Abstract

Abstract Inscription is a written record which contains regulation or law and should be obeyed by officers or functionaries and community in general. Sapatha or curse was normally written at the end of the inscription which states the punishment for those who objected the regulations or laws. People punished morally if they objected the regulations or law include seven times to be reincarnated and surfering in all their lives. Sapatha or curse was seen as a discourse in relation of power and knowledge of the kings who reigned in the Old Balinese period. This article explores the sapatha or curse in Old Balinese inscriptions dated from the IX up to XIV century. The aim of this article is to describe the relationship of power and knowledge, as well as discipline and punishment in ancient Bali. Data was gained through documentary studies and interpreted hermeneutically. Theories of ideology, knowledge and power, as well as discipline and punishment will be applied in this article.

Abstract

The hill of the Kintamani area with its misty natural conditions and cold nature makes it unique interms of religion and society, in contrast to the plains that are dominated by Hindu influence andclose to the aristocratic system. In the western part of Kintamani, there is Selulung Traditionalvillage which is still strong with a dualistic world view regarding its beliefs, socio-religions, andrituals. Belief in ancestors with the existence of Pura Kanginan-Kauhan, Palinggih Rong Kalih,Palinggih Dewa Hyang Kembar. A dualistic socio-religious system exists in the village eldercouncil called Ulu Apad which is divided into two, namely kiwa-tengen, sigar kanginan-sigarkauhan. Apart from that, there are also social rituals that are dualistic, such as the nyeheb rite, a riteasking for rain to the gods of the sky. This signifies a dualistic relationship between earth-heaven.

Abstract

Local wisdom based on Hinduism Tri Kaya Parisudha has an important role in the development of tourism in Pedawa Village, North Bali. This article analyzes the role of Tri Kaya Parisudha's values and practices as a spirit of hospitality in increasing the loyalty of tourists to visit Pedawa Village, one of the five ancient villages in Banjar District, Buleleng Regency. This qualitative study begins with data collection with field observations and interviews with thirty foreign and domestic tourists who have visited Pedawa Village more than once. The results showed that the loyalty of returning tourists was due to the friendliness, way of life, way of speaking and acting in the community which made tourists feel comfortable. In addition, it is also due to the uniqueness of the traditional house of Pedawa Village as a tourist attraction. The life habits of the Pedawa people that reflect the values of the Tri Kaya Parisudha have implications not only for the sustainability of tourism villages but also for strengthening the appreciation and practices of Hindu-based local wisdom in Pedawa Village.
