Abstract

Mathematics demands high-level thinking skills, especially in problem-solving, and is characterized by systematic and logical reasoning. Beyond cognitive aspects, affective factors such as students’ interest in learning also influence their engagement and success. This study investigates differences in algebraic problem-solving ability based on students' interest levels and explores the relationship between the two variables. A comparative quantitative approach was used with Kruskal-Wallis non-parametric analysis and a correlation test. The sample consisted of 30 seventh-grade students at an MTs in Yogyakarta, grouped into low, medium, and high interest categories. Data were collected through a learning interest questionnaire and an algebra problem-solving test. The Kruskal-Wallis results showed a significance value of 0.135 (>0.05), indicating no significant difference in problem-solving ability among the groups. Similarly, the correlation test revealed no significant relationship between interest and ability. These findings suggest that learning interest does not directly affect students' algebraic problem-solving skills. Future research could explore other factors influencing mathematical problem-solving performance.

Abstract

Learning outcomes are interconnected with the competencies and self-perceptions possessed by each person. This research investigates the impact of self-efficacy and self-regulated learning on the results of mathematics learning. This research included a total of 164 students from two Madrasah Aliyah (MA) located in the Bantul area. The used research methodology is quantitative in nature. The used tools included self-efficacy and self-regulated learning questionnaires, alongside the outcomes of the midterm assessments. Data analysis procedures include doing precondition tests and using multiple linear regression analysis. The prerequisite tests include normality testing, linearity tests, homogeneity tests, and multicollinearity tests. The data processing results in a regression model: , This indicates that self-efficacy and self-regulated learning have a beneficial impact on mathematics learning outcomes. The acquisition of the F test indicates that a significance value of 0.00<0.05 is achieved, indicating that self-efficacy and self-regulated learning have a substantial impact on students' mathematical learning results.

Abstract

Accurate measurement tools are needed to assess mathematical literacy in algebra. This study purposes to describe the test items characteristics in a mathematical literacy test using IRT. This study conducted by modifying the test development steps according to Downing & Haladyna. Subjects in this study were 179 7th students at a junior high school in Yogyakarta. The data collection instruments included a validation sheet and a test instrument. Data analysis techniques included content validity, construct validity, construct reliability, item and person characteristics using the PCM model. The results of the study indicate that there are eight items of mathematical literacy in algebra for seventh grade. All items are content-valid with a value of V >0.80, construct-valid (SLF > 0.45), and construct-reliable (CR>0.70). The difficulty level of items is in the good category with a b value in the range -2<b<2. The ICC curve shows that there are 2 items with ideal ICC and 6 items with non-ideal ICC. The information function and SEM indicate that the test instrument provides the best information when administered to students with abilities slightly below average. There were 6 questions that met the item fit criteria and 112 students who met the person fit criteria.

Abstract

This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach to explore the implementation of the STEAM–Ethnoscience Carita-based science learning model in a primary school classroom to enhance students’ creativity and critical thinking skills. Data were collected through participatory observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation, involving teachers, students, school leaders, and local community members. Student creativity and critical thinking development were identified through classroom observations, learning artifacts, and thematic analysis of learning activities during the implementation of the model. The findings indicate that integrating STEAM principles with local ethnoscience knowledge, particularly traditional agricultural practices, water management, and environmental conservation in the Carita community, significantly improved the quality of science learning. Contextual learning activities encouraged active student engagement, strengthened conceptual understanding, and fostered environmental awareness. The results also show a substantial improvement in students’ creativity and critical thinking abilities during the learning process, as reflected in their ability to generate ideas, analyze problems, and propose solutions during project-based activities. These findings demonstrate that the STEAM–Ethnoscience Carita model provides an effective pedagogical framework for developing 21st-century competencies in primary education and offers potential for adaptation in other educational contexts with similar cultural and ecological characteristics.

Abstract

Pembelajaran matematika menuntut siswa tidak hanya mampu memperoleh jawaban akhir, tetapi juga mengelola proses berpikir secara sadar melalui keterampilan metakognisi dan didukung oleh motivasi belajar yang memadai. Namun, kedua aspek tersebut masih menjadi tantangan bagi sebagian siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan peran chatbot berbasis Artificial Intelligence (AI) dalam meningkatkan keterampilan metakognisi dan motivasi belajar matematika siswa SMA. Penelitian menggunakan desain Exploratory Sequential dengan pendekatan mixed methods. Subjek penelitian adalah 32 siswa kelas X di SMAN 9 Yogyakarta yang dipilih secara purposive sampling. Instrumen penelitian meliputi tes keterampilan metakognitif dan angket motivasi belajar matematika. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mayoritas siswa berada pada kategori keterampilan metakognitif cukup hingga baik, dengan kontribusi chatbot AI paling kuat pada aspek monitoring, sementara aspek planning dan evaluating masih berkembang secara parsial. Selain itu, motivasi belajar matematika siswa didominasi kategori sedang dan tinggi, meskipun masih terdapat siswa dengan motivasi rendah. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa chatbot AI berperan sebagai pendamping proses belajar yang efektif dalam mendukung pemantauan berpikir dan meningkatkan motivasi, namun perlu desain interaksi yang lebih terarah untuk mengoptimalkan perencanaan dan evaluasi metakognitif siswa.
