Abstract

Abstract

Problems with the community regarding the use of Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs) in national park areas are one of the debates that are often faced, including in the Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park. The effectiveness of implementing forestry partnerships based on the perspective of the community as permit holders is something that must be done to resolve this problem. A person's perspective based on their perceptions is usually influenced by demographics and social capital, so it is necessary to know whether both have an influence on forestry partnership programs. Many studies have proven that, in particular, the success of forest management with the community cannot be separated from the contribution of social capital, especially through the variables of trust, social norms and existing social networks. So far, there has been a lot of research on forestry partnerships in national parks that has been linked to the success of increasing production, but still very little has been linked to the characteristics and social aspects of the community. Based on this, the aim of this research is to analyze the role of social capital in the implementation of forestry partnerships in the Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park. The research was conducted in July 2023 with a sample of 95 respondents who were members of the partnership program. Data analysis through hypothesis testing Partial Least Square- Structural Equation Model (Second Order) using Smart PLS.4.0 software. The results of hypothesis testing show that social capital variables (trust, norms/values, and networks) influence partnership members to participate in the program. The level of social capital owned by the community shows the level of trust from both internal and external groups, the level of compliance with the rules and the level of motivation to build a stronger marketing network by involving the roles of the parties.

Abstract

The Way Pisang Forest Management Unit (FMU) has significant obligations and roles in overseeing forest areas at the ground level, including forest management and preparing forest management plans; forest utilization; forest use; rehabilitation and reclamation; and forest protection and nature conservation. Performance appraisals are completed to examine the progress of implementing forest management role at the site level. This research aims to provide a performance assessment of the Way Pisang FMU after the enforcement of the Job Creation Law (UUCK) using models and indicators from Forest Watch Indonesia version 2.0 which consists of 9 measures, 28 indicators and 62 quality components. The result shows that the forest management performance index value of Way Pisang FMU is at Medium category, which means that KPH Way Pisang is quite good at managing forest areas. However, there are yet a few rules that require improvement, namely area stabilization, government relations  and regulations, and investment mechanisms to ensure the optimization of operationalization of Way Pisang FMU in the site level of forest management.

Abstract

The history of nickel mining in Indonesia began in the Verbeek Mountains in Sulawesi in 1901. The finding of nickel and its extraction occurred in the Netherlands, making it the pioneering site for this ore. Also, the substantial rise in the extraction of natural resources like nickel through mining would inevitably profoundly influence forests, which serve as the core of the ecosystem for both flora and fauna. This study aims to determine the consequences of the growing nickel production on Indonesia’s forests and environment. It involves examining the alterations in the forests due to the increased nickel production and evaluating the broader environmental effects. The research method used in this research is a literature review. This technique seeks to analyze, assess, and interpret diverse research findings to examine them within the investigated subject’s framework. The research result of this investigation demonstrates that the escalating nickel production in Indonesia is detrimental to forests and the environment, leading to deforestation, degradation of habitats, and contamination of the air and soil. These alterations present immediate hazards to human well-being, such as respiratory problems and effects on agricultural output. It is crucial to evaluate and improve the methods used for nickel production and adopt sustainable management strategies to reduce the negative impacts on the environment and protect both the ecosystem and human welfare. Keywords: ecosystem pollution, deforestation, forest management, nickel mining, water pollution

Abstract

Improving the performance of small and medium enterprises (SME) means enhancing the economics of a nation, considering that SMEs are the biggest part in global economic activities. The higher the SME’s activities, the higher the economic growth occurs in a country. However, nurturing SMEs activities affect the environment, while the damage inclines every day in a worrying level. There is a huge demand to suppress down the environmental damage rate globally, as if it causes a contradictive goal with the economic perspective. Thus, a compromise should be made between both expectations, even it is not easy to do so. Answering to the problem, discussions have been made among scholars around the world, including in Indonesia as an emerging country. Theories and methods were proposed, varying based on characteristics in each region. Especially in Indonesia, there is a lack of literature review on this field, which is actually required to depict the current condition, to evaluate the discussion effectiveness and to develop future improvements. Therefore, this article aims to fill this gap by presenting scientific articles related to the topic and reviewing the discussion. Subsequently, a classification of the articles based on identified themes is conducted. And further the classification is used to see more specific gaps in the discussion and to provide recommendation for the next studies.

Abstract

Solid medical waste management is a crucial issue in the health system. RSUD Menggala of Tulang Bawang Regency is responsible for ensuring orderly and efficient waste management. However, challenges in solid medical waste management often arise, including limited resources and policy changes. A qualitative approach was used as a way to conduct descriptive research, and it was found that Menggala Regional Hospital has not fully complied with regulations according to Permenkes RI Number 7 of 2019 concerning Hospital Environment. Some optimisation strategies that can be proposed include increasing awareness, strengthening resources, strict supervision, external cooperation, and increasing HR capacity. With the right steps, RSUD Menggala can ensure regulatory compliance, reduce environmental risks, and improve patient and health worker safety. This research serves as a basis for RSUD Menggala in formulating more effective policies in solid medical waste management

Abstract

Law Number 24 of 2007 concerning Disaster Management is the main legal basis for disaster management in Indonesia. BNPB as one of its products has the functions of prevention, preparedness, emergency response, as well as disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction. A qualitative narrative approach was used to analyze BNPB's performance and produce follow-up recommendations. Its effectiveness also still varies due to differences in potential and challenges in various regions in Indonesia. A number of follow-up recommendations are provided in this article to improve BNPB's performance in disaster management in Indonesia. BNPB's performance in recent years has been quite good and needs to be appreciated. BNPB has succeeded in reducing the trend in the number of fatalities due to disasters, but it needs to improve in SPD technology through the CSR program. BNPB has succeeded in establishing Destana, but needs to look for more fundings such as from village fund allocations and encourage disaster education as local content in school curriculum. BNPB's performance in its emergency response has not optimal, overlapping regulations between the central and regional governments needs to be clarified. Meanwhile, disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction performance is more focused on short-term infrastructure and economic recovery. BNPB can coordinate with health services provided by BPJS Health which provides psychological and mental health services for long-term recovery of the social and psychological aspects of disaster victims.
