Abstract

Benanga Reservoir in Samarinda serves as a water source, river conservation area, and fishery location that supports local subsistence and commercial activities. However, the suboptimal management of plastic waste around Benanga Reservoir increases the risk of microplastic pollution that threatens human health and food security through fish consumption. This study aims to identify the types and amounts of microplastic contamination in Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) and Puyau (Osteochilus vittatus) in Benanga Reservoir waters. The research method is quantitative-descriptive exploratory. Fish samples were taken by purposive sampling method at 4 station points using a net (gillnet), the gills and digestive tract were destroyed using 10% KOH and flotation with 0.9% NaCl to be observed using a light microscope with the help of optilab viewer. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Analysis of 12 fish samples showed the presence of microplastic contamination in all samples with a total of 155 particles including fiber, film, fragment, and pellet forms with various colors and sizes. The average abundance of tilapia is 11.4 particles/tail, while in puyau fish it reaches 14 particles/tail. Cumulatively, the level of microplastic contamination in puyau fish (98 particles) was identified as higher than in tilapia (57 particles), with fiber particles predominating in both species. The presence of microplastics in this local fish population emphasizes the urgency of waste management and pollution mitigation to ensure food security and ecosystem integrity in the Benanga Reservoir.

Abstract

Stunting is a chronic health problem that affects the quality of human resources and long-term economic development, particularly in rural areas. Stunting prevention requires a comprehensive approach that integrates health interventions with village economic instruments, especially the Village Fund. This community service program aims to enhance the awareness and commitment of communities and village authorities in preventing stunting through education and optimization of the Village Fund. A participatory and collaborative approach was applied through socialization activities, focus group discussions, and mentoring for village officials, village councils, health cadres, and target communities, particularly pregnant women, prospective brides, and families with children aged 0–24 months. The results indicate improved awareness among communities and village stakeholders regarding stunting as an investment in village economic development, strengthened commitment to allocating Village Fund resources for health-related programs, and the establishment of cross-sector collaboration involving village governments, health centers, and higher education institutions. The program generated initial impacts in increasing community understanding of nutrition, sanitation, and clean and healthy living behaviors as integral components of stunting prevention. Therefore, village-based economic education and Village Fund optimization represent a strategic approach to supporting sustainable stunting reduction efforts.

Abstract

A global issue concerning palm oil that is currently and will continue to develop is related to access to export markets or international trade. The international market, particularly the European Union, demands that the management and processing of palm oil plantations be responsible, taking into account social, environmental, and economic aspects. To be accepted in the international market, the palm oil produced must be sustainable and environmentally friendly. One government program to respond to this challenge is the development of the Indonesia Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) policy. Most independent smallholders have not yet implemented the ISPO policy. Kolaka Regency is one of the centers of palm oil production in Indonesia. This study aims to review the level of readiness for implementing sustainable palm oil certification in Kolaka Regency. This study focused on four main sub-districts: Tanggetada, Polinggona, Toari, and Watubangga. Involving 125 respondents from eight villages, the sample was selected using a multistage disproportionate purposive sampling method. The overall ISPO standard achievement among smallholders was 48.0%, indicating less sustainable management practices and partial readiness for certification, while also underscoring the need for continued capacity development to meet all mandatory ISPO criteria. The results of this study can be used as a set of indicators for the achievement of the 2020 regulation on ISPO implementation in Indonesia. These findings offer actionable evidence for stakeholders at the provincial and national levels to accelerate ISPO implementation and strengthen the sustainability performance of the Indonesian palm oil sector through improved extension, financing, and governance support for independent smallholders.

Abstract

Student perception is their view and assessment of the experience and learning process in the classroom. This is important to study because the success of a learning model is also determined by how students interpret and respond to its implementation. This study aims to determine student perceptions of the implementation of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) learning model based on experiments with scientific articles as products in lower-level botany courses. This study is a quantitative descriptive study with an ex post facto approach using a survey method. Sampling was carried out using a purposive sampling technique on students of the Biology Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Mulawarman University. The data analysis technique used descriptive statistical analysis. The results of the data analysis show that the average result of all observed aspects obtained a percentage value of 84.99% which is included in the "very good" category, so it can be concluded that students of the Biology Education Study Program have a positive perception of the implementation of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) learning model based on experiments with scientific articles as products in lower-level botany courses. Therefore, these findings emphasize that the implementation of this learning model is worthy of being maintained and further developed with improvements, particularly in technical aspects and structured academic mentoring to optimize the quality of the learning process and outcomes.
