Abstract

Mangrove, as one of the most unique ecosystems, is a great natural resource potential with high productivity and biodiversity able to adapt to harsh areas between the sea and coast. Its destruction rate is very mild as it is estimated to 1% each year (Ong et al., 1991) and 0.7-3% per year (Pedleton et al., 2012). The destruction of mangrove is usually related with human population density (Alongi, 2002). Widespread mangrove destruction affects the loss of biodiversity and other resources and the functioning of the ecosystem. The huge potential of mangrove must be preserved by managing, maintaining and providing costs to protect and improve ecosystems. This study aims to measure Kuala Langsa community members’ willingness to pay for the preservation and repairationof degrading mangrove. To achieve this goal, Contingent valuation methods was used in this study. Of the 131 respondents involved in this study, 112 or 85.496%  are willing to pay for the preservation of mangrove. While those unwilling to pay account for 19 or 4.504% . WTP with the households 669 earned by  is Rp 18,821,512,200/month or Rp 225,858,146,400/year.

Abstract

A Watershed is a land area that is an ecosystem unit with rivers and their tributaries that function to accommodate, store, and drain water that comes from rainfall to lakes or seas naturally, whose boundaries on land are topographical and separator boundary in the sea up to the watering area which is still affected by land activities. Characteristics and ecological conditions of the watershed environment are influenced by changes in spatial use patterns with reduced land cover in the watershed area will affect watershed conditions. Human intervention with various activities, especially economic, industrial and residential activities in the upstream to downstream watershed areas affects the water cycle (hydrological cycle) as well as the quality and quantity of the aquatic ecology of the watershed environment. Efforts to maintain the availability of green open space in the watershed area is one of the important things to be able to maintain and maintain water ecology in the Cisadane watershed in addition to various efforts to maintain the water quality of the watershed so that various unique aquatic biota can still be maintained and well maintained. The involvement of local governments, stakeholders, and the community is one of the most important things in preserving and maintaining the environmental conditions of watersheds.

Abstract

The Musi Watershed as a priority watershed is also contained in the Decree of the Minister of Forestry No. SK.328/Menhut-II/2009. The Musi watershed with an area of about a million ha is one of the 108 watersheds in Indonesia that was designated by the Minister of Forestry Decree No. SK.328/MenhutII/2009 as a priority watershed because of its critical condition. This condition is indicated by the area of critical land with a moderately critical to very critical category which reaches 1.7 million ha. Another indication is that the remaining forest cover in South Sumatra is 1,346.8 ha (± 15.6% of the total area of South Sumatra). Musi watershed is simply an area unit that drains water to the same point which is influenced by various ecosystems in it, such as Peatland is a unique ecosystem that has economic value, ecological value, and environmental function, and downstream there is a Mangrove ecosystem and Estuaries, this ecosystem from ecological and environmental functions, among others, has a high biodiversity value, a hydrological function in the management of storage and release of water, as well as a carbon storage function. South Sumatra has a peat area of 14 million ha or 16.3% of the total area, and this condition is one of the potential natural resources to be managed and utilized for the benefit and welfare of the entire community.

Abstract

Rivers are bodies of water that are elongated on the earth's surface that are naturally formed, ranging from small ones upstream to large downstream ones. In Padang Panjang City, 10 rivers flow, 6 rivers in West Padang Panjang District, and 4 rivers in East Padang Panjang District. Data from the analysis of river water quality in Padang Panjang City was obtained from secondary data, namely data from river water quality tests conducted by the Padang Panjang City Environment Service in March 2021 and from various other official sources such as journals and articles. The value of water quality in Padang Panjang City, in general, meets the Quality Standards based on PP No. 82/2001, but there are several sources whose values are below the established Quality Standards. The use of surface water for various activities according to water quality standards using physical, chemical, and biological parameters can be grouped into several parts, including human consumption, water recreation, fisheries, industry, and agriculture.
