Abstract

Introduction: PT. X is a company that concentrates on the agricultural sector by producing ammonia and urea fertilizers. Occupational accidents at PT.X are reported and recorded by the Department of Occupational Health and Safety, one of which is a form of monitoring the performance of the BBS program at PT. X. The research objective was to determine the performance of the Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) program in reducing occupational accidents due to unsafe actions at PT.X. Methods: This study is an observational study. Determination and sampling in this study used accidental sampling technique for safety officers as many as 5 respondents, while the cluster sampling technique was used for the workforce of 95 respondents. The data analysis method used was descriptive semi-quantitative. Results: The results showed the fulfillment of the criteria and maturity level of behavior-based safety at PT. X, In general, PT X was already at level 4, namely "High Performing" with an average of 3.5. Meanwhile, the work accident rate analysis using the Safe T-score of PT. X was in the category between +2.0 and -2.0, meaning that the number of occupational accidents at PT. X after implementing behavior-based safety did not experience any significant changes. Conclusion: The performance of the behavior-based safety (BBS) program in reducing occupational accidents due to unsafe actions at PT. X in 2019 was effective even though the maturity level of the application of BBS was still not at the high performance level criteria on all criteria, and there was still no significant change in the reduction of the number of occupational accidents.

Abstract

Introduction: Safety-based leadership style has a positive relationship with the workplace safety climate in a company. Transactional leadership has a direct positive relationship with work safety participation and has an indirect relationship with work safety climate. In a phosphoric acid industry especially in 2019, the achievement of sulfuric acid production decreased from 2019 to 2020. The gap range was caused by leadership factors. This study has an objective to analyze the overview of safety climate based on safety leadership in the phosphoric acid industry. Methods: This research used a cross-sectional quantitative survey. The respondents comprised of 44 personnel. The independent factors in this investigation were the dimensions of leadership style and the dependent variable in this study wasthe condition of the work safety climate in each work group in the creation unit. The analysis used NOSACQ-50 radar plot analysis. Results: Of all perceptions of consideration leadership style, eitherin the high, very high, or enough categories, the dimension of work safety justice had the lowest score. The highest dimension of work safety climate was in the dimension of management safety priority and ability, especially in the perception of a high and very high initiating structure leadership style. Conclusion: A very high perception of the consideration leadership style had a work safety climate that had a higher score when compared to the high and sufficient perception. The highest dimension of work safety climate was in the dimensions of management safety priority and ability, especially in the perception of a high and very high initiating structure leadership style.

Abstract

Introduction: Work accidents can occur due to two factors, namely unsafe human behavior and unsafe environmental conditions. One of the unsafe human behavior is work fatigue. In addition, work fatigue can also reduce productivity so that it can have a bad impact on the company. This study aims to determine the strength of the relationship and the direction of the correlation between nutritional status and work postures with work fatigue on crane operators. Method: This research is included in the type of descriptive observational research with a cross-sectional approach. The sample of this study was taken using total sampling, namely all the population of 30 people. The independent variables in this study were nutritional status and body postures, while the dependent variable was work fatigue. The data were analyzed using the Spearman's correlation coefficient (Spearman rank's correlation coefficient) to see the value of the correlation coefficient. Results: The correlation coefficient between nutritional status and work fatigue was -0.169, which means there was a very weak relationship with a negative direction. Meanwhile, the strength of the relationship between work postures and work fatigue can be seen in the correlation coefficient of 0.671, which means there was a strong relationship with a positive direction. Conclusion: Workers with overweight and obese nutritional status wwere more relaxed at work and did not pursue daily targets so that the fatigue experienced was classified as moderate. In addition, poor work postures can cause severe work fatigue.

Abstract

Introduction: Informal workers in Garment Asia Raya of Banyuwangi continue their work activities during the COVID-19 pandemic. These informal workers in Garment Asia Raya Banyuwangi are, therefore, vulnerable to the transmission of COVID-19. The implementation of health protocols must be carried out to prevent and minimize the risk of COVID-19 transmission. However, the workers have not fully implemented health protocols. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship of knowledge and attitudes with workers’ behavior in the implementation of health protocols. Methods: This study was a quantitative study with a cross-sectional research design. The research population was 50 informal workers in Garment Asia Raya Banyuwangi, using the total sampling technique. The variables studied were knowledge, attitudes and behavior in the implementation of health protocols. The data collection used a questionnaire sheet that had been tested for validity and reliability. The data analysis technique used was descriptive analysis and Spearman correlation analysis. Results: Most of the workers had a low category of knowledge. Most of the workers had a moderate attitude towards the implementation of health protocols. Moreover, most of the workers had poor behavior in implementing health protocols. The results showed a positive relationship with a weak correlation level between knowledge and attitudes with the behavior of implementing health protocols. Conclusion: It can be concluded that the higher the knowledge and attitudes of workers, the better the workers’ behavior in implementing health protocols.

