Abstract

Cyberfeminism is a phenomenon of feminist groups adapting to developments in technology, information, and communication. This phenomenon of existence is quite attractive in itself, as is how this feminist group struggles to defend their rights, especially their activities in the cyber world. The aims of this research are (1) The Rise of Women in Global Civilization, (2) Critique of Patriarchal Culture, (3) Posthuman Thinking. Posthumanism has begun to be implemented. The research method uses a qualitative type of content analysis whose data comes from five Arab feminist blog sources. This data is collected through documentation techniques and analysed using the Milles & Huberman analysis style. The results show that (1) feminist women experience development in achievements and a consistent environment for society, (2) feminist groups still carry out protests against patriarchal culture, (3) Arab feminist women can adapt to the technological, information, and communication environment in voice their arguments. This research introduces a new perspective on the critique of patriarchy, often associated with anarchic acts, demonstrations, or other threatening behaviors. Through the lens of cyberfeminism, the study highlights that criticism of patriarchal culture can be expressed positively and constructively. Data collected from various news sources illustrate actions that are appreciated by society, such as achievements, independence, and innovative breakthroughs. Consequently, this critique is no longer perceived as a threat but rather as a meaningful effort that drives change and gains broad acceptance.

Abstract

Earthquakes occur when tectonic plates beneath the earth's surface shift due to pressure accumulated in rocks, releasing kinetic energy and causing earthquake waves. This study analyzes the potential risk of earthquake hazards using the Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Analysis (PSHA) method which is based on the calculation of the probability of earthquake occurrence and vibration intensity using data from 3 sources of subduction earthquakes, faults and background earthquake sources in the Malang Raya research area which is geographically located in the Indonesian archipelago with an active collision zone of the Indo-Australian plate with the Eurasian plate. Research processing uses Zmap and R Crisis software. The results of the study show that peak ground acceleration has a value on the bedrock ranging from 0.169 g to 0.255 g. The ground acceleration spectrum at T = 0.2 seconds ranges from 0.288 g to 0.464 g, while at T = 1 second ranges from 0.150 g to 0.275 g. The distribution of PGAm values on the surface ranges from 0.174 g to 0.273 g, and the ground acceleration spectrum at T = 0.2 seconds ranges from 0.302g to 0.551g, while at T = 1 second it ranges from 0.151 g to 0.284 g. The area that shows the highest earthquake vulnerability value is around the southern coast of Malang Raya because it is close to the earthquake source. The northern region experiences an increase in the acceleration spectrum value due to its proximity to the source of the fault earthquake and several other geophysical factors.

Abstract

Modernity can erode traditional values, particularly religion. Local religions often reflect community cultural values more prominently, resulting in stronger traditional aspects than mainstream religions. This research investigates the educational principles established by Madrais, the founder of the Javanese-Sundanese Religion (Agama Djawa-Soenda/ADS), aimed at the indigenous population regarding resistance to modernity. Central to ADS is the promotion of harmony with the natural environment. Nevertheless, this principle can also be examined through the lens of resistance to modernity and the potential imposition of external values that may jeopardize the integrity of their traditional beliefs, including foreign religions. Viewed in this context, ADS represents a dual commitment to environmental sustainability and safeguarding traditional cultural values. The analytical framework is grounded in value education theory and the theory of modernity rationalization. Data for this study were collected through a literature review of manuscripts authored by Madrais, alongside interviews with prominent figures within the ADS community. The findings indicate that the teachings of ADS inherently reflect a robust resistance to modernity. This resistance is particularly evident in three key tenets: rejecting all forms of colonialism, encouraging harmony with nature and returning to authentic human identity, and the imperative to honor and protect customs and traditions. These three principles are interconnected and share a common underlying ethos. This study highlights the importance of providing insights into the traditional aspects of local religions as a strong foundation for preserving traditions amidst the onslaught of modernity.

