Abstract

This study investigates the correlation between self-awareness and English-speaking ability among second-grade students at SMAN 3 Majene, Indonesia. Employing a quantitative correlational design, the research examined 17 students selected through cluster random sampling from a population of 51. Data were collected using a self-awareness questionnaire assessing emotional awareness, self-assessment, and self-confidence, alongside a speaking ability test. Results revealed high levels of self-awareness among participants, with most reaching the "permanent" level, indicating strong self-reflection capabilities. Speaking abilities were predominantly rated as "good." However, statistical analysis showed a weak correlation between self-awareness and speaking ability, challenging the assumption of a direct link between these variables. This finding suggests that while self-awareness may contribute to internal motivation, it does not automatically translate to enhanced speaking performance in this EFL context. The study highlights the need for comprehensive pedagogical strategies that complement self-awareness development with targeted language instruction to improve EFL speaking skills effectively.

Abstract

This study explores the effectiveness of using English song lyrics from TikTok as a medium to improve students’ pronunciation skills. Employing a quasi-experimental design, the research involved 38 eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri Limboro in the 2024/2025 academic year. Participants were divided into two groups: an experimental group received instruction using selected TikTok English song lyrics, while the control group was taught using conventional methods. Data were collected through pre-tests, post-tests, and student questionnaires. Statistical analysis using SPSS showed a significant improvement in the pronunciation scores of the experimental group compared to the control group. The mean N-Gain score of 58.4% indicates a moderate level of effectiveness. Furthermore, students’ responses to the questionnaire demonstrated positive perceptions toward the use of English songs on TikTok as a learning tool. The findings suggest that integrating digital media, particularly short-form social platforms like TikTok, can enhance pronunciation instruction and motivate learners. This study contributes to the growing field of digital-assisted language learning and provides insights for teachers seeking innovative methods to support pronunciation development in EFL classrooms.

Abstract

This study discusses the performance of Ethaline Glycol/water (EG/H2O) fluids at a volume ratio of 40/60. EG/H2O fluids are widely used as basic fluids in cooling and heating system applications. The discussion of EG/H2O fluid performance is focused on the analysis of the heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop. The study used an experimental method using a suction test made of pure copper with an inner diameter, outer diameter and length of 16 mm, 19 mm and 1500 mm respectively. The EG/H2O volume ratio at 40/60 was selected as the input parameter. Other input parameters are variations in the fluid flow rate which are regulated using a control valve at fluid flow rates of 4, 6, 8, 10.12, 14.16 and 18 liters/minute. A 2-unit tubular heater with a total capacity of 2000 W was installed on the sides of the copper pipes. A voltage regulator with a capacity of 3000 W is used to regulate the electric power by regulating the supplied voltage. Ampere pliers are used to measure amperage at the setting used. The experimental results show that the performance of the EG/H2O fluid on the heat transfer coefficient increases as the fluid flow rate increases. The highest heat transfer coefficient rate was obtained at a fluid flow rate of 18 L/minute, while the lowest value was obtained at a fluid flow rate of 4 L/minute. Pressure drops fluctuations occur as the fluid flow rate increases. Even though there is a fluctuating pressure drop, this condition does not significantly affect the friction factor, because the fluid flow characteristics occur in a turbulent manner

Abstract

Rice is important staple food in the world. One important input in rice production is seed vigor, is determined by seed characteristics such as seed size and shape. The Digital image processing could facilitate observations of seed size faster, large samples, produce accurate, and robust data. However, this study was designed to investigate size of seed, endosperm and embryo of 55 tropical rice genotypes using image analysis and correlation anlysis between characters. A total of 400 seeds, 40 endosperms, and 8 embryos containing each genotype were investigated for their size characteristics. The results of the investigation showed that genotype differences had a significant effect on size of seed, endosperm and embryo. The length of tropical rice seeds is included in the medium-very long seeds and has a significant positive correlation (α <0.01) with the weight of 1000 grain grains, seed area, shape of the seed (length-to-width ratio), and endosperm length. Embryo size characters (length, width, area, and circumference) have a significant positive correlation (α <0.05) with seed area. The results can be considered in the crop improvement of tropical rice plants in the future.

