Abstract

This paper aims to find out how Al-Ghazali, Lawrence Kolberg, and Thomas Lichona think about character education in contemporary Islam. The benefits for the government and educators make the educational ideas of Al-Ghazali, Lawrence Kolberg, and Thomas Lichona an inspiration in upholding quality Indonesian education. This research method is qualitative with descriptive analysis techniques using library research (library research). Through this literature review, researchers try to describe existing phenomena, which are currently taking place or in the past, and are sourced from various sources that have theoretical depth from experts. This study examines the perspective of character education according to Al-Ghazali, Thomas Lickona, and Lawrence Kolberg by examining the theories put forward. The results of this paper are that according to Al-Ghazali educational thinking is religious-ethical in nature, al-Ghazali's educational goals cover three aspects, namely cognitive aspects, affective aspects, and psychomotor aspects. Al-Ghazali mentioned four scientific classification categories, namely; classification of science syar'iyah (religion) and 'aqliyah (reason); theoretical and practical sciences; knowledge is presented (hudhûri) and acquired (hushûli); The knowledge of fardhu 'ain and fardhu kifayah. Meanwhile, Thomas Lickona stated that the notion of character education is a deliberate effort to help someone understand, pay attention to, and carry out core ethical values. And more broadly, he stated that character education is a deliberate (conscious) effort to realize virtue, namely objectively good human traits, not only good for individuals but also good for society as a whole. According to Lawrence Kolberg, Kohlberg offers fictional moral issues, so that for the context of the Indonesian nation, it is necessary to prioritize contemporary moral issues that actually occur in everyday life. In this case, what needs to be emphasized is that children have diverse experiences in social problems. Children must also be confronted with moral problems from a different perspective. Thus the diversity of moral problems and various perspectives in solving moral problems will encourage children's moral development to a higher stage.

Abstract

Muhammadiyah and Aisyiah Higher Education is a major role of the Muhammadiyah organization in advancing education in Indonesia, including the Muhammadiyah University of South. Dikti Litbang is a council in the Muhammadiyah organizational structure tasked with and authorized to foster and develop Al-Islam Kemuhammadiyahan. The AIK development model can be developed by the AIK  at Muhammadiyah and Aisyiah Higher Education, but is still guided by the AIK curriculum of the PP Muhammadiyah Higher Education Council. Thus, this research aims to find a model for the development of Al-Islam and Muhammadiyah implemented by LP-AIK. The results of this research can be used as an alternative for Muhammadiyah and Aisyiah Higher Education in Indonesia in developing AIK. The type of research is descriptive, with a qualitative approach that seeks to describe mentoring activities at campus. The data collected came from interviews with the head of LP-AIK, divisions, mentors, co-mentors, and several students. Mentoring guidebooks and rules are a source of data to view mentoring planning. The registration process, grouping, scheduling and implementation of mentoring are part of what is observed to see how the mentoring is carried out. The data obtained was grouped and then analyzed and discussed based on mentoring theory, thus arriving at a finding and conclusion regarding the mentoring-based AIK development model implemented by LP AIK.

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the response of Muhammadiyah to the actual issues that focused on educational development and historical flashbacks. The method used was qualitative by collecting the data by using library research. The findings in this research contained the response of Muhammadiyah to educational development which focused on innovation, the quality of institutions improvement, human resources development and the beginnings or history of education itself. Before education in Muhammadiyah experienced its current extraordinary development, the education in the past time was only carried out in the mosques. The Dutch colonies forbade indigenous Indonesian people to pursue general education. Based on its history, education at Muhammadiyah was divided into several periods, namely the pioneering, development and transformation periods. Nowadays, Muhammadiyah has developed very well. There are roles of Muhammadiyah in education itself, namely by building Muhammadiyah schools and universities as widely as possible and providing various kinds of scholarships so that education is more equitable, improving the quality of teachers who not only teach worldly things but are balanced towards Hablumminallah. Muhammadiyah even provides grants for research to lecturer or student.

In its history, Muhammadiyah has three relationship patterns with political parties: direct relationship patterns, indirect relationship patterns, and neutral relationship patterns. Furthermore, Muhammadiyah is not anti-politics; Muhammadiyah even supports democracy based on ethics. Muhammadiyah's involvement in politics has started since it participated in MIAI, PII, Masyumi, and Parmusi.