Abstract

This research was conducted to see the effectiveness of the procurement of work music on labor productivity. This study uses a systematic review method by finding 15 types of research articles, research articles are considered inclusion criteria based on PICOS (Population, Intervention, Comparison, Study Design Results, Year of Publication, and Language) as follows: 1) human sample, 2) work music intervention, 3) comparison of giving work music and not giving work music, 4) results: work productivity, 5) research articles, 6) articles published in 2012 until 2022, 7) in English and Indonesian. Procurement of work music is associated with increased worker productivity. This is indicated by research relevant to the increase in productivity. A 2014 study found that music had a significant effect on work morale and work productivity. This is also reinforced by evidence that the higher the morale, the higher the productivity of the workforce. Based on the results of a systematic review conducted, it shows that occupational safety and health programs in the form of procurement of work music are able to increase worker productivity found in various types of work so that they can optimally increase the benefits of the employer agency. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk melihat efektifitas pengadaan musik kerja terhadap produktivitas kerja tenaga kerja. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode systematic review dengan menemukan 15 jenis artikel penelitian, artikel penelitian dianggap kriteria inklusi berdasarkan PICOS (Populasi, Intervensi, Perbandingan, Hasil Desain Studi, Tahun Publikasi, dan Bahasa) sebagai berikut: 1) sampel manusia, 2) intervensi musik kerja, 3) perbandingan pemberian musik kerja dan tidak pemberian musik kerja, 4) hasil: produktivitas kerja, 5) artikel penelitian, 6) artikel yang diterbitkan pada 2012 sampai 2022, 7) dalam bahasa Inggris dan bahasa Indonesia. Pengadaan musik kerja berhubungan dengan peningkatan produktivitas pekerja. Hal ini ditunjukkan dengan penelitian relevan dengan peningkatan produktivitas tersebut. Penelitian 2014 menyebutkan bahwa ditemukannya pengaruh signifikan musik terhadap semangat kerja dan produktivitas kerja. Hal ini juga diperkuat dengan bukti semakin tinggi semangat kerja maka akan meningkatkan produktivitas kerja tenaga kerja. Berdasarkan hasil systematic review yang dilakukan menunjukkan program keselamatan dan kesehatan kerja berupa pengadaan musik kerja mampu meningkatkan produktivitas pekerja yang ditemukan pada berbagai jenis pekerjaan yang ada sehingga mampu meningkatkan keuntungan instansi pemberi kerja secara optimal.

Abstract

Introduction: Phosphoric acid companies have risks that can lead to work accidents. There are several factors that influence the occurrence of work accidents, one of which is organizational and management factors. Leadership style is a factor in the work safety climate which leads to work accidents and work productivity. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between leadership style and work safety climate in the Phosphoric Acid Plant at Phosphoric Acid Industry. Methods: The type of this research is descriptive quantitative research and through a cross-sectional approach to 44 workers at the Phosphoric Acid Plant. The variables of this study including safety leadership style and work safety climate. The data collection method used was secondary data obtained from the company’s annual data and as well as the primary data using the Leader Behavior Description Questionnaire and the Nordic Safety Climate Questionnaire. Each variable dimension was analyzed using the Spearman correlation method. Results: The results indicate that most workers, 47.7%, have both very high consideration and high initiating structure leadership style level. There is a relationship between leadership style and work safety climate with a correlation coefficient of 0.787 and shows a strong positive correlation. Conclusion: There is a strong positive relationship between leadership style and safety climate.

