Many people are still struggling to cope with gender equality in all aspects of life. There is hope for a balanced role for men and women to participate in any industry. The gender balance today seems to be that both men and women have equal possibilities to present, attend classes, work, and take part in other positive activities. Above and beyond, gender equality can be introduced at a young age by bringing up the roles of men and women in a balanced way of contributing to daily activities, as demonstrated in coursebooks. The excellent coursebook should illustrate the way men and women interact in society based on their roles, position, surroundings, culture, and community structures that are portrayed throughout the form of images and sentence descriptions in a balanced way. However, the current English coursebook with an Indonesian setting has not been able to fulfill gender equality. At this point, the researchers conducted a study to look into various aspects of gender awareness in the Cambridge Global English Coursebook 8 Grades. This study employs qualitative research using content analysis. The data of this study was derived from the content of Cambridge Global English Coursebook 8 Grades, which depicts gender relations. The content was categorized into visibility, jobs, games, household duties, and the data, consisting of pictures and texts from the coursebook. The data of this study was obtained through document analysis. This study showed gender awareness in Cambridge Global English Coursebook 8 Grades. The data were presented as follows: a) There were 113 men and 45 women in the visibility aspects b) There were 17 men and 9 women in the job aspects c) There were 27 men and 10 women in the games or sports aspects d) There were three men and 0 woman in the household duties aspect. Based on the findings, gender stereotypes still exist in the Cambridge Global English Coursebook 8 Grades.

This study aims to investigate the types of speech acts and their functions contained in the dialogues of the English textbook titled "English in Mind Second Edition Students' Book Starter Grade VII," which was composed based on the implementation of Kurikulum Merdeka Belajar. The study employed a descriptive qualitative research approach, utilizing text dialogues from the English textbook as the primary data source. The speech acts in the dialogues were analyzed based on Searle's (1976) speech act framework. The results indicate a total of 161 speech acts (utterances) across all dialogues in the textbook. The distribution of speech acts is as follows: assertive accounted for 29.2% (47 instances), directive accounted for 24.8% (40 instances), commissive accounted for 9.9% (16 instances), expressive accounted for 35.4% (57 instances), and declaration accounted for 0.6% (1 instance). While the textbook demonstrates good representation of speech acts within Searle's framework, it should be noted that certain functions of speech act types, specifically commissive and declarative speech acts, were not consistently present in all dialogues. Based on these findings, this study suggests that textbook designers and material developers strive to authentically incorporate various functions of speech act types, ensuring authentic interactions and natural language usage. By doing so, they can enhance EFL learners' performances and interactions using speech acts. Please note that this revised version is based on the feedback and suggestions provided earlier. A movie is one of the famous media that is interesting in conveying messages to the people. Tilik movie is a short movie produced by Ravacana Films collaborating with the Culture Department of Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY). This is viral in 2020 because it shows the culture and relates to the condition and real life of people in our society. Speech act is action carried out through language. Through speech act, people can make command, request, etc. Â The aim of this research to analyze the speech act used by Bu Tejo as one of the main characters in the Tilik movie. The primary sources of data were Bu Tejoâ€™s utterances in Tilik movie. This research also used its movie script as a secondary source. In speech act, there are three types of speech acts; a) locutionary acts, b) illocutionary acts, and c) perlocutionary acts. In this research, the researcher concerns to the illocutionary acts used by Bu Tejo as the main character in the Tilik. The researchers employed the descriptive qualitative method to analyze and describe the script. The script of the Tilik movie as the data of speech acts were taken and classified according to the John R. Searle's Concept of types of illocutionary acts and supported by Austin's concept. There are two research questions, 1) what kind of illocutionary acts and 2) how many frequency distributions are used by Bu Tejo as the main character in Tilik Movie.Â This research results in 70 illocutionary acts found in Bu Tejoâ€™s utterances, consisting of 41 representatives, 18 directives, and 11 expressives.

This study aims to investigate the text, the discourse practice, and the sociocultural practice of Bintang Emon’s discourse humor video entitled “Accidentally (Ga Sengaja),” posted on his Instagram platform. To analyze the data, the qualitative descriptive method was used in this study. The data were obtained from the video transcript of Bintang Emon accessed from Instagram. The data were then analyzed by using Norman Fairclough’s discourse analysis model. Moreover, the techniques used were observing, interpreting the data by analyzing the text, which was seen from three elements such as Representation, Relation, and Identity; analyzing the discourse practice which focused on production, consumption, reproduction of the text; and analyzing the socio-cultural practice of the discourse humor, and the last is concluding. The result of this study showed that Bintang Emon used more rhetorical figures in his discourse in the analysis of text level. He delivered his criticism with good word choices and conveyed some analogies to make the audiences agree with what he said. The intention of his complaint regarding Novel Baswedan’s acid attack case was expressed implicitly so that the audiences cannot predict his intention if they only look at it from his caption. In the level of discourse practice, he successfully represented most of the citizens’ criticism against the case. Furthermore, he took his right to freedom of speech to deliver his thought in a humorous style.