Abstract

Religious culture in schools plays a vital role in shaping students’ moral character and supporting Islamic Religious Education (PAI) outcomes. This study explores the strategies used to develop religious school culture and evaluates their impact on students’ character development and academic performance in PAI. A qualitative case study was conducted at SD Muhammadiyah 1 Ngimbang-Lamongan, involving 10 participants including the principal, PAI teachers, and parents. Data were collected through observations, in-depth interviews, document analysis, and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), then validated using source, technique, and time triangulation. Thematic analysis was conducted using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model. The findings revealed four core strategies: (1) creating a religious atmosphere (e.g., playing Islamic songs and murottal), (2) modeling religious behavior by teachers, (3) habituating Islamic practices (e.g., congregational and Dhuha prayers, tahfidz, and the 5S culture), and (4) innovation in extracurricular programs (e.g., Muhadloroh, Hizbul Wathon). These strategies positively contributed to students' discipline, spiritual awareness, Qur’anic memorization, and mastery of PAI materials. Developing religious culture through structured and consistent strategies fosters both academic and character excellence. The findings confirm the importance of integrating Islamic values into daily school practices and highlight the role of teacher modeling and school-family collaboration in sustaining religious values.

Abstract

In the early 2020s, this study examines the origins and ideas of the historicity of the Muhammadiyah movement in Indonesia at the beginning of the 20th century. The focus is on the theological principles of tajwid and ijtihad, as expressed by Ahmad Dahlan, the founder of Muhammadiyah. This study examines the historical significance of Muhammadiyah, including its fundamental principles, historical background, and influence on Indonesian society. Previous studies regarding the historical importance of Muhammadiyah mainly focused on one nation, Indonesia, and examined two specific aspects, namely the socio-political dimension. However, this research will focus on the historical significance of Muhammadiyah in three areas: educational, social and political contexts. Furthermore, the discussion will also examine Muhammadiyah's activities in Thailand. A thorough literature review was conducted last decade using publish or perish (PoP) hazing applications. This assessment involves utilizing several databases, such as “PupMed,” “ABIInform,” “EBSO Host,” “Emerald,” “Google Scholar,” “Science Direct,” “ProQuest,” “Web of Science,” and “ERIC.” This study integrates the use of several theoretical frameworks, including "Historicity", "Muhammadiyah", "Socio-Political Development", "Education", and "International". Emphasis is placed on the impact of Dutch colonial rule, but its connection to the broader Islamic reformist movement remains limited. This study offers a comprehensive survey of existing literature regarding the historicity process within Muhammadiyah, exploring the basic concepts and historical background. There is a need for a thorough analysis of the long-term impact and comparative evaluation of distribution strategies and research methodologies. Data were analyzed through data reduction, presentation and conclusion/verification procedures using the 7P SLR diagram technique. This approach was used to ensure the uniqueness of the findings. A review of the scientific literature reveals Muhammadiyah's significant contribution to facilitating comprehensive education, fostering cognitive autonomy, and overcoming social barriers through implementing social welfare initiatives. This study also examines the impact of this movement on the development of a progressive understanding of Islam in a cultural and socio-economic context. This analysis highlights the correlation between Muhammadiyah's fundamental concepts, historical background, and societal influence. This study advances scholarly understanding of the Islamic reform movement. It offers valuable insights into the complex dynamics between theological principles and societal change in Indonesia and how to examine the influence of Muhammadiyah in Thailand.

Abstract

This study explores the role of Majelis Taklim Pitulasan in fostering women’s spiritual transformation in Kampung Magersaren, Blitar. The research adopts a qualitative approach using a case study method, with data collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana model to ensure the validity and accuracy of the findings. The findings reveal that Majelis Taklim Pitulasan plays a significant role as a facilitator, motivator, and educator in enhancing the spirituality of its female members. The assembly reinforces religious discipline, such as consistent prayer practices, and provides psychological benefits, including increased inner peace and self-confidence. Furthermore, the fiqh al-nisā’ (women’s jurisprudence) studies delivered in the group have helped participants better understand and appreciate women’s roles in Islam. The assembly also contributes to building social solidarity through voluntary contributions and community-based activities that strengthen bonds among its members. This study affirms that non-formal religious education through majelis taklim has a transformative impact on women’s religious lives, both in ritual and social aspects. The findings underscore the importance of optimizing community-based learning methods to enhance the effectiveness of sustainable Islamic education.
