors include internal factors such as history and education as popular goals, external factors such as capitalism, world travel trends, and demand. Implications of this are implications for environmental, such as the conversion of residents' settlements and land conversion, for socio-cultural, such as changes in the consumption patterns of local people and revitalization of local spiritual activities, and for the economic, such as increased employment, increased income for spiritual service businesses, and increased ownership of local tourism businesses, where these implications require supervision by stakeholders so that they remain sustainable and provide optimal local communities benefits.Keywords: Implications, Spiritual Tourism, Ubud Tourism Area.

Abstract

As a tourism destination in the world, Bali attracts many tourists to visit because of its tourist attractions and culture. One form of Balinese cultural products is Balinese endek, a traditional Balinese fabric comes in a myriad of beautiful colors and geometrical designs. The experience of weaving Balinese Endek is the phenomenon of commodification in its essence as a creative industry. The author uses this paper to be able to critically examine the Balinese Endek function with a culture studies approach in relation to the use of endek in the tourism sector. The instrument for analyzing this paper is using the commodification theory, which is explaining about something that is not related to the production process into a product that is consumed in bulk, yet is related to how a product is marketed to the target market in order to meet consumer needs.The methodology used in examining the phenomenon of the commodification of Balinese endek is a critical method that is emancipatory in nature, namely the involvement of producers or weavers and business people (who are involved in the tourism industry). The results of this paper are: (1) The symbolic meaning that is typical of Balinese Endek is an attraction and has the potential to attract tourists, thus helping to improve the economy of the Balinese people. (2) The dynamics of Balinese Endek marketing in the market are in demand by the local market as well as the global market as a creative product. Abstract

This study discusses the commodification of local wisdom in health sector as the attraction of wellness tourism in Ubud Tourism Area. This research addresses the problem about the forms of commodification of local wisdom in health sector as an attraction of wellness tourism in Ubud Tourism Area. The method used to analyse the data is descriptive qualitative method with qualitative data. Types of data used are primary and secondary data with data collection techniques such as in-depth interviews, observations, documentations and literature studies. Based on the results of this study it can be explained that the development of commodification of local wisdom in health sector as a health tourism attraction in the Ubud Tourism Area occurs in the form of commercialisation, profanisasi and modernisation. Commercialisation is identified in the form of place arrangement, product packaging and marketing. Then the profanisation occurs causes the decline in the sacred value of local wisdom into economic-oriented activities. Modernisation also has changed the local wisdom into modernised products.

Abstract

Penelitian ini menganalisis produk usaha aromaterapi sebagai salah satu industri kreatif diyakini berkorelasi positif dengan pengembangan pariwisata karena melalui produk usaha aromaterapi rempah-rempah tradisional diperkenalkan kepada wisatawan nusantara dan mancanegara. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif yang menerapkan teori persepsi dan teori pariwisata berkelanjutan serta beberapa teori pendukung. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengetahui jenis-jenis produk, pemanfaatan jenis rempah-rempah pada produk, dan persepsi wisatawan terhadap produk aromaterapi Utama Spice Aromatherapy. Pengumpulan data penelitian ini melalui penyebaran 25 kuesioner yang diisi oleh pelanggan perusahaan tersebut. Analisis data berdasar pada teori persepsi dan teori pariwisata berkelanjutan. Hasil analisis data dipresentasikan secara deskriptif naratif dan juga dalam bentuk tabel. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa jenis-jenis produk aromaterapi Utama Spice Aromateraphy sangat beragam mulai dari perawatan untuk rambut, wajah, dan tubuh. Persepsi wisatawan terhadap produk aromaterapi Utama Spice Aromateraphy cukup baik dan diminati oleh konsumen dalam hal ini wisatawan karena produk yang berbahan dasar alam yang berkualitas sehingga aman digunakan.

Abstract

Heritage tourism is a tourism that utilizes heritage or historical heritage as tourist attractions. The existence of heritage for Denpasar is regarded as the theme of tourism development in the future. Nowadays, the existence of heritage sites are more neglected and abandoned due to the modernization effect. In fact, if it is managed and organized properly, it will contribute many positive benefits. This research analyses two research problems focusing on the existing condition of Denpasar city as heritage tourism. Besides, it is by planning the heritage tourism model in Denpasar city. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The informants were chosen by base informants and snowball technique. Concepts used in discussing this research are the development model of tourism concept, urban tourism concept, and the heritage tourism concept. The theories used for this research is destination area life cycle. According to the results of the discussion, it can be concluded that, the existence of cultural heritage in Denpasar city is started to be explored and improved along with the objective and benefits owned by each heritage. The development model of heritage tourism which is now planned in Denpasar city comprises daily activity heritage tour.

Abstract

The paradigm of developing alternative tourism is a development option for Bali Aga village as a tourism village. This paper aims at investigating form of alternative tourism implementation in Bali Aga Village valued by its tourist activities. This research focuses on tourist aspects including the importance of culture, motives for travelling (what they do on holiday and how they feel and behave) such as participating with the local people making bamboo weaving, they felt like family members. Because of the interaction that makes tourists and local people very closely filled with a sense of kinship. The importance of this research is to determine how much the characteristics of alternative tourism have been implemented in Bali Aga village. This research is a qualitative research. Data were taken by administering purposive sampling technique. The results of the study are used as a basis for describing the application of alternative tourism concepts in two villages of Bali Aga, namely Pedawa Village and Sidatapa Village, Buleleng Regency. The study shows that (1) tourists really like the culture that is owned by the community, (2) the purpose of visiting tourists does have a purpose to get to know the culture of the community and be involved in people's lives; (3) visiting tourists live in the home of the Bali Aga village community. Thus, the totality of community involvement as actors of tourist service providers has been able to show the main characteristics of alternative tourism.

Abstract

This article examines the agreement and consensus between Kedewatan as a pakraman (a traditional village) in Ubud, Bali, Indonesia and hotel investors. It is done as a qualitative approach and analyzed by using two theories of critical cultural studies, namely the communicative action of Jurgen Habermas and the theory of hegemony by Antonio Gramsci. Data are obtained through observation, document studies, and in-depth interviews. The results of this study found three consensuses between Kedewatan villagers and hotel investors. First, the formal legal investment consensus that has an agreement in the form of the contribution of the hotel investor during the investment in Kedewatan Village. Second, the social consensus is the agreement of Kedewatan and hotel investors to employ the local community of Kedewatan Village as hotel employees in accordance with their competencies. Third, the cultural consensus is the agreement of both parties to appreciate the local culture and wisdom of local people to be adopted by the hotel investors who set up their business in Kedewatan Village