Abstract

The objective of this experiment was to identify the growth and production of rice varieties as responses to drought period in low land rice system. Rice plants were grown under plastic house in plots separated by massive walls. Drought periods were treated as main plots, i.e. water was supplied during 3, 6, and 9 weeks after rice transplanting, and control (cultivation without drought treatment). Rice varieties were used as sub plots, consisted of IR64 and Ciherang (low land improved varieties), IPB-3S (new plant type), Menthik Wangi (an aromatic local low land rice), Rokan (a hybrid rice), Way Apo Buru (amphibian type), Jatiluhur and Silugonggo (up land type). Our results showed that drought periods suppressed plant height, tiller number, spikelets length, weight of 1,000 grains, shoot dry weight and harvest index, and increased number of empty spikelets. Interaction between drought periods and rice varieties significantly affected productive tiller number, percentage of plants to flower, and grain weight per hill. Jatiluhur, Ciherang and Way Apo Buru still gave relatively high yields under drought stress indicated that those varieties were relatively tolerant to drought stress; Silugonggo and IPB-3S had medium tolerance to drought stress; IR64, Menthik Wangi and Rokan were the most sensitive varieties. Abstract

ABSTRACTThe availability of nitrogen in soil is one of the limiting factors to support growth and rice productivity. Nitrogen-fixing bacteria have ability to utilize air nitrogen so it becomes available in the soil. The use of nitrogen-fixing bacteria could potentially reduce application of nitrogen fertilizer. The aim of the experiment was to determine the role of nitrogen-fixing bacteria in reducing inorganic N fertilizer on lowland rice. The research was conducted in April-August 2012 at the plastic house of Babakan Sawah Baru Experimental Station, IPB. The experiment was arranged in randomized block design with two factors, namely nitrogen fertilizer and type of bacteria. The dosage of N fertilizer (urea), i.e. 0, 50, 75 and 100 kg N ha-1. The types of bacteria, i.e. without bacteria, Azotobacter-like, Azospirillum-like, and consortium. The result of the experiment showed that N fertilization significantly affected to all variables except the percentage of empty grains per panicle, 1,000 grain weight, and N content of plant. The types of bacteria significantly affected to root dry weight, number of filled grain per panicle, greenness of leaf, uptake and content of nitrogen (shoot and grain), grain weight per plot. Consortium of bacteria were capable to reduce 25% the use of inorganic N fertilizer from recommendation doses (100 kg N ha-1) that based on the value of agronomic effectiveness. Keywords: Azospirillum-like, Azotobacter-like, consortium of bacteria

Abstract

Global climate change will imply to increase in atmospheric temperature, which can affect the sensitive stadia and decrease rice yield. The objective of this research was to study the growth and production of rice varieties under hightemperature stress. This research was conducted using a split-plot design under partitioned polyethylene house in order to create temperature differences among main-plots. The partitioned treatment successfully increased by 1.7 °C of average temperature with a maximum temperature of 35.0 °C (T1) and 37.6 °C (T2). Rice varieties, namely IR64, Ciherang, IPB-3S, Way Apo Buru, Jatiluhur, Menthik Wangi and Silugonggo were randomized as sub-plot. The results showed that increasing temperature had no significant effect on plant height, tiller number, SPAD-value, leaf area index, and crop growth rate, but significantly decreased 1,000 grains weight by 4.57% and harvest index by 20%. The interaction between temperature and varieties significantly affected a percentage of a productive tiller and partially filled spikelets. Ciherang variety produced the lowest percentage of productive tillers on T2 by 57.6%. Way Apo Buru variety produced the lowest percentage of partially filled spikelets on T2 by 3.01%.
