Abstract

The objective of this research is to develop an Internet of Things (IoT)-based temperature, humidity, and fire detection control system to monitor server rooms at INSTIKI. The research methodology employed involved the collection of primary data through interviews and observations, as well as secondary data through a comprehensive literature review. The system is implemented using a variety of electronic components, including the NodeMCU ESP32, the DHT22 sensor, the MQ2 gas sensor, the KY-026 flame sensor, the PZEM-004t sensor, the infrared emitter LED, the 20x4 I2C LCD, the buzzer, the 5V modules adapters, the step-down modules, and the SIM800l modules. The findings of this study illustrate that the devised system is effective in monitoring temperature, humidity, smoke, fire, and electricity in the INSTIKI server room. The monitoring data is displayed via a web platform, while warning notifications are sent via SMS and Telegram in the event of dangerous situations, resulting in a 100% success rate for notification delivery. The testing of the air conditioning temperature controls using SMS also achieved a 100% success rate. However, the efficacy of the IR Remote is contingent upon the distance and position of the Infrared Emitter LED in relation to the AC's receiver sensors, as well as the quality of the signal received by the GSM800l module.

Abstract

Waste classification is one of the interesting topics for classifications in which data can be very varied and complex. This data diversity is a challenge to develop a model that is able to classify well. The purpose of this study is to analyze the performance of the pre-trained deep learning model using a data augmentation approach. There are three pre-training models used in this study, namely residual networks 50 (ResNet50), visual geometric group with 16 layers (VGG-16), and MobileNetV2. The results showed that the MobileNetV2 model received the highest accuracy value, reaching 84.45% for data without augmentation. With data augmentation there is a decrease of 2.73%. Conversely, VGG-16 shows performance stability with an increase in accuracy with augmentation data, reaching 75.84%. While ResNet50 gets the lowest results compared to both models. The application of data augmentation techniques with the aim of increasing data variations does not always have an impact on increasing the generalization of the model.

Abstract

The starter system is a vital component in the main engine starting process on a ship, so its reliability is an important factor in ensuring smooth sailing operations. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of implementing preventive maintenance in improving the performance of the main engine starter system on a passenger ship. The study was conducted on the XYZ ship using a descriptive method through direct observation and interviews with the engineer officer. Data obtained included the physical condition of the battery, cable path, solenoid, and internal components of the starter dynamo, then analyzed based on performance parameters before and after preventive maintenance. The results showed several major problems, including heavy starter rotation, rapid battery voltage drop, loose cable connections, and damage to the solenoid. After implementing preventive maintenance such as adding battery water, cleaning terminals, tightening cable connections, and internal maintenance of the starter, there was a significant increase in engine starting speed, battery voltage stability, and starter response. The frequency of previously frequent problems also decreased drastically. The conclusion of this study is that preventive maintenance is proven to be effective in improving starter system performance, reducing the risk of starting failure, and supporting the smooth and safe operation of the ship as a whole. Implementation of scheduled preventive maintenance is recommended to ensure long-term reliability of the starter system.

Abstract

Energy efficiency in small-scale fishing boats has become a critical issue due to their high dependence on fossil fuels, rising operational costs, and environmental impacts. Fishing boats less than 5 GT generally operate with fluctuating engine loads, potentially reducing energy conversion performance. This study aims to analyze the energy conversion efficiency of fishing boats operating in Bali Province. The research method uses a descriptive-quantitative approach through field studies. Primary data were obtained from measurements of fuel consumption, engine power and speed, electrical load, and operating duration at each stage of the boat's activities, while secondary data came from technical documents and operational logbooks. Efficiency analysis was conducted by comparing the input energy from diesel fuel and the output energy in the form of mechanical and electrical energy. The results show that energy consumption is dominated by the propulsion system, especially during the cruising phase. The total energy conversion efficiency is still relatively low, ranging from 22%–30%, and decreases during the maneuvering and fishing phases due to partial engine loads. These findings suggest that improvements in operational efficiency and engine maintenance are needed to reduce fuel consumption, reduce operational costs, and support the aspirations of small-scale fishing.

Abstract

Electrical energy consumption in aeration systems represents a major component of operational costs, primarily due to the low power factor of inductive equipment such as blowers. This study evaluates the effectiveness of capacitor banks in improving energy efficiency and their economic feasibility in small- to medium-scale aquaculture aeration systems. Over 90 days, measurements were conducted on energy consumption, current, voltage, and water quality parameters, including dissolved oxygen (DO) and pH in two systems: without and with capacitor banks. The results showed that the use of capacitor banks reduced daily energy consumption from 15.01 ± 0.45 kWh to 13.13 ± 0.45 kWh (savings of 12.51%), equivalent to approximately 56.4 kWh per month or 686.2 kWh per year. The average current decreased from 2.44 A to 1.88 A, while voltage, DO (6.50-6.64 mg/L), and pH (7.20-7.25) remained stable within the optimal range. Economic analysis revealed that an initial investment of IDR 1,500,000 has a payback period of 18 months, a net present value (NPV) of IDR 2.15-2.33 million (at 8% discount rate), and an internal rate of return (IRR) exceeding 50% per year. These findings demonstrate that the application of capacitor banks not only enhances energy efficiency and reduces power losses but is also highly feasible and profitable for practical adoption in aquaculture operations.

Abstract

Cold storage plays a crucial role in preserving temperature-sensitive products, particularly in the fisheries and food sectors. However, its operation is highly energy-intensive and often constrained by unstable electricity supply in many Indonesian regions. This study quantitatively evaluates a hybrid renewable energy system integrating photovoltaic (PV) panels, diesel generators, batteries, and the utility grid to ensure sustainable cold storage operations. Using measured load profiles, solar irradiation data, and annual operating costs, the system achieved a 60% reduction in diesel fuel consumption, 30-50% lower CO₂ emissions, and annual savings exceeding IDR 100 million compared to conventional generator-based systems. The system demonstrated 83.5% overall efficiency, with a payback period of 4.4 years and a positive net present value (NPV), confirming its economic viability. The novelty of this research lies in presenting the first comprehensive techno-economic analysis of a PV-diesel-battery-grid hybrid system specifically designed for fisheries-based cold storage facilities in Indonesia, considering local solar potential and grid reliability. Despite its feasibility, implementation challenges remain, including a lack of skilled technicians, limited financial incentives, and bureaucratic constraints. To overcome this, the study recommends PV subsidies, low-interest green loans, and public–private partnerships aligned with Indonesia's energy transition roadmap and cold chain development goals.