Employee performance assessment is an important element in supporting the achievement of a company's strategic goals. This study aims to analyze employee performance measurement using the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) method as a basis for determining Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) at PT. Z. The BSC approach involves four main perspectives: financial, customer, internal business processes, and learning and growth. The research method used is quantitative descriptive with a survey technique using a questionnaire for 40 employees and 30 respondents for customers. The results show that BSC-based performance measurement provides a comprehensive picture that can help management in setting more focused, measurable, and strategic KPIs. The implication of this study is the need for companies to integrate the BSC into their performance management systems to improve overall organizational effectiveness.

The study sought to investigate the lexical cohesion in three YouTube videos by Naila Farhana, "Language Learning when you are an Introvert," "This useful language translation hack will help you!" and "Change your life! Benefits of Learning English Language". Farhana is known as an Indonesian YouTuber engaged in Languages. Through her video, the study analyzed Farhana's utterances on some topics based on lexical cohesion elements. Moreover, this study is concerned with Farhana's consistency, properly using lexical cohesion based, and finding out which lexical cohesion is the most dominant. Since to produce good writing and speech, it needs to pay attention when used to make the reader or listener not misunderstand. The research method was a qualitative description of the YouTube transcript to analyze the lexical cohesion devices. The results showed that the most dominant lexical cohesion of Farhana's three Youtube videos was Collocation of 36.93%. In addition, the study found Farhana's consistency in using lexical cohesion seen in the percentage of using the correct type of lexical cohesion reached from Halliday and Hasan's theory.

Phatic communication refers to small talks that aim to form ties of personal union between people or the speakers. Especially in this digital age, phatic communication is somehow still used. This research aims to uncover the kinds and functions of phatic communication used by Indonesian students who have been doing online classes through Facebook, responding to their classmates‘ material presentations, and having discussions in the comment column. This current study employs the qualitative method with the document analysis technique. The data of this recent study is the phatic communication used by students during the online course through Facebook, and the data was examined through document analysis techniques from the students‘ Facebook comments activity in the form of words, phrases, clauses, and sentences related to phatic expressions. Moreover, the data was analyzed through the following steps: 1) labeling the related data; 2) classifying the data into its types and functions; 3) interpreting the data findings; and 4) drawing conclusions.The study‘s main finding is the appearance of phatic expressions, for instance, greeting, thankfulness,compliment, apology, encouragement, and wishing to each other. As the typical conversation is made online through social media platforms such as Facebook, we suggest that some language or conversation styles like abbreviations, non-standard spelling, and emojis have also appeared.

The gender status in ELT (English Language Teaching) textbooks for Eleventh Grade Students is examined in this study. The study goals are as follows: to determine what gender position is equal in the textbook Pathway to English and to identify what male and female roles are appropriate for their gender position in the textbook. Content analysis was employed as the study approach. The data from this study were studied in six areas of gender, and they are: Female or male graphical depiction or illustration, female and male characters who play professional/occupational roles, proper nouns, pronouns, common nouns, and titles are all stated as female or male. Female and male role models: The number of role models, female/male activities are any actions performed by a female or a man. The pattern of mentioning female/male names refers to female and male characters in the same sentence. The data shows that the numerical representation of females in this book is less than males in all aspects.

This research study aimed to examine the talks of male and female EFL teachers. This study aims to determine how male and female EFL teachers realise mood differently and how they recognize it in their discussions and roles as teachers. The plan was to use a descriptive-qualitative research design. Observation, audio recording, and field notes were used to collect data. Mood structure analysis was used to analyze data. To provide a more detailed analysis, utterances are classified based on their description, meaning, and code. This study's findings are: (1) A male teacher found 26 statement mood utterances, 26 interrogative mood utterances, 20 declarative mood utterance variations, and 2 offer mood utterances. Meanwhile, female teachers identified 23 statement moods, 17 interrogative moods, 5 commands, and 1 offer moods (2) for using mood structures in male and female teacher discourse; statement and interrogative moods are the most often employed moods during the teaching and learning process. (3) the most widely utilized kind of mood structure is declarative. It happens because teaching is a teacher's primary responsibility.

People communicate with each other with some intentions. Nowadays, information can be easily accessed through social media. Unfortunately, the platforms cannot understand the semantic and pragmatic features. To achieve effective communication, speech should be performed and interpreted accordingly. This article will discuss the illocutionary acts in Nadiem's speech. The speaker's purpose can be understood comprehensively by analysing the illocutionary acts. The present study is a descriptive-qualitative analysis. The main focus of this study is the illocutionary speech acts performance. The video gathered was about Nadiem Makarim, the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, presenting the Education Transformation in Indonesia. The video was taken at the Education World Forum, London 2023. The researchers then transcribed the video, analysed the illocutionary speech acts, specified the types, and evaluated the corresponding frequently used speech acts percentages to derive the conclusions. It can be found that Nadiem Makarim has performed 107 utterances. The utterances used are categorised as assertive speech acts, which is prevalent up to 82 utterances. The other illocutionary speech acts presented are expressive, consisting of 14 utterances, ten directives utterances, and one commissive speech act. It can be concluded that the most frequently used illocutionary speech act in the speech is assertive, which takes accounts into 76.6%. There were not any declaratives illocutionary speech acts found
