Abstract

Higher education increasingly emphasizes the importance of developing students' academic and professional abilities, including scientific communication and presentation skills. The research proposal presentation program is a strategic initiative in responding to these needs, but challenges in its implementation still exist. Evaluate the effectiveness of student research proposal presentation programs in the Scientific Writing course at UNINDRA and identify strengths and weaknesses in the delivery of material and student argumentation structure. Evaluative research involves collecting data from the results of presentation evaluations, feedback from lecturers or other participants, and assessing the quality of presentations. Qualitative and quantitative data analysis techniques were used, with thematic analysis techniques to identify patterns or themes in participant feedback and evaluation. The evaluation showed that the research proposal presentation program provided significant benefits for lecturers and students. However, there are challenges in the learning process due to inadequate support in CPMK and material distribution. The high lecturer-student ratio also hinders the implementation of the ideal presentation. Internal obstacles such as lack of courage and suboptimal preparation of presentation materials also affect the quality of presentations. The need for adjustments in the preparation of the curriculum and teaching methods, including aligning the CPMK with the CPL and ensuring that the plan for the presentation of research proposals is included in the RPS. It is necessary to provide adequate time and improvement of presentation equipment to improve the quality of presentation and feedback. Better integration between CPMK and CPL will create a globally competitive generation of academics and professionals. Thus, this program can be more effective in achieving higher education goals in developing students' academic and professional abilities.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Microlearning and critical thinking are essential for effective English speaking, yet their integration in existing materials for seventh graders remains inadequate. As a result, this study aimed to develop microlearning- based English speaking materials enriched with critical thinking for seventh graders. Using content analysis, this study analyzed these materials through modified frameworks of microlearning and critical thinking (Allela, 2021; Leong et al., 2021; De Gagne, 2019; Hug, 2005; Anderson & Krathwohl, 2001). English teachers were also interviewed to confirm material usage and assess the integration of microlearning and critical thinking. Content analysis of one national textbooks (Kurikulum Merdeka) and two teacher- created materials, alongside interviews with three teachers, revealed deficiencies in material design conciseness (LM_ML02), curriculum alignment (LM_ML05), and microlearning object incorporation (LM_ML06). Moreover, coverage of critical thinking skills such as analysis (CT4), evaluation (CT5), synthesis (CT6) was also limited. These findings highlighted the need for developing microlearning-based English speaking materials enriched with critical thinking for seventh graders. However, the focus on this grade level limits generalizability of the results. Therefore, further research across different academic levels and education context is recommended.

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the implementation of the TOEFL test at Sembilanbelas November University Kolaka using the CIPP (Context, Input, Process, Product) evaluation model. The research method used is evaluation research with a qualitative approach. This research sample involved the Language UPT of Sembilanbelas November Kolaka University as the research subject, with a focus on the implementation of the TOEFL test and related programs. Data was obtained through observation, in-depth interviews and documentation studies. The collected data was analyzed using the data analysis model from Miles and Huberman, which includes data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing stages. The research results show that the implementation of the TOEFL test at the UPT Bahasa Sembilanbelas November Kolaka University has several weaknesses, especially related to inadequate physical facilities, lack of training for instructors, and lack of flexibility in the test implementation schedule. Despite this, the program was successful in improving participants' English language skills, although there is still a need to focus more on developing broader practical and communication skills. This evaluation provides recommendations for improvement and further development in the implementation of the TOEFL test program, with the hope that these steps will improve the quality of test implementation and provide a greater contribution to students' academic and professional progress.

Abstract

Abstract: English for Special Purposes (BIK) is English language teaching specifically designed to meet the needs of learners in an English language learning program so that they can communicate in a particular context. The qualitative study seeks to answer the research question “How far has the English Program for Special Purposes for Secretaries and Administrative Strengths been successful in meeting the English language development needs and the English learning needs of students?” by using the CIPP component in the evaluation model approach advocated by Stufflebeam. The CIPPs component is used as a guide for planning, implementation and evaluation of the ESP program through theoretical-based criteria derived from the researchers’ understanding of language learning programmes. (Kiely dan Rea-Dickins, 2005). Data collection was carried out on ten participants, two teachers and one program developer through interview techniques. The evaluation results showed that the BIK program has successfully met the language skills development needs and the English learning needs of the students. The biggest challenge in the implementation of the BIK program is to reduce the difficulty of participants in learning English without explicitly incorporating language structural elements. In addition, these evaluations also produce systematic guidelines that can be used to evaluate English for Special Purposes programmes at other program providers or can also be used in the evaluation of teaching programmes in other fields of study.
