Abstract

AbstractGeneral background: Small-scale poultry farming in rural Indonesia faces challenges of low productivity and environmental pollution due to traditional feeding practices. Specific background: In Sepande Village, Sidoarjo, Muscovy duck (Cairina moschata) farmers struggle with suboptimal growth performance and unpleasant waste odor, exacerbated by high feed costs. Knowledge gap: While local feed resources and herbal additives have been studied, the integration of nano herbal technology into fermented feed for Muscovy ducks has not been explored. Aims: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of nano-extract meniran (Phyllanthus niruri) as a feed additive in fermented pellet feed to enhance productivity and reduce waste odor. Results: Application of 1–3% nano meniran in duck feed led to a 50% increase in body weight (from 1.5 kg to 2.27–3.0 kg within three months), a 30% increase in farmer income, and a 93.75% improvement in regular odor-control practices, while significantly reducing waste odor intensity. Novelty: This is the first integration of nanotechnology-based herbal additives with fermented local feed formulations for Muscovy ducks. Implications: The innovation supports food security, farmer welfare, and sustainable livestock management, offering an eco-friendly model for poultry production in developing regions. Highlight: Nano meniran feed boosts duck growth by up to 50%. Odor reduction improves farm environment and sustainability. Farmers’ income increases by around 30%. Abstract

The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of pomegranate (Punica granatul l) fruit extract for spermatozoa quality including the motility, viability and membrane integrity of spermatozoa. The researchused 20 male white rats  (Rattus norvegicus) with 200-300 gram average body weight. P0 as control was given with CMC Na 0.5%.  P1 used 75 mg/kg BW dose of extract,  P2used 150 mg/kg BW dose of extract,  P3 used 300 mg/kg BW dose of extract. The treatment was given perorally for 14 days. The experiment was used completely random design (CRD). The result of this study was analyzed with ANOVA followed by Tukey Test (p<0.05). The result showed that there was significant effect from therapy on the quality of rats spermatozoa. The difference of spermatozoa's concentration between first treatment group P1 and control treatment group is not significant, while the treatment other result showed between the second treatment group and the control group P0. A significant difference occurs in the percentage of motility, viability and  membrane integrity. The treatment from P2 group showed the best result in maintaining the quality of rats spermatozoa.

Abstract

West Kalimantan Province is one of the provinces that has a large area of oil palm plantations which can become integrated cattle farms. Oil palm plantations provide a source of feed that comes from palm oil processing waste and green grass around the oil palm trees. However, this waste contained not sufficient nutrients if given directly, so needed feed processing to increase the nutrition. The community service team from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universitas Airlangga carried out activities to increase the knowledge and skills of farmers in processing palm oil waste feed and carried out reproductive examination activities on female cattle. The output target to be achieved is increasing the ability of farmers to make feed from palm oil waste that can sufficient for livestock nutritional needs and increased of reproductive health of cows. This activity held on 20 – 23 July 2023 in Tonang Village, District. Sengah Temila, Kab. Landak, West Kalimantan. The activity was attended by 40 participants consisting of breeders, medical officers and veterinarians from the Dinas Ketahanan Pangan, Pertanian dan Perikanan Kabupaten Landak dan Dinas Perkebunan dan Peternakan Provinsi Kalimantan Barat. The first day's activities were carried out by delivering outreach and training materials on processing palm oil waste feed through silage and fermentation methods, making UMB and UMMB, and carrying out reproductive examinations and treatment of female cattle. The outcomes that have been achieved include increasing farmers' understanding and skills regarding how to make silage and palm frond fermentation, as well as UMB and UMMB as additional feed. Health and reproductive disorders examination of female cattle were carried out on 2 female cattle belonging to the Koperasi Produsen Landak Mandiri and 17 female cattle belonging to the Alam Raya Hijau Group. Based on the examination, data was obtained that 7 cows were pregnant, 1 cow had endometritis, and 11 cows were declared to be in normal reproductive condition. The conclusion that can be drawn from this activity is that the participants' knowledge about the given topic increases and the reproductive health of female cattle can be handled with appropriate examination and treatment.

Abstract

Wound is the loss of tissue caused by trauma due to wounds exposed to cuts, collisions, or chemicals, wounds can cause a person to lose productivity during the wound healing process,in addition to good wound care methods to accelerate the wound healing process, it is necessary to have a reliable wound healing monitoring method and not be an additional risk of infection in the wound, imitomeasure software based on the android system can be a safe wound measurement solution and does not provide additional risk of infection in the wound. In the test results by comparing the use of software, verniers and rulers, the results were not significantly different (P>0.05) in the independent sample T test so it can be concluded that the use of imitomeasure software is quite accurate when compared to conventional measurementmethods, besides that this software is very easy and can run on any android and ios-based smartphone so that it can be used by all health personnel.

Abstract

Aquaponics is a closed recirculating aquaculture method combined with hydroponics. This method is very alternative for raising fish while growing plants in specially designed media. The mechanism obtained is very effective and efficient, plants can utilize fish waste as nutrients for plant growth. Poisonous fish waste in ponds can be reduced by plants as nutrients for organic substances. This can enhance profitable bio-integrated food production systems. Plants will serve as vegetation filters. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of aquaponic treatment in high-salinity water by observing the growth in three species of seaweed namely Gracilaria sp., Sargassum sp., and Kappaphycus alvarezii. The research design used the LSD method and was carried out for 63 days. Data analysis using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) then continued with the test Duncan's Multiple Range Test. The research method involved making aquaponic media including preparing containers for seaweed cultivation and fish and shrimp farming, observing seaweed growth rates, and measuring water quality. Aquaponic treatment can increase the growth rate of intensively cultivated seaweed. The results showed the best weight growth rate in the aquaponic treatment of Gracilaria sp. with a value of 12.33 grams than Kappaphycus alvarezii 11.33 grams and Sargassum sp. 10.83 grams.
