Abstract

This article describes the community service report that details how students at SMAN 19 Surabaya were trained to write English couplets in 2024. One type of English literary work, particularly poetry, is couplets, which are two lines of verse united in a rhyme. Writing couplets is a real example of this simplexity, where even seemingly straightforward elements can have a variety of intricate details. It is intriguing how different possibilities can be included in such brief couplet lines. According to Jeffrey Kluger, simplexity can be achieved through an exploratory strategy in qualitative research by developing a consciousness of complexity in writing and/or analyzing such straightforward topics. Expanding the notions to include any known and explorable contexts within is also necessary. By doing this, clarity may be recognized because it may represent this awareness of a system's dynamicity in even the most basic element. In this instance, highlighting specifics toward more general topics through couplet poetry helps to broaden the concept of simplexity. In conclusion, the composition of couplets by SMAN 19 Surabaya students not only illustrates the need of developing creativity in creating universal literary patterns, but also demonstrates how couplets are reflections of simplexity concepts.

Abstract

Greta Gerwig's 2023 movie Barbie offers a compelling exploration of the bonds of womanness within a fictional matriarchal society. This journal examines how these bonds are portrayed in the movie, analyzing their influence on the characters and narrative. By focusing on the concept of feminist sisterhood as stated by Bell Hooks, the paper explores how the movie’s depiction of solidarity and mutual support among women reflects and contributes to feminist discourse. Through qualitative method and explorative approach, the analysis considers how the bonds of womanness in Barbie Land not only shape the characters' experiences but also serve as a commentary on real-world gender dynamics. In conclusion, womanness shapes such influential bonds of shared experience and achievements among women, especially in the movie of Barbie.

Abstract

Abstract: Indonesia, located at the intersection of three major tectonic plates, faces a high risk of natural disasters, including tidal floods, landslides, and cyclones. Lamongan Regency, particularly Paciran and Brondong sub-districts, is a coastal area prone to tidal flooding due to rising sea levels, coastal erosion, and suboptimal water management. As an adaptation strategy, coastal communities rely on local wisdom, such as utilizing mangrove ecosystems and traditional practices. This study employs a review article method to analyze local wisdom in mitigating tidal floods. The findings show that mangrove planting and seawall construction effectively reduce flood risks. However, ecological-based mitigation remains limited, especially among low-income communities that prefer traditional strategies like building stilt houses. Integrating local wisdom into mitigation policies can enhance community resilience, with collaboration between governments, academics, and communities serving as a key success factor. Training in mangrove ecosystem management is also crucial for improving disaster preparedness. Combining local knowledge with modern technology can make disaster mitigation policies more effective in addressing the challenges of climate change and environmental degradation. Keywords: local wisdom, tidal floods, mangrove ecosystems, disaster mitigation Abstrak : Indonesia, yang berada di pertemuan tiga lempeng tektonik utama, menghadapi risiko bencana tinggi, termasuk banjir rob, tanah longsor, dan angin puting beliung.

Abstract

Gunungkidul is a production center of cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz), a carbohydrate source and raw material for food industry. AMF inoculation in cassava plants is known to increase biomass production. However, little studies have been conducted on the response of cassava to mycorrhizal inoculation and organic fertilizer. Therefore, this study was aimed at examining the effects of AMF inoculation and types of manure on the AMF colonization and yield of cassava in Gunungkidul. The research was carried out by planting cassava in Alfisol Gunungkidul arranged in a randomized complete block design with two factors, AMF doses of 25g; 50; and 75g/plant; and types of manure i.e. cow, goat, and poultry manure, for five months period. Rhizosphere soil and root samples were analyzed for AMF colonization and the spores number. The results showed that AMF-infected cassava roots combined with cow or goat manure application produced more spores than poultry manure. AMF infection and manure, thus, significantly resulted in better root proliferation, root forehead weight, tuber diameter, and cassava products, than the absence of both treatments. Cow manure combined with AMF at a dose of 25 g/plant significantly affected the dry weight of cassava roots. This study implies that applying AMF and manure provide a substantial contribution on the growth and production of cassava.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of various varieties and methods of irrigation on the response to rice growth and yield. The research was conducted in the Experimental Land of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, in January 2020. The study was conducted in the area using a factorial strip plot design in a Randomized Completely Block Design with three replications. Thirty-six experimental units were obtained. This research consists of two factors. Factor I consists of 4 methods of irrigation, namely continuous flooding, ten days flooding, six dry days, eight days flooding, eight dry days, and six days flooding, ten dry days. Factor II consists of 3 varieties: Ciherang, Cempo Hitam, and Mentik Susu. The observed parameters are the height of plants, number of tillers, leaves area, length of roots, fresh weight of plants, dry weight of plants, harvest index, panicle number, and weight of grain/ hectare. This study showed that Cempo Hitam and Mentik Susu varietas rice plants were higher, and the leaves were more expansive than the Ciherang variety. Irrigation does not affect plant height, number of tillers, leaf area, root length, or rice panicles. There is a mutual influence between variety with irrigation on the fresh and dry weight of rice plants, panicle length, harvest index, and yield per hectare of rice. A variety of Mentik Susu with conventional irrigation, ten days flooded, six days dry, six days flooded, and ten days dry, showed higher yields per hectare compared to the combination of other varieties and irrigations.
