Abstract

Silicate fertilizer is a micronutrient that is widely used by phytoplankton in its growth and development process. One type of microalgae that utilizes this nutrient is Skeletonema costatum. The growth of Skeletonema costatum is strongly influenced by the availability of nutrients, especially silicate, which functions in the formation of diatom cell walls. This research aims to determine the density level of Skeletonema costatum when applying silicate fertilizer at different doses on a laboratory scale. This research used an experimental method with four doses of silicate fertilizer, namely 3 ppm, 5ppm, 10ppm, 15ppm and 20ppm. The S. costatum culture was observed for 10 days under controlled laboratory conditions. The parameters observed were cell growth and density which were calculated every day using a hemocytometer. This research shows that applying silicate fertilizer at optimum doses can increase the growth of S. Costatum phytoplankton which is useful as natural food in aquaculture. The results of this study show that administration of silicate at a dose of 20 ppm was able to produce a cell density of 1.946.250 cells/ml. The growth of S. Costatum showed a significant increase in number, marked by the addition of 7-12 filaments. The most appropriate harvest time is in the exponential growth phase. Meanwhile, the results of measuring water quality parameters show values that are still within the optimal range for the growth of S. Costatum.

Abstract

The working area of Mangasa Public Health Center (Puskesmas Mangasa) is located in Makassar City, one of the metropolitan cities in Indonesia with a high population density. Based on data from the Makassar City Health Office, cases of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including stroke, have shown an increasing trend in recent years. The target partner group in this program is the Chronic Disease Management Program (Prolanis) community, consisting of patients with a history of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and other comorbidities that place them at high risk for stroke. Data from Puskesmas Mangasa indicate that over the past year, there has been a rise in stroke incidence among members of the Prolanis group. The majority of stroke patients suffer permanent disability due to delays in early treatment. This condition is exacerbated by the community’s limited knowledge of early stroke symptoms and the emergency actions that should be taken before receiving medical care at a health facility.Purpose of the Community Service Activity : To improve the knowledge, skills, and preparedness of the community—particularly Prolanis members—in early detection and emergency management of stroke. Identified Problems : There is a lack of understanding regarding stroke risk factors among the community, especially in recognizing the early signs of stroke using the FAST method (Face, Arm, Speech, Time). Many patients arrive at health facilities after the “golden period” (4.5 hours after stroke onset), resulting in a lower success rate of medical treatment. Proposed Solution : The community service activity is carried out through educational interventions on stroke emergencies. This community-based educational intervention is expected to enhance the knowledge, skills, and readiness of the community in managing stroke emergencies. Expected Outcomes of the Community Service The expected outcome is an increase in community knowledge, particularly among Prolanis members, about the importance of early detection and emergency management of stroke as an effort to reduce disability and mortality rates caused by stroke. Mandatory Output : Publication in a Community Service Journal. Additional Output: Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) registration for the “Stroke Early Detection Educational Flip Card.”Follow-Up Plan : A commitment will be established with the partner organization to ensure sustainability of the community service program.

Abstract

The development of the digital era and globalization has eroded Islamic values among students; therefore, student management based on Islamic values is necessary to strengthen religious character. This study aims to describe the implementation of student management grounded in Islamic values at SMA Islam HASMI for the 2025/2026 academic year, analyze its impact on strengthening students’ religious character, identify supporting and inhibiting factors, and formulate development strategies. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design conducted at SMA Islam HASMI. The subjects include the principal, vice principal for student affairs, teachers, and female students actively involved in religious activities. Data collection techniques consist of participatory observation, in-depth interviews based on the Spiritual Quotient (SQ) theory by Danah Zohar and Ian Marshall, as well as documentation of policies and activity reports. Data analysis applies source triangulation to ensure validity. The findings indicate that the implementation has been effective through daily habituation programs (Dhuha prayer, dhikr, Qur’anic recitation, short religious sermons), the application of a modest Islamic dress code, class-based mentoring (adaptation, time management, career guidance), personal checklists, and supervision by the student council. These practices align with the dimensions of Spiritual Quotient, including meaning in life, transcendence, empathy, and integrity. The overall success rate of the student affairs program reached 87%.

Abstract

Background of study: Bio-batteries represent an attractive energy solution utilizing organic substances to generate electrical energy. Organic waste materials, such as fruit peels, contain electrolytic compounds harnessed for bioelectricity generation. Cassava and papaya peels, rich in natural acids and carbohydrates, offer potential as low-cost, eco-friendly materials for bio-battery development. Aims and scope of paper: This study investigates the electrical performance and endurance of biobatteries made from cassava peel and papaya peel subjected to varying fermentation durations (0, 2, and 4 days). Methods: The study employed an experimental comparative approach using 1.5 V battery casings filled with fermented cassava and papaya peel pastes. Electrical parameters (voltage, current, and power) were measured using a digital multimeter. Additionally, endurance was tested by using the biobatteries to power a 1.2 W LED until discharge.Result: Cassava peel-based biobatteries showed higher electrical output than those based on papaya peel, especially after 4 days of fermentation. The cassava battery reached a peak voltage of 1.6 V and power of 0.107 mW, while papaya reached 1.57 V and 0.105 mW. Cassava peel biobatteries also demonstrated longer endurance, operating up to 27 hours compared to 21 hours for papaya. Conclusion: Fermentation enhances the electrical properties of fruit peel biobatteries, with 4 days as the optimal duration. Cassava peel is more effective than papaya peel due to its higher content of fermentable substrates and organic acids. This study supports the feasibility of using fermented fruit waste as sustainable bio-battery material and suggests further optimization for practical applications.
