Abstract

Fish need a specific environment as a habitat to grow and develop. Environmental conditions can change, so this becomes a challenge for fish to maintain homeostasis in the fish's body. Two factors influence the physiological condition of fish, namely internal and external factors. Information regarding fish physiology is needed as one of the factors that are the centre of attention in proper cultivation to support the productivity of commercial fish cultivation. Environmental changes such as pollution significantly affect the physiological condition of fish, and supplementing fish food can also support the fish's body metabolism. This article review study describes important factors that can influence the physiological response of fish and provides three case studies of commercially farmed fish when exposed to toxic substances or the provision of organic substances in feed. The data used is secondary data using journals from previous research and grouping topics regarding environmental factors and case studies on grouper fish in the Serranidae family.

Abstract

Comparison of the length, weight and condition factor of Nila Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) was studied on oligotrophic waters (Wonorejo Reservoir) conducted from July to August 2018 and eutrophic waters (Selorejo Reservoir) on February to March 2019. All of the reservoir are in the East Java, Indonesia. The total sample from Wonorejo Reservoir about 79 fish from 3 times sampling (every two weeks), but the fish Sample from Selorejo Reservoir are 35 from 4 times sampling every week. The Nila Tilapia from Wonorejo Reservoir are 15.3 ± 2.5 cm (length) and 74.6 ± 38.6 grams (weight) but fish from Selorejo are 17.8 ± 2.2 cm average length and 114 ± 35 grams for the weight. The condition factor of Nila Tilapia in both reservoirs was relatively the same, with an average value was 1.01. The Nila Tilapia caught from Selorejo Reservoir (eutrophic) is relatively heavier and bigger than in the Wonorejo Reservoir (oligotrophic) even though the hook size is smaller. Fish from the Selorejo Reservoir (eutrophic) is easier to get food so that the average fish is larger.

Abstract

Lead is a kind of non-essential heavy metals included in the metal causing environmental pollution with persistent properties that might harm the consumers. This study aimed to determine the best method for reducing the lead level on the freshwater snail Filopaludina javanica using three various water treatment models. Soaking water treatment (6h, 12h, 18h, 24h), flowing water treatment (6h, 12h, 18h, 24h), and refreshing water treatment (6h, 12h, 24h). The lead level assay in both samples used Atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS), and the physical and chemical parameters were measured, such as temperature, pH, and Dissolved Oxygen (DO). The lowest value of lead content on freshwater’s soft body snail and water sample respectively were soaking water treatment at 6h (0.64 ± 0.02 mg L-1) and 24h (0.0045 ± 0.0015 mg L-1); flowing water treatment at 24h (0.04 ± 0.007 mg L-1) and 18h (0.0036 ± 0.0009 mg L-1) and; refreshing water treatment at 24h (0.150 ± 0.011) and 12h (0.007 ± 0.001), with control 0.072 ± 0.00 mg L-1 and 0.067 ± 0.00 mg L-1. Therefore, the most effective model to reduce the lead content was flowing water treatment within 24h in the freshwater soft body snail and 18h in the water sample.

Abstract

Mangrove ecosystems are important for maintaining ecological balance in coastal areas. To monitor changes in mangrove area and density, remote sensing technology with Landsat 8 and NDVI Index was used. The research focuses on the North Coast of East Java, from 2019-2024, on the coast of Surabaya, Sidoarjo, Pasuruan, Probolinggo, and Situbondo. The purpose of this study is to analyze changes in mangrove area and density. The survey method was conducted with Landsat 8 images and in situ data in 2024. There are 5 observation station points with the determination of station points using purposive sampling technique. Accuracy test using RMSE. The area of mangroves on the coast of Surabaya, Sidoarjo and Pasuruan from 2019 to 2024 ranged from 1611.88 ha-2270.41 ha. The highest cover area was in 2024 and the lowest in 2019. Mangroves with sparse NDVI category ranged from 46640.61 ha-53284.95 ha. Moderate NDVI ranged from 4313.25 ha-6984.72 ha and dense NDVI ranged from 493.29 ha-4711.5 ha. The area of mangroves on the coast of Probolinggo and Situbondo increased from 2019-2024, which amounted to 1487.05 ha-1885.79 ha. Mangroves with sparse NDVI category have an area between 51367.12 ha-54852.64 ha. Moderate NDVI ranged from 5564.87 ha-54852.64 ha and high NDVI ranged from 668.18 ha-1585.52 ha. The results show that there are changes in the area and density of mangroves on the north coast of East Java every year. These changes need to be monitored annually to address the decline in mangrove area and density quickly and appropriately.

