Abstract

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of using the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach assisted by GeoGebra in teaching mathematics at a public junior high school in the city center. To assess the extent to which the implementation of RME meets the desired learning standards, the CIPP model (Context, Input, Process, Product) was applied. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis, and analyzed using a descriptive-evaluative method. The findings reveal that the implementation of RME assisted by GeoGebra generally meets the required criteria. The context component reached 100%, input 80%, while the process and product components achieved 85% and 100%, respectively, all of which are categorized as highly appropriate. Nevertheless, several challenges were identified, including limited internet access for using GeoGebra, the lack of professional certification among some teachers, and less-than-ideal instructional time. Overall, the RME approach assisted by GeoGebra proved effective in enhancing students’ conceptual understanding of mathematics, particularly on the topic of three-dimensional shapes such as cubes and rectangular prisms. The average score of students’ conceptual understanding increased significantly from 47.76% in the pretest to 80.29% in the posttest, with the indicator “restating a concept” showing the highest improvement at 93.27%.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Mathematical problem-solving skills are an important competency in the 21st century, but it is still a challenge for junior high school students due to the low active involvement of students in the learning process and the limitations of conventional learning media that do not support critical and exploratory thinking processes. This study aims to test the effectiveness of discovery-based interactive learning media in improving the mathematical problem-solving ability of grade VIII junior high school students. This study uses a quantitative method with a one group pretest-posttest design. The subjects of the study were grade VIII students in one of the junior high schools in Yogyakarta who were selected purposively. The research instruments were in the form of mathematical problem-solving ability tests and media implementation observation sheets. Data analysis was carried out using a paired sample t-test with the help of SPSS 25. The results showed a significant increase in mathematical problem-solving ability after the use of learning media, with an average difference in pretest and posttest scores of 31.806 points and a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). All mathematical problem-solving indicators improved, with the "understanding the problem" indicator showing the highest improvement. This shows that discovery-based interactive learning media is able to support students in building conceptual understanding from the early stages of problem solving. It can be concluded that interactive learning media based on discovery learning is effectively used to improve the mathematical problem-solving skills of junior high school students. The implication of this study is the need to develop and apply interactive learning media based on a constructivist approach more broadly in mathematics learning. Abstract

Perceptions of Implementing Flipped Classroom in Primary Schools during the Covid-19 Pandemic The flipped classroom learning model is a reversal of traditional learning procedures, where what is usually done in class in traditional learning is carried out at home in a flipped classroom. During the current Covid-19 pandemic, many elementary schools are holding lessons using this model. However, the perceptions of teachers, parents, and students have not been well disclosed regarding this learning model. Therefore, this research aims to determine the perceptions of teachers, parents, and students regarding online learning using the flipped classroom model during the Covid-19 pandemic. The research method applied in this study uses a qualitative approach. The instrument used in this study was an interview guide that was validated using expert judgment procedures. Interviews were then submitted to the subjects, which included: teachers, parents, and students at SDN Margoyasan (3 teachers, 3 parents, and 2 students), Tukangan Elementary School (2 teachers, 2 parents, and 2 students), SDN Puro Pakualaman (4 teachers, 4 parents and 2 students), and SD Islamiyah Pakualaman (3 teachers, 3 parents, and 2 students). The collected data were analyzed qualitatively to confirm the research findings. The results showed that the perceptions of teachers, parents, and students towards online learning using the flipped classroom method greatly supported the student learning process during the Covid-19 pandemic. Even so, apart from finding positive perceptions of the subject, technical obstacles were also found due to the lack of individual facilities owned by students.

Abstract

Data from the Central Statistics Agency for West Java Province in the 2023 figures show that the installed electric power in 2022 is 30,196.9 MVA. Based on data from the Indonesia Energy Transition Outlook 2023, West Java Province is in the lowest classification with a percentage of 7-23%. An increase in the number of pico-hydro power plants with a low-head operating system can increase the distribution of electricity supply. Budget allocations for research are available at Polban for internal lecturers, through this scheme, the research team plans to increase the power and efficiency of vortex turbines, the 2023 research output target, an efficiency of 30% from the previous research achievement in the 2022 study of 23.8%. Current studies are carried out with variations in discharge and the number of runner stages to increase the efficiency of vortex turbines. The experimental operation is based on SNI 8277:2016, variations in discharge from 7 to 10 l/s, and the application of one and two stage 630 turbine runners. In addition to variations in discharge, loading gradually until the runner rotation stops. The results of the experimental recording of the application of the one-level 630 runner, obtained the highest efficiency occurring at a discharge of 9 l/s with an efficiency of 37%, while the experimental application of the two-level runner 630 highest efficiency occurred at the application of a discharge of 8 l/s with an efficiency of 34%. The more the discharge is added the response efficiency does not always increase.

Abstract

This study aims to conduct a meta-analysis of studies evaluating the impact of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach on enhancing students' critical thinking skills. Using a meta-analytic method, this research combines data from 16 studies to calculate effect sizes, test data heterogeneity, and analyze moderator variables. The effect size is calculated using the Hedges' g formula and classified according to Cohen's criteria: small (less than 0.2), medium (0.2–0.5), and large (above 0.8). The findings show that RME has a significant positive impact, with effect sizes ranging from 0.193 to 2.737. The largest impact was found in urban areas (effect size 1.2014) compared to rural areas (effect size 0.5581). At the elementary school level, the effect size was 0.7908, and at the junior high school level, it was 0.8287. The highest effect size was recorded in the 2023–2025 period (1.1487). Based on these results, it is recommended that educators and policymakers adopt the RME approach, considering local context and student characteristics. Further research with a larger dataset will strengthen statistical validity and deepen understanding of RME implementation in various learning contexts.
