Abstract

Bantiran Village, located in Pupuan District, Tabanan Regency, possesses significant agricultural and plantation potential, particularly in horticultural commodities such as durian, mangosteen, and cocoa. However, the high level of production also generates a considerable quantity of substandard fruits that do not meet market visual standards. This condition contributes to increased food loss at both the farmer and community levels. This Economy Social Activity (ESA) program aimed to utilize substandard fruits through product innovation by processing them into ice cream based on local resources. The methods employed included field observation, socialization, ice cream-making training, and evaluation. The activity was conducted on April 25, 2026, involving the local community of Bantiran Village, particularly members of the Family Welfare Empowerment (PKK) group and farmer groups. The results demonstrated an improvement in community understanding of the concept of substandard fruits, their processing potential, and practical skills in producing ice cream made from substandard cocoa fruits. The resulting product exhibited favorable taste, aroma, and texture characteristics and showed potential for commercialization as an additional source of income. This activity indicates that local resource-based product innovation can serve as an effective strategy to reduce food loss while enhancing the economic value of rural communities.

Abstract

This study investigates the need for developing integrated IPAS (Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam dan Sosial) teaching materials in vocational education, particularly within the culinary program. Addressing the gap between conceptual learning and vocational relevance, the study adopts a mixed-methods approach using a sequential explanatory design. Data were collected from nine IPAS teachers across five vocational schools in Lombok Island through a Likert-scale questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. The quantitative findings reveal that the availability and quality of existing teaching materials are low (mean = 2.11), whereas the need for Edupreneurship integration (mean = 4.33), Project Based Learning implementation (mean = 3.61), and authentic assessment development (mean = 4.67) are significantly high. Qualitative data further indicate that teachers face challenges in integrating interdisciplinary content, lack context-based instructional resources, and have not effectively linked learning to authentic culinary production processes. These findings underscore a critical mismatch between current instructional practices and the demands of vocational education. This study proposes an integrative framework of IPAS teaching materials that synergizes Project Based Learning, edupreneurship, and local culinary context to enhance students’ higher-order thinking skills and entrepreneurial competencies. This integrative approach constitutes the primary contribution of the study to vocational science education

Abstract

Low student motivation and learning outcomes are often attributed to the continued use of conventional teaching methods and the limited integration of interactive learning media. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model, assisted by the PhET Simulation, in improving the motivation and learning outcomes of eleventh-grade students on the acid–base topic. The research was conducted at SMAN 2 Praya using a quantitative approach with a pretest–posttest control group design. The samples were randomly selected, with class XI F1.1 serving as the experimental group, which received Project-Based Learning (PjBL) assisted by PhET Simulation, and class XI F1.2 serving as the control group, which received conventional instruction. Data were collected via a learning motivation questionnaire and psychomotor learning outcome assessments, and analyzed using MANOVA. The results showed that the average learning motivation score in the experimental class increased from 67.93 to 72.52, while learning outcomes improved from 33.34 to 84.37. In the control class, learning motivation changed from 63.80 to 73.93, and learning outcomes increased from 28.26 to 79.67. The MANOVA test yielded a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant simultaneous difference between the experimental and control groups in students’ motivation and learning outcomes. Therefore, the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model assisted by PhET Simulation was found to be effective in enhancing students’ motivation and learning outcomes in acid–base learning.
