Abstract

It is known that some schools in Serang City are still not optimal in empowering students' Higher Order Thinking Skill (HOTS) habits and tend to lead to the C1 - C3 cognitive domain. The purpose of this study was to describe the level of validity and analyze students' responses to the Higher Order Thinking Skill (HOTS)-based Four-Tier Multiple Choice (4TMC) on Elements, Compounds, and Mixtures material in class VIII junior high school students (Phase D). Research and development was conducted using the R n D (Research and Development) method. The research was conducted using the ADDIE model which refers to the Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation stages. The instruments used are interview instruments, validation questionnaires and learner response questionnaires. The subjects in this study were 3 expert lecturers of Science Education and 60 junior high school students in grade VIII. The validity level of the HOTS-based test instrument reached a value of 93.20% with the category “Very Feasible” and obtained the results of students' responses with the category “Good” at a percentage of 79.98%. Therefore, the HOTS-based 4TMC test instrument is very feasible to be used by teachers as a reference for conducting tests on science materials, especially elements, compounds, and mixtures.

Abstract

Teaching materials are one of the important learning supports. Therefore, the teaching materials used by teachers must be interactive and creative. The purpose of this study was to produce valid E-LKPD teaching materials and to describe the results of student responses to teaching materials in the form of E-LKPD based on guided inquiry on the material of earth structure and its development to facilitate students' creative thinking skills in the independent curriculum. The research method used in this study, namely the Research and Development (R&D) method according to Thiagarajan (1974) which has been adjusted to the needs of researchers, namely only up to the dissemination stage, up to the limited trial stage only. The research instruments used in this study, namely the Science Education expert validation sheet which had previously been validated by instrument experts and student response questionnaire sheets. Data analysis in this study was carried out descriptively quantitatively and qualitatively. The research data obtained the results of the validity level of the development of E-LKPD teaching materials based on guided inquiry on the material of the earth's structure and its development with an assessment by a validator of science education experts obtained a percentage of 88.36% and was included in the category of "Very Valid". For the results of student responses to E-LKPD, the percentage was 88% with the category of "Very Good". So that the use of E-LKPD teaching materials based on guided inquiry on the material of the earth's structure and its development can facilitate students' creative thinking skills and can be used for science learning.

Abstract

Low learning independence is a challenge in science learning. The right learning model, such as PJBL-STEM, can be an alternative for students' understanding of the material in depth. This study was conducted to determine the influence of the PjBL-STEM learning model on students' independence in learning the circulatory system material. The method used is a quasi-experiment with a pretest-posttest control group design, involving two classes, namely, the experimental class and the control class. This research instrument includes a learning independence questionnaire and an observation sheet on learning implementation. The results of the research that have been carried out show that the PjBL-STEM learning model has an influence on student independence in learning. The data was analyzed through IBM SPSS version 26. The results of this hypothesis test show that the PjBL-STEM model significantly increases student independence in learning, obtaining a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.022 < 0.05, thus H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted, which corroborates that the PjBL-STEM model has a significant effect on increasing student learning independence in circulatory system materials.

Abstract

The ability to argue well is one of the important requirements in science learning. However, learning that aims to develop students' argumentation skills has not been implemented properly. One solution is to provide learning materials that contain indicators of argumentation skills. These indicators will be presented in the form of an E-Module based on Question Prompt Scaffolding. The purpose of this research and development was to test the validity and readability of the E-Module. This E-Module focuses on the theme of Nutrient Pressure on Green Plants with the aim of improving the argumentation skills of eighth-grade students. The research method used is Research and Development (R&D). The Research and Development (R&D) model is based on the ADDIE model (Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). Various instruments were used in this study, including a validation questionnaire evaluated by three experts. These experts included subject matter experts, media experts, and science teachers. Additionally, a readability questionnaire was used to measure the readability of the E-Module. The validation results showed that the E-Module achieved an average score of 86% and fell into the “Highly Valid” category. This assessment was based on the subject matter expert's score of 82%, the media expert's score of 91%, and the science teacher's score of 86%. The readability of the E-Module was determined based on students' responses and achieved a score of 94%, categorized as “Very Good.” This proves that the Science E-Module based on Question Prompt Scaffolding with the theme of Nutrient Pressure on Green Plants is considered valid by all validators.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the learning by doing method on students' problem-solving abilities on the material of motion and force in the Merdeka curriculum. The learning-by-doing method was chosen because it emphasizes learning through direct experience, which is expected to increase students' active involvement and problem-solving skills. This study used a quasi-experimental design with the Pretest-Posttest Nonequivalent Control Group Design approach, involving two classes of junior high school students, namely the experimental class using the learning by doing method and the control class using the lecture method. The research instruments consisted of a problem-solving ability test in essay form, observation sheets, and student response questionnaires. The results showed that the learning by doing method had a significant effect on improving students' problem-solving abilities according to the independent sample t-test, producing a significance value of 0.01 (<0.05), which indicated that H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the Science, Environment, Technology, and Society (SETS) learning model using HOTS Question Cards on junior high school students' critical thinking skills on the theme "Let's Be Prepared for Disasters." A quasi-experiment was used, using a non-equivalent control group design. Class VII A and class VII B, with 36 students in each class, constituted the population and sample. The sample was drawn using a purposive sampling technique. The instrument used was a critical thinking essay question sheet and an observation sheet. A t-test was used for data analysis. The results of the data analysis obtained a significant result (2-tailed) of 0.000 (0.000 <0.05). The conclusion was that H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted. This indicates that the Science, Environment, Technology, and Society (SETS) learning model using HOTS Question Cards influences junior high school students' critical thinking skills on the theme "Let's Be Prepared for Disasters."

Abstract

This article examined the factors of telehealth, data privacy, and cybersecurity in today’s healthcare environment and discusses what key issues should be addressed and what effective solutions should be implemented and their implications for STEM Education. As telehealth brings more opportunities for the delivery of care, patient data have emerged as critical areas of concern. This paper aimed at discussing the telehealth data privacy concerns, the current and future cybersecurity threats facing healthcare systems, and recommended ways of enhancing these two areas. Based on a literature analysis and interviews with telehealth experts, this paper identifies that telehealth has unique advantages and opens specific security threats. The studies demonstrate the importance of enhanced data security policies, better IT systems to prevent unauthorized access, and constantly evolving legislation to safeguard the patient’s life and their personal information. The implications of telehealth, data privacy, and cybersecurity for STEM Education are these three contexts can be used as the contexts in the science learning process.
