Abstract

Quality of human resources is a key factor in the success of cultivation. Farmers who have good technical knowledge and skills tend to be more successful in managing their ponds. Therefore, through training and mentoring programs, it is hoped that the knowledge and skills needed to increase shrimp pond productivity can be provided. The purpose of this activity is to improve farmers' understanding of effective and efficient white shrimp cultivation techniques, identify problems, and create networks between farmers to share experiences and information. The training was held in July 2024 in Karangsewu Village, Galur District, Kulon Progo Regency, D.I.Yogyakarta Province. The training attended by 35 participants consisting of white shrimp farmers, fisheries extension workers, and the surrounding community. After completing the training, participants received support in the form of mentoring for shrimp cultivation activities for three months. Pre-tests and post-tests were conducted to measure the increase in participants' knowledge. The results showed that the level of knowledge of participants increased by 6.64%. As many as 79% of participants strongly agreed that the training could improve their knowledge, 71% strongly agreed that the training they attended was relevant to their jobs, and 86% of participants stated that they could develop their potential after attending the program. The results of post-training monitoring showed that productivity of white shrimp pond increased from an average of 12 tons/ha to 23.16 tons/ha. This program not only increases productivity and business sustainability, but also has a positive impact on the economy of the surrounding community. There needs to be a follow-up program to improve shrimp farmers' understanding of financial management, marketing strategies, and the development of value-added products.

Abstract

In outdoor cultivation at Amal Beach, three seeding mass selections were reared for 30 days for each cycle. Each variety had a different DGR %/day (Daily Growth Rate %/day) value at the end of the growing season on G1-G2-G3 ranging from 3.62-5.90 %/day, which were still categorized as good, and G3 var.Lampung had the highest DGR value. Carrageenan yield values in this study, G1 to G3, ranged from 23.16% to 45.87%, where the G3 G2 G1 treatment. The best thallus samples (20% were selected for each generation) resulted in carrageenan yield sample population in each variety, where var.Lampung var.Tarakan var.Kupang. The biplot analysis shows that the DGR variable vector coincides with the IAA, Phosphate, Gibberellin, and Ammonia vectors. Ammonia stepwise regression analysis (sig) affects DGR with an Ammonia coefficient value of 4.89; meaning that for each increase in the Ammonia value by one unit, the estimated mean value of DGR will increase by 4.89. Thus, the application of themassbased on the results of this study was able to increase the DGR valueKappaphycus alvarezii, which in turn produce the highest yield of carrageenan withK. alvareziivar.Lampung G3 was the best seed candidate to be developed at the seaweed cultivation site in Tarakan City. Keywords:AlgaePhytohormonesCarrageenanNitrogenViscosity

Abstract

Whiteleg shrimp Penaeus vannamei cultured in marine floating net-cage systems are highly susceptible to stress and diseases caused by Vibrio harveyi. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of turmeric Curcuma longa and kalmegh Andrographis paniculata on the growth performance and immune system of whiteleg shrimp against V. harveyi infection. The study utilized a completely randomized design with treatments including control (C), one week (1W), two weeks (2W), and four weeks (4W) of supplementation. The challenge test consisted of C+, C-, 1W, 2W, and 4W treatments. Parameters observed included growth performance, immune response, and resistance to V. harveyi. Results showed that the combination of turmeric and kalmegh significantly improved final biomass, weight gain, specific growth rate, and feed conversion ratio compared to the control. Survival rates after challenge tests revealed the highest survival in the C- group (93.33 ± 5.77%), followed by treatment 4W (86.67 ± 11.55%), 2W (76.67 ± 20.82%), 1W (46.67 ± 35.12%), and the lowest in C+ (33.33 ± 26.46%) with significant differences (P < 0.05) across treatments. Immune responses, including total hemocytes, phagocytosis activity, phenoloxidase activity, and respiratory burst, were also significantly improved in the treatment groups compared to the positive control. In conclusion, the combination of turmeric and kalmegh (2:1 ratio, 6 mL/kg of diet) significantly enhances both growth and immune responses of whiteleg shrimp, offering a potential alternative to antibiotics for controlling vibriosis in shrimp aquaculture.
