Abstract

This paper examined the variant of Islamic movement with biographical point of view to three muslims figures, namely Abdullah Sungkar (the founder of Jemaah Islamiyah), Abdullah Marzuki (the founder of Majelis Pengajian Islam), and Abdullah Thufail Saputro (the founder of Majelis Tafsir Al-Qur’an). They have been known as the “Triple A”. They have been being very influential in the dynamics of Islam in Surakarta since the 1970s until today. They have worked together to spread the teachings of Islam in many religious activities. Applying qualitative approach and using documentation study, it was founded that due to many differences in intellectual backgrounds and ideological orientations of each other that lead them to choose different strategies to realize the ideal Islamic society. The first figure selected resistant position and fight against the hegemony of the state, the second figure chose neutral and do not care about political issues, and the third figure to choose the path of accommodative policy of the state.***Artikel ini membahas tentang varian gerakan Islam di Surakarta dengan pen­dekat­an biografi tokoh. Tokoh yang dijadikan objek kajian adalah Abdullah Sungkar (pendiri gerakan Jamaah Islamiyah), Abdullah Marzuki (pendiri Majelis Pengajian Islam), dan Abdullah Thufail Saputro (pendiri gerakan Majelis Tafsir Al-Quran). Tiga tokoh ini dikenal oleh masyarakat dengan sebutan Tiga A. Pemikiran dan lembaga mereka sangat berpengaruh dalam dinamika perkembangan dan dakwah Islam di Surakarta pada tahun 1970-an hingga sekarang. Mereka pernah bekerja sama dalam lembaga dakwah. Dengan pendekatan kualitatif dan kajian dokumen ditemukan bahwa karenas beberapa perbedaan latar belakang, pandangan, dan orientasi ideologi menjadikan mereka berpisah dan membentuk gerakan sendiri-sendiri. Abdullah Sungkar memilih jalur berseberangan dengan negara, Abdullah Marzuki memilih jalur pendidikan pesantren dan tidak berpolitik, sedangkan Abdullah Thufail Saputro memilih jalur akomodasi dan bekerjasama dengan negara.

Abstract

Kyai Haji Bashir Ahmad Azhar, MA is known as a scholar-intellectual who once owned Muhammadiyah. He grew up in communities that hold on religious values, in Kauman. Throughout his life was spent in education and da?wah. Educated in boarding schools and formal education at home and abroad. His intelectual career showed through his profession as a lecturer and leader of Muhammadiyah organisation. His thoughts a reference to address the various problems of the people. His thinking is outlined in a number of books, including the field of jurisprudence, philosophy of Islamic law and Islamic economics. His position as chairman of Muhammadiyah  marks the transition process from the clerical leadership to intellectual models.

Abstract

This paper discusses about the expansion of the MTA, as a puritan movement,in the countryside, with a sociological approach and a theory about the characteristicsof the purification. MTA is a purification movement, based on the Jama?ah and Imamateteachings. The implementation of the Imamate doctrine makes all followers of thepeasants, workers, and employees very obedient to a single leader. Their following iscaused by internal and external factors. The internal factors include the expertise of themissionary actors in dialogic preaching, the application of Imamate teaching, and socialsolidarity and brotherhood among the followers. The external factors included the moreopening chances for the Islamic missionary movements as the implications ofdemocratization. The relationship pattern between the elite and the followers is moreinfluenced by the charisma of the leader or authority positioned as an Imam to befollowed. The most prominent follower development pattern is that of sermons, whichcover general, branch, group (usrah), and special group sermons.Key words: Islamic puritanism, rural areas, Majlis Tafsir Al-Quran (MTA)Makalah ini membahas perkembangan Majlis Tafsir Al-Quran (MTA)sebagaigerakan puritan di pedesaan, dengan pendekatan sosiologis dan teori tentangkarakteristik gerakan purifikasi. MTA merupakan gerakan purifikasi yang berbasispada ajaran jamaah dan imamah. Pengikut dari kalangan petani, buruh, dan pegawaisangat taat kepada pemimpin tunggal. Kepengikutan mereka disebabkan faktor internaldan eksternal. Faktor internal meliputi kepiawaian aktor dalam berdakwah secaradialogis, penerapan ajaran imamah, dan ukhuwah atau solidaritas sosial antarpengikut.Faktor eksternal meliputi semakin terbukanya gerakan dakwah Islam sebagai implikasidari demokratisasi. Pola hubungan pengikut dan elite lebih dipengaruhi oleh kharismaatau kewibawaan pemimpin diposisikan sebagai imam yang wajib diikuti. Polapembinaan warga yang paling utama adalah melalui pengajian, yaitu pengajian umum,pengajian cabang, pengajian kelompok (usrah), pengajian gelombang khususi.Kata kunci: Islam puritan, pedesaan, Majlis Tafsir Al-Quran

