Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Microlearning and critical thinking are essential for effective English speaking, yet their integration in existing materials for seventh graders remains inadequate. As a result, this study aimed to develop microlearning- based English speaking materials enriched with critical thinking for seventh graders. Using content analysis, this study analyzed these materials through modified frameworks of microlearning and critical thinking (Allela, 2021; Leong et al., 2021; De Gagne, 2019; Hug, 2005; Anderson & Krathwohl, 2001). English teachers were also interviewed to confirm material usage and assess the integration of microlearning and critical thinking. Content analysis of one national textbooks (Kurikulum Merdeka) and two teacher- created materials, alongside interviews with three teachers, revealed deficiencies in material design conciseness (LM_ML02), curriculum alignment (LM_ML05), and microlearning object incorporation (LM_ML06). Moreover, coverage of critical thinking skills such as analysis (CT4), evaluation (CT5), synthesis (CT6) was also limited. These findings highlighted the need for developing microlearning-based English speaking materials enriched with critical thinking for seventh graders. However, the focus on this grade level limits generalizability of the results. Therefore, further research across different academic levels and education context is recommended.

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the implementation of the TOEFL test at Sembilanbelas November University Kolaka using the CIPP (Context, Input, Process, Product) evaluation model. The research method used is evaluation research with a qualitative approach. This research sample involved the Language UPT of Sembilanbelas November Kolaka University as the research subject, with a focus on the implementation of the TOEFL test and related programs. Data was obtained through observation, in-depth interviews and documentation studies. The collected data was analyzed using the data analysis model from Miles and Huberman, which includes data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing stages. The research results show that the implementation of the TOEFL test at the UPT Bahasa Sembilanbelas November Kolaka University has several weaknesses, especially related to inadequate physical facilities, lack of training for instructors, and lack of flexibility in the test implementation schedule. Despite this, the program was successful in improving participants' English language skills, although there is still a need to focus more on developing broader practical and communication skills. This evaluation provides recommendations for improvement and further development in the implementation of the TOEFL test program, with the hope that these steps will improve the quality of test implementation and provide a greater contribution to students' academic and professional progress.

Abstract

Abstract: English for Special Purposes (BIK) is English language teaching specifically designed to meet the needs of learners in an English language learning program so that they can communicate in a particular context. The qualitative study seeks to answer the research question “How far has the English Program for Special Purposes for Secretaries and Administrative Strengths been successful in meeting the English language development needs and the English learning needs of students?” by using the CIPP component in the evaluation model approach advocated by Stufflebeam. The CIPPs component is used as a guide for planning, implementation and evaluation of the ESP program through theoretical-based criteria derived from the researchers’ understanding of language learning programmes. (Kiely dan Rea-Dickins, 2005). Data collection was carried out on ten participants, two teachers and one program developer through interview techniques. The evaluation results showed that the BIK program has successfully met the language skills development needs and the English learning needs of the students. The biggest challenge in the implementation of the BIK program is to reduce the difficulty of participants in learning English without explicitly incorporating language structural elements. In addition, these evaluations also produce systematic guidelines that can be used to evaluate English for Special Purposes programmes at other program providers or can also be used in the evaluation of teaching programmes in other fields of study.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the effect of using Virtual Reality (VR) technology in improving pronunciation and fluency in learning English as a foreign language (EFL). By offering an immersive and interactive learning environment, VR allows learners to practice speaking skills in situations that mimic real-world conversations, potentially reducing anxiety and increasing confidence. This study identifies the role of VR in facilitating repeated exposure to accurate pronunciation models and assisting in the development of speaking fluency through interactive simulation. The results of the study indicate that the use of VR can improve learners' pronunciation and fluency, especially by providing immediate feedback and the opportunity to practice in a non-stressful environment. However, although VR shows positive results, its effectiveness in the long term and in a more realistic classroom context still requires further research. This study also highlights the need for more in-depth studies on the comparison between training using VR and traditional methods, as well as the influence of individual factors such as anxiety and previous pronunciation training on learning outcomes.

Abstract

Research instruments in program evaluation are essential and need thorough care regarding validity, reliability, and credibility. This study aims to verify the skills required in the Industrial Job Training Program applicable to Astra Honda repair shops. The Delphi analysis technique was used in this study to reach a consensus among experts on the skills required for motorcycle engineers. The participants of this research were six panelists using the purposive technique. Data were collected through document analysis, questionnaires, and follow-up interviews. The instrument used to collect data is a questionnaire sheet. The consensus among six experts in rating skills is then calculated using SPSS 24 software to perform W analysis. The research results are, first, experts prioritize mastery of soft skills over technical skills. It can be proven by the ranking results, which place soft skills in the top 7 rankings ahead of all technical skill items. Second, among the many technical skills presented from the government's proposed curriculum and Honda's traditional skills, experts selected only the most specific and specialized skills that were most widely applied in the workplace. It was concluded that experts prefer workers who excel in soft skills compared to technical skills.
