Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The elderly population has a rapid development. The elderly is often labeled as unproductive, even as a burden on the family. Simple but effective skills activities can be an alternative solution. One of them is by making fermented single onion-based functional food products. This community service aims to extend the productive activities of the elderly population. Fermented garlic products can be consumed alone to improve health. In addition, products can be sold so that they can become additional income for the family. There were three methods, namely counseling, training and mentoring. Counseling related to the health of the elderly, training in making fermented single garlic directly to the target and assisting in implementing the flow of fermented garlic making until the product is successful. The community service program was carried out in the Elderly Group of Mulyosari Village, Surabaya with 50 participants. Counseling and training were carried out with visual power point materials, demonstrations on how to process fermented garlic, and direct practice with mentoring for 10 days until the product was finished. Conclusion: Community service in the form of counseling has an impact on increasing the knowledge of the elderly in Mulyosari Village. Training and assistance in making fermented garlic can also be practiced independently by the elderly as proven by the success of the finished product. This activity can increase the productivity of the elderly, benefit health by consuming it, and become a business opportunity. abstrakPenduduk lanjut usia memiliki jumlah perkembangan yang cukup pesat. Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is still a health problem in Madiun City. Based on data from the Madiun City Health Office (2011-2015) there has been a significant increase in DHF incidence over the past 5 years. Most DHF patients in Madiun City are elementary school children. This indicates that the program of DHF especially in primary school in Madiun is still less effective, especially routine health counseling by the heakth service centre related to PSN through 3M plus activities. This study aims to analyze the influence of routine health counseling by the health service centre to the incidence of DHF in Primary School in Madiun City. This research is an observational analytic research with case control design. The population in this study is divided into 2 groups, namely the case population (SD with DHF incidence) of 33 SD and control population (SD not with DHF incidence). The sample in this study is divided into 2 groups, namely the case sample (SD with selected DHF incidence) of 30 SD and control sample (SD not with DHF incidence) of 30 SD. Sampling technique is by Simple Random Sampling. From the result of the analysis test, it is found out that the routine health education of Puskesmas has an effect on the occurrence of DHF in Primary School in Madiun City (p = 0,001).

Abstract

Highlights: Low levels o physical activity are the major risk factor of central obesity among Indonesian men. There was a relationship between smoking status,  smoker type, cigarette type, physical activity, and meat consumption frequency and the incidence of central obesity.   Abstract: Obesity is one of the leading health problems in both developed and developing countries. Central obesity can be defined as a condition where excess fat has accumulated in the abdominal area. There are several risk factors that may cause central obesity in men such as smoking habits, physical activity, and dietary habits. This study aimed to analyse the risk factors of central obesity in Indonesian men. This was an analytical observational study using a cross-sectional design. It used secondary data from the Indonesia Family Life Survey (IFLS 5) with a sample size of 4,648 respondents. The variables studied here were smoking status, type of smoker, type of cigarette, physical activity, and meat consumption frequency. Logistic regression analysis was used. The results of this study showed that the mean age of the respondents was 51 years old. There was a relationship between smoking status (p=0.000), type of smoker (p=0.002), type of cigarette (p=0.000), physical activity (p=0.000), and meat consumption frequency (p=0.024) and the incidence of central obesity. The conclusion of the study was that there was a relationship between smoking status, type of smoker, type of cigarette, physical activity, meat consumption frequency, and the incidence of central obesity, all of which were risk factors of central obesity in Indonesian men. A low level of physical activity was the most prominent risk factor associated with central obesity among Indonesian men. From this study, we suggested controlling the risk factors of central obesity by providing education on the dangers of smoking and the importance of physical activity and a balanced nutritional diet.

Abstract

Wasting is a nutritional problem that is still the focus of attention in the management of health problems in infants and toddlers. The existence of the COVID-19 pandemic has hampered Posyandu service activities for toddlers, so that control over toddler waste has decreased. The role of cadres as the leading pillar in community service, especially with toddlers, is the main focus that needs to be put forward. Increasing the knowledge and skills of cadres is important to improving the quality of service to the community, especially toddlers. This community service aims to increase the role of posyandu cadres in an effort to reduce waste problems through increasing knowledge and developing MP-ASI innovations from high-protein multipurpose flour products. This activity consisted of two methods, namely, TOT (training of trainers) for cadres and mentoring toddler waste by posyandu cadres. Training activities for cadres consist of materials on wasting and prevention efforts as well as training on making MP-ASI based on high-protein multipurpose flour. This community service activity is carried out in the working area of Bulak District with a focus on selected Posyandu with the target of wasting toddlers. The results of this community service activity can be seen in the increase in the knowledge of posyandu cadres in the Bulak District by 16.5% about the problem of toddler wasting. The improvement in the skills of cadres and mothers of toddlers in processing various kinds of toddler food menus based on high-protein multipurpose flour also looks quite good, as evidenced by the success in creating various types of food menus that are directly applied to toddlers. The conclusion in this community service activity is that counseling, training, and assistance provided can increase the knowledge and creativity of posyandu cadres and mothers of toddlers in creating MP-ASI based on high-protein multipurpose flour as an effort to combat wasting.