Abstract

This article discusses about the position of Mohammad Natsir in the dynamicof inter-religions relationship in Indonesia. Natsiris well-known as the public figure havinga great attention to the efforts for developing the life of peaceful religions in Indonesia.The efforts can be seen from his works and ideas. Natsir asks all people and leaders to usethe different religions as the potency to develop the peaceful life by having different religions.The religion Missionaries that break down the rules or government?s regulation becomesthe cause of the stress and inter-religions conflict. To create the peaceful life among thepeople with different religions, Natsir proposes the vivendimodus that consists of: thedifferent religious-people in Indonesia should live together harmonically, tolerance andappreciative each other, having priority on national development, avoiding the religionwar, and stressing on justice and religion diversity.Key Words: Mohammad Natsir; inter-religions relationship; religion diversity.Makalah ini membahas tentang posisi Mohammad Natsir dalam dinamikahubungan antaragama di Indonesia. Natsir dikenal sebagai tokoh yang memilikiperhatian besar dalam upaya membangun kehidupan keagamaan yang damai diIndonesia. Berbagai usahanya dapat dilihat dari pemikiran dan karya-karyanya. Natsirmengajak segenap pemimpin dan umat beragama memanfaatkan keragaman agamasebagai potensi untuk membangun kehidupan keagamaan yang damai. Misionarisagama-agama yang melanggar ketentuan atau peraturan pemerintah menjadi penyebabketegangan dan konflik antaragama. Untuk menciptakan kehidupan umat antaragamayang damai Natsir mengusulkan adanya modus vivendi yang meliputi: antara pemelukberagama di Indonesia supaya hidup berdampingan secara baik, saling menghargaidan toleransi, mengutamakan kepentingan pembangunan nasional, menghindariterjadinya perang agama, dan menekankan keadilan dalam keragaman beragama.Kata Kunci: Mohammad Natsir; hubungan agama-agama; Indonesia.

Abstract

Nur Hidayah integrated Islamic high school Surakarta is an educational institution that provides dormitories. Several years ago there were not as many students living as now. Nearly 80% of students live in guesthouses. This study aims to identify and examine the roles of supervisors (musyrif) on student achievement. This research is field research conducted by Integrated Islamic High School (SMA IT) Nur Hidayah Surakarta. This research is implementing interviews, observation, and documentation and then using a phenomenological and analytical approach. This study showed that this school tended to use democratic parenting. In educational institutions, no parenting style only uses one pattern, so in fact, educational institutions apply moderate parenting or combine all parenting patterns with a divided composition. The special role of the supervisor members (musyrif) at Nur Hidayah is to implement a home learning system. The special feature of this system allows students to be more intense to interact with the surrounding community. This system makes it possible for them to be prepared in real life. Given that intellectual intelligence is no longer the main thing, there must be a balance between social and emotional intelligence. Nur Hidayah's musyrif parenting provides opportunities and stimuli for students to be able to develop academic and non-academic abilities. Specific positive activities that exist in each type of Dormitory will support their development in learning such as taḥfiz, foreign language practice, and so on. Besides that, the composition of moderate parenting (combining three styles of parenting) that has been made in such a way will make fostering, supervision, learning, and education more effective and efficient.