Abstract

Udang vaname merupakan biota budidaya yang sangat rentan terhadap lingkungan sekitarnya. Kondisi kualitas air yang tidak ideal dapat mengakibatkan udang mengalami stress dan menghambat pertumbuhannya. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menentukan dosis yang tepat dari pemberian fermentasi bekatul dan EM4 sebagai probiotik berdasarkan dampaknya terhadap perbaikan kualitas air kolam budidaya udang vaname. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan mengaplikasikan 3 perlakuan berbeda terdiri dari kontrol, perlakuan 1 dengan dosis fermentasi bekatul 25 g dan EM4 10 ml dan perlakuan 2 dengan dosis fermentasi bekatul 50 g dan EM4 20 ml. Parameter kualitas air yang diukur sebanyak tujuh yaitu suhu, oksigen terlarut, pH, nitrat, nitrit, ammonia, dan fosfat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kondisi kualitas air kolam udang cukup ideal dan perlakuan 1 dengan dosis fermentasi bekatul 25 g dan EM4 10 ml secara konsisten lebih unggul dalam memperbaiki kondisi kualitas air dibandingkan dengan perlakuan lainnya.   Vannamei shrimp are cultured biota that are very vulnerable to the surrounding environment. Water quality conditions that are not ideal can cause shrimp to experience stress and inhibit their growth. This study aimed to determine the appropriate dose of fermented rice bran and EM4 as probiotics based on their impact on improving the water quality of vannamei shrimp culture ponds. This study was conducted by applying 3 different treatments consisting of control, treatment 1 with fermented rice bran dose of 25 g and EM4 10 ml and treatment 2 with fermented rice bran dose of 50 g and EM4 20 ml. Seven water quality parameters were measured, temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, nitrate, nitrite, ammonia, and phosphate. The results showed that the water quality conditions of shrimp ponds were quite ideal and treatment 1 with a fermentation dose of 25 g rice bran and 10 ml EM4 was consistently superior in improving water quality conditions compared to other treatments.

Abstract

Pengolahan limbah cair sisa budidaya udang di tambak perlu dilakukan sebelum air limbah tersebut masuk ke perairan umum. Dalam proses penurunan bahan organik selalu diperoleh kadar CO2 yang tinggi bahkan melebihi ambang batas untuk perairan umum. Tujuan dari kegiatan ini yaitu untuk mendapatkan kadar bahan organik terendah dan mengetahui kepadatan terbaik dari mikroalga (Chlorella sp.) yang dapat menurunkan kadar CO2 sampai tingkat terendah dengan waktu tercepat. Metode penelitian adalah RAL dengan 6 perlakuan , 2 kontrol dan 3 ulangan. Masing-masing bak perlakuan diisi 4 liter air (sisa Budidaya Udang Vaname selama 118 hari) dan di tambahkan konsorsium bakteri 3 gram/L lalu ditambahkan mikroalga dengan kepadatan 104 sel/ml, 105 sel/ml dan 106 sel/ml. Pengamatan fisika kimia air dan mikroalga dilakukan setiap 6 jam selama 72 jam. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan semua perlakuan mengalami penurunan bahan organik yang nilainya hampir sama dengan kontrol. Kadar karbondioksida mengalami penurunan dari kadar 11,88 mg/ L menjadi 0 mg/L setelah 72 jam. Kadar bahan organik mengalami penurunan dari 39.2 mg/l menjadi 0.2 mg/l setelah 54 jam. Selama penelitian suhu berkisar antara 23 - 26°C, pH 7 - 9, oksigen terlarut 6,0 – 9,3 mg/l, salinitas 10 – 13 mg/l. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa bahan organik dapat menurun sampai dengan 99,7 % setelah 54 jam dan CO2 dapat menurun sampai 100 % setelah 72 jam. Apabila diperlukan penambahan mikroalga untuk membantu menurunkan kadar CO2, maka disarankan menggunakan kepadatan mikroalga 106 sel/ml atau 55.5 ml/L agar tidak terjadi blooming mikroalga di perairan umum.

Abstract

Air limbah tambak udang yang akan dibuang ke perairan umum harus memenuhi baku mutu yang berlaku agar tidak mencemari perairan setempat. Manajemen limbah budidaya yang baik merupakan salah satu cara yang dapat dilakukan. Penambahan konsorsium bakteri dan aerasi diduga mampu mempercepat penurunan bahan organik pada air limbah. Tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah untuk mendapatkan penurunan kadar bahan organik dan kadar karbondioksida terbanyak dengan waktu tersingkat pada air sisa budidaya udang vaname (Litopenaeus vannamei) dengan penambahan konsorsium bakteri dan aerasi. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu metode eksperimen. Rancangan penelitian disusun dalam rancangan acak lengkap menggunakan 6 perlakuan yakni perlakuan aerasi, tanpa aerasi, tutupan, kontrol aerasi, kontrol tanpa aerasi, dan kontrol tutupan dengan 4 kali ulangan. Berdasarkan uji Tukey hasil terbaik dalam penurunan bahan organik didapatkan pada perlakuan tutupan dengan penambahan konsorsium bakteri pada jam ke-30 yang mengalami penurunan 99,34%, kadar bahan organik awal 61 mg/L menjadi 0,4 mg/L. Penurunan kadar karbondioksida tercepat yakni pada perlakuan penambahan aerasi dan konsorsium bakteri pada jam ke-186 dapat menurunkan kadar karbondioksida (dari kadar awal 29,6 mg/L menjadi 0 mg/L). Kualitas air dapat mempengaruhi kerja dari bakteri yang menguraikan bahan organik dan menghasilkan karbondioksida. Penurunan kadar bahan organik terbanyak dengan waktu tersingkat yakni dengan perlakuan tutupan pada jam ke-30, dan penurunan karbondioksida terbanyak dengan waktu tersingkat dengan perlakuan aerasi pada jam ke-186.