Abstract

The news media's depiction of women tends to produce various perceptions that are negative, positive, or neutral. That statement is displayed based on language and word sorting in expressing each event. This study aims to reveal the portrait of women in Republika online news media based on corpus linguistic analysis. This research data is in the form of text from Republika online news media. This research uses descriptive quantitative and qualitative approaches. News texts formatted and converted to the UTF-8 text encoding standard are then analyzed with AntConc software to reveal linguistic features. The results show the analysis of three linguistic features: word frequency, collocation, and concordance. First, the frequency of occurrence of the word significantly displays fairly common news with narrative writing that prioritizes the position of women as the subject. Secondly, collocation analysis tends to collocate with nouns representing actions, events, or states. Third, concordance analysis tends to have a positive conclusion, preserving crucial issues in reality.

Abstract

Abstract. Modernization had a significant impact on environmental change. This change is described in the novel “Baitun Nakhil” and studied by using ecocritical theory. Ecocriticism is a way to describe the relationship between humans and nature in all cultural environments. This study aims to identify ecological narratives related to environmental change as the modernization impact in the novel “Baitun Nakhil” by Tarek Eltayeb based on Garrard’s ecocritical perspective. This study is qualitative descriptive. The data used are narratives and dialogue in the novel “Baitun Nakhil”. Data were collected by reading and note-taking techniques. Data were validated by increasing persistence, triangulation, and discussion. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman method, which consists of three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results of the study are the discovery of environmental change as a modernization impact in several scopes according to Garrard as follows: 1) pastoral narratives in the form of spatial and temporal distinction; 2) pollution caused by cigarettes and sirens; 3) wilderness as in mountains and forest; 4) natural disasters in the form of a snowstorm; 5) dwelling adopts the georgic concept as in Wad Al-Kababish; 6) relation between animals and human as shown by the treatment of animals and imitation of bird sounds; and 7) earth changes initiated by the plastic usage and the construction of greenhouse as conservation efforts. This study proves that modernization destroys nature due to the massive exploitation of natural resources. Conversely, modernization makes it easier to campaign and conserve nature with its sophisticated technology. Keywords: Ecocriticism, Environmental Change, Greg Garrard, Modernization, Novel

Abstract

This study aims to determine the framing patterns used by international media, especially France24 and Al-Hurroh, in reporting the conflict related to the death of one of Hamas' main leaders, Yahya Sinwar, due to Israeli airstrikes in Gaza. This research used a qualitative content analysis approach based on the framing theory developed by William A Gamson. The data were obtained from news articles that discussed the Sinwar death incident and Hamas' response to the event. The results of the analysis show that the framing devices in the reporting of Yahya Sinwar's death in both France24 and Al-Hurroh media consist of metaphors, catchphrases, examples, depictions, and visual images. In contrast, the reasoning device consists of a root, appeal to principle and consequences. The use of these framing and reasoning devices shows that in the reporting of Yahya Sinwar's death, there are differences in framing patterns that affect how information is conveyed and perceived. France24 frames events in a strategic and political context, while Al-Hurroh builds more fact-based narratives. The findings underscore the different framing approaches by the two media outlets that can influence readers' perceptions of the Hamas-Israel conflict and potentially shape public opinion and global policy on Middle East issues.

Abstract

As women play an important role in shaping the character of a quality generation, women’s empowerment is an investment for a better future. This study aims to; 1) reveal women’s subjectivity in Juliet Mitchell’s feminist psychoanalysis perspective; 2) analyze the role of women’s empowerment reflected to female characters; and 3) explore the dynamics between social structure, culture, and psychology of female characters in the novel Zeina by Nawal El Saadawi This research uses a descriptive-qualitative method. The data source of this research is the novel “Zeina” by Nawal El Saadawi and complemented by theoretical and other references that have relevance. Data collection techniques use translation, reading and note-taking techniques. Data analysis techniques use the Miles and Huberman models. The results of this study show that; 1) the subjectivity of female characters in the novel “Zeina” includes; identity differences, resilience and self-formation, internal and external conflicts, and struggles for emancipation and freedom 2) The role of empowerment reflected in female characters, includes; women becoming entertainers, women becoming magazine leaders, and women becoming literary critics as well as department heads. 3) The dynamics that occur between social, cultural, and psychological structures of female characters are; the influence of trauma in identity formation, identity reconstruction, and identity transformation through trauma healing. This research confirms that women can empower themselves, even in a patriarchal environment. Empowerment through education, employment, and psychological support is important as a foundation for women’s role as agents of change.