Abstract

This paper discusses the on-going process of re-Islamisation in Java. In the context of re-Islamisation process, a Muslim is expected to be a pious one, both from the aspect of belief, knowledge, and practice. The process is characterized by the intensification of Islamic ritual practice and the enforcement of Islamic norms in various aspects of life. Additionally, it is accompanied by the deterioration of animism—as represented by amulets, heirlooms and shamanism—which are popular among abangan communities. Amulet is a peculiar feature in the belief and life system of Javanese society, namely the belief in the magical objects used by the owner to gain power, convenience, and magnificence. In Surakarta, the phenomenon of the decline of ‘magical’ amulets is perceived as the conversion process from abangan to santri. Yet it is a dissimilar kind of conversion compared to the previous ones.It reaffirms that in Java, Islamisation is an unending process nuanced by the volatility of socio-political and cultural dynamics. Artikel ini membahas proses reislamisasi di masyarakat Jawa yang saat ini masihterus berlangsung. Reislamisasiadalah proses dimana seorang muslim menjadilebih islami, baik dari aspek keyakinan, pengetahuan, maupun pengamalanajaran agama. Reislamisasi ditandai denganmenguatnya pengamalan ritualIslam dan ditegakkannya norma-norma Islam dalam berbagai aspek kehidupan.Dalam waktu yang samadiiukutimelemahnya kepercayaan animistik, sepertikepercayaan pada jimat, pusaka dan perdukunan di kalangan masyarakatabangan. Jimat merupakan salah satu ciri penting dalam sistem kepercayaandan kehidupan masyarakat Jawa, yakni kepercayaan kepada benda-bendayang dikeramatkan yang digunakan pemiliknya untuk memperoleh kekuatan,kenyamanan, kemuliaan hidup. Di Surakarta terdapat fenomena komunitasabanganmeninggalkan jimat sebagai bagian dari proses konversi dari abanganmenuju ke santri.Ini merupakan konversi baru yang berbeda dengan konversilama. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa proses islamisasi di Jawa sebagai prosesyang terus berlangsung mengikuti dinamika sosio-politik dan kultural yangberkembang di Jawa.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the studies of the Muhammadiyah movement. Scholars have condukted research, observations, and discussions of the Movement. This research is not limited the Muhammadiyah as an Islamic movement, but also its role as economic,educational, and socio-political movement. Research and discussion on the various dimensions of Muhammadiyah are called "Muhammadiyah Studies". By hitoriographical approach, there are three stages of development in the Muhammadiyah Studies. First, study of the fundamental of islamic teaching (1912-1950). Sceond, the preriod wich the Muhammadiyah Studies as a part of modern islamic studies (1950-200). Thrid, after 200s, Muhammadiyah Studies is Characterized by new themes as a part of papular culture.

Abstract

Makalah ini membahas tentang pentingnya penguatan ideologi Muhammadiyah untuk membangun soliditas internal. Dalam beberapa tahun terakhir terdengar gejala menurunnya semangat dalam memahami khittah di kalangan warga Muhammadiyah sehingga banyak yang tertarik dengan model dan ideologi gerakan lain. Di kalangan  bawah ditemukan beberapa faktor yang membuka peluang adanya migrasi warga Muhammadiyah ke gerakan lain. Faktor yang dimaksud adalah konflik internal diantara pimpinan, keinginan sebagian warga untuk menghidupkan kembali Muhammadiyah berbasis pengajian, dan semakin memendarnya otoritas ulama utamanya munculnya “ulama muda”.  Seluruh aktivis Muhammadiyah harus terus menggelorakan semangat penguatan ikatan internal tanpa kehilangan visi mondial.