Abstract

Kediri Regency is a non-coastal area, so only a few school students know about Aquatic Invertebrates. Generally, they only know through pictures or electronic information. The purpose of this activity is to increase literacy by directly introducing students to the diversity of marine biota (aquatic invertebrates) in order to foster environmental awareness from an early age. The methods used include interactive lectures, observations of original specimens, and evaluation of understanding through educational games. The activity was carried out on November 9, 2024 and was attended by 37 students in grades 4-6. This activity showcased various types of aquatic invertebrates from the Phylum Mollusca, Phylum Arthropoda, Phylum Coelenterata and Phylum Echinodermata. The results of observations showed that students were enthusiastic and showed an increase in understanding with a success rate of more than 90% in oral evaluations. This program has proven effective in building students' interest in science and environmental conservation, especially related to fisheries (aquatic invertebrates). This activity has a positive impact on strengthening contextual-based education and can be replicated in other non-coastal areas.ABSTRAKWilayah Kabupaten Kediri merupakan daerah non-pesisir, sehingga hanya sedikit siswa sekolah yang mengenal hewan Avertebrata Air. Umumnya mereka hanya mengetahui melalui gambar atau informasi secara elektronik. Tujuan kegiatan ini adalah meningkatkan literasi dengan mengenalkan secara langsung kepada siswa mengenai keanekaragaman biota laut (avertebrata air) guna menumbuhkan kesadaran terhadap lingkungan sejak dini. Metode yang digunakan meliputi ceramah interaktif, pengamatan spesimen asli, serta evaluasi pemahaman melalui permainan edukatif. Kegiatan dilaksanakan pada 9 November 2024 dan diikuti oleh 37 siswa kelas 4–6. Kegiatan ini memamerkan aneka macam hewan avertebrata air dari Phylum Molusca, Phylum Arthropoda, Phylum Coelenterata dan Phylum Echinodermata. Hasil pengamatan menunjukkan bahwa siswa antusias dan menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman dengan tingkat keberhasilan lebih dari 90% pada evaluasi lisan. Program ini terbukti efektif dalam membangun ketertarikan siswa terhadap sains dan pelestarian lingkungan, khusunya terkait perikanan (avertebrata air). Kegiatan ini memberikan dampak positif terhadap penguatan pendidikan berbasis kontekstual dan dapat direplikasi di daerah non-pesisir lainnya.

Abstract

Rivers are vital freshwater habitats that face threats of degradation and climate change. Mahseer fish, a key species, is in decline. This study predicted Mahseer fish habitats in Central Java using the Google Earth Engine and the MaxEnt machine learning algorithm. Environmental predictors, including NDVI, elevation, slope, river order, temperature, and rainfall, were extracted from Sentinel, SRTM, MODIS, and CHIRPS data. The model identified river order as the most influential variable (73%), followed by elevation (18%) and rainfall (8%), with an AUC score of 0.7, indicating fair accuracy. Suitable habitats were located in upstream river orders (1–3), typically at higher elevations. These findings provide spatial guidance for conservation planning, such as identifying critical habitats, prioritizing upstream areas, and establishing seasonal fishing ban. This approach supports biodiversity protection and aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals by offering a scalable tool for freshwater ecosystem management. Using MaxEnt with GEE shows promise for rapid, and cost-effective species distribution modeling in data-limited tropical regions.

Abstract

Pasuruan Regency is a major industrial center in Indonesia where their heavy metal industrial waste accompanied by  , household waste, and agricultural activities polluted  Pasuruan waters. The purpose of this study was to determine the status of heavy metal pollution in the Pasuruan sea in the coastal areas of Kraton, Lekok and Nguling and to find out how to overcome it. The survey method was used in this study to analyze the levels of heavy metals (Hg, Pb, Cd) in the waters and calculate the water pollution status based on the pollution index and water quality. Water sampling is carried out at a depth of between 2-15 meters at 3 stationary lift nets (Bagan tancap) at each location. The results showed that the highest levels of heavy metals were found in Lekok waters. The results of the calculation of the pollution index (IP) show that Lekok water has a heavy pollution status for all types of heavy metals (Hg, Pb, Cd). The pollution status in Nguling and Kraton waters based on the Hg and Cd pollution index is classified as heavily polluted. Meanwhile, heavy metal levels of Pb still meet water quality standards. The results of measurements of temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, salinity, and current velocity are classified as optimum for aquatic biota. Based on the research results, it is known that there are areas of Pasuruan waters that are heavily polluted. Therefore, better water quality management is needed to meet the needs of biota by planting Rizhophora mucronata mangroves.