Abstract

Introduction: An Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) work environment is defined as all activities undertaken to ensure and protect the health and safety of workers through the controlling of the working environment and the implementation of sanitation and hygiene principles in the workplace with the aim of creating a safe and healthy working environment to minimize the risk of accidents and illness. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the suitability of occupational health and safety (OHS) in the working environment of PT Japfa Comfeed Indonesia Tbk. Gedangan – Sidoarjo Unit based on the regulation of Minister of Manpower No. 5/2018. Methods: This research was descriptive and qualitative. The data used was primary and secondary. The primary data are taken from the Company Health Safety Environment (HSE) Department and the secondary data was from the company measurement results and documentation. Result: The results show that the measurement and control of the risk factors was quite good but there were still inconsistencies, namely room temperature which still exceeded the provisions, and the measurement and control of ergonomic and psychological factors which had not been implemented. The availability of hygiene facilities and the infrastructure in the company was classified as good and supports the work activities but it still needs improvement including the presence of a sewer that is not closed, and the air quality in the rooms and the trash still not meeting the standards. Conclusion: The implementation of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) in the working environment of PT. Japfa Comfeed Indonesia Tbk. The Gedangan-Sidoarjo Unit based on the Minister of Manpower Regulation No. 5/2018 is quite good but there are several aspects where improvement is necessary.

Abstract

Introduction: In mining production activities, haul dump trucks are utilized for transportation purposes and are driven by an operator. The haul dump truck operator works in a shift work system consisting of 12 working hours. The workers are required to always control the steering speed, causing potential work fatigue. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between mental workload and sleep quantity with work fatigue among haul dump truck operators. Method: This study was a quantitative research study using a cross-sectional design. The population was 179 haul dump trucks operators, while the sample was 123 respondents determined through simple random sampling. The variables of this study were age, years of service, education level, mental workload, sleep quantity, and work fatigue complaints. The data was tested using the Chi-Square test. The instruments used to obtain the data were the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Task Load Index and the Work Fatigue Measurement Tool Questionnaire. Result: The haul dump truck operators (54.5%) had a high mental workload, low sleep quantity (61.8%) with less than 7 hours of sleep, and moderate fatigue complaints (44.7%). There was a significant relationship found between age (P-value = 0.018), years of service (P-value = 0.039), and sleep quantity (P-value = 0.001) with work fatigue complaints. The level of education and mental workload had a significance value above 0.05. Conclusion: Sleep quantity has a significant relationship with work fatigue complaints. This can be responded to by intensifying the information on the socialization of fatigue and the importance of maintaining the quality of sleep.

Abstract

Introduction: Work fatigue can be caused of excessive workload and work capacity such as age and tenure. This study aimed to analyze the strength of the correlation between individual factors and mental workload with work fatigue on the Surabaya Patchouli Terminal crane operator. Methods: The study design is a cross sectional. The sampling technique taken was total sampling so that all populations were a sample of 30 people, consisting of CC and RTG operators in Nilam Terminal Surabaya. The independent variables are individual factors including age and years of service obtained from the questionnaire, mental workload which is assessed based on the NASA-TLX questionnaire, while the dependent variable is work fatigue measured using a reaction timer. The collected data were then analyzed using the Spearman correlation. Results: The results show 23 operators (76.7%) experienced heavy work fatigue and 7 operators (23.3%) experienced moderate work fatigue. Conclusion: The strongest correlation is mental workload with work fatigue and the weakest correlation is age with work fatigue. Meanwhile, correlation tenure with work fatigue is in between. It is recommended to provide psychological consultation once a week for operators.

Abstract

Introduction: Workers of swallow nest industry are at risk of experiencing musculoskeletal disorders due to monotonous swallow nest cleaning activity which puts heavy load on their extremity area of the upper body. This research seeks to analyze the relationships of age, gender, nutritional status, exercise habits, working hours, and working position with complaints of musculoskeletal disorders in swallow nest cleaning workers at PT. Lentera Alam Nusantara. Method: This type of research uses observational with a cross-sectional approach. The population in this study were all workers in the cleaning and washing section of swallow nests at PT. Lentera Alam Nusantara Surabaya, totaling 50 people. Determination of the number of samples using simple random sampling lemmeshow formula, obtained a sample of 36 workers. Results: The majority of workers are 35 years old, female, obese nutritional status, rarely exercise, have 8 hours of work, moderate work position, and the majority have moderate muculoskeletal complaints. Based on the analysis test results using the spearman test, it shows that the factors that have a significant p-value <0.05 include ages, gender, nutrition status, exercise habits, and working hours. Conclusion: Thus, it can be concluded that there is a relationship between age, gender, nutrition status, exercise habits, and working hours with complaints of musculoskeletal disorders.
