Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out the communication process between extension agents and farmers in implementing the Jajar Legowo system in Murni Jaya, Tumujajar District, Tulang Bawang Barat District. The location of the study was determined purposively. Data collection was conducted in November 2018. This type of research is qualitative research. Data collection techniques by conducting direct observations to the research site, deep interview interviews with the management of farmer and extension groups, and literature studies. The method of data analysis is descriptive qualitative. The focus of this research is the obstacle of communication between Mekar Jaya Jaya extension agents and Gapoktan in the implementation of the Jajar Legowo Planting System and the solution to deal with the problem. The results of the study showed that the communication carried out by the instructor was quite good, this was because the instructor had meetings with members of the farmer group once a month, carried out the program and continued the work. Whereas farmers who did not want to implement the Jajar Legowo Planting System were caused by the complex nature of the innovation and the cost of implementing the innovation was greater than using the previous planting system, so there were still doubts by farmers to implement the innovation. Efforts are being made to overcome these obstacles, namely the need to improve farmers' perceptions of the Jajar Legowo Planting System, extension workers need to increase the intensity of assistance to farmers, and also need to control and evaluate rice farming carried out by rice farmers in Murni Jaya Village.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the factors and index comparison of components that form the bases in farmers’ decision of using inhibrida rice seeds in Central Lampung Regency. The method of analysis used in this study is factor analysis using Principal Component Analysis (PCA). The results showed the obtained 13 factors affecting farmer's decision to use Inhibrida rice seeds. These factors were obtained after 3 times analysis processes by eliminating the variables that have MSA value of less than 0.5. The thirteen factors were reduced to four components. Of the four components that had formed on the changes in the form of a reference component (component transformation matrix) shows that there were only two components with comparison index of > 0.5, namely the physical of paddy and external components with the value of 0.623 and 0.628respectively. The physical components of paddy consisted of plant age, plant height, rice flavor, grain weight, and potential yield. The external component comprised of plant endurance and product prices. These components were the bases for choosing Inhibrida rice seeds. Keywords: factor analysis, paddy, perception, Principal Component Analysis, seeds

Abstract

The research aims to find out: financial feasibility of pepper farming and marketing efficiency of pepper. This research was conducted in two pepper production centers, Gunung Labuhan Village and Bengkulu Tengah Village, Gunung Labuhan Subdistrict of Way Kanan Regency. Respondents consisted of fifty pepper farmers selected randomly by using stratified random sampling and six pepper traders determined by using snowball sampling. The first goal was analyzed using investment criteria and sensitivity rate. The second goal was analyzed using marketing margins, price correlations, and price transmission elasticity. The results showed that pepper farming is worth to attempt based on the value of investment criteria and the sensitivity rate analysis against changes that may occur. The changes were the production cost increase of 8.38% the production quantity decrease of 30%, and the production price decrease of 13 %.  The market structure was oligopsonistic market with the price correlation coefficient value of 0.47, which means pepper market is not perfectly competitive, and price transmission elasticity value of 1.74, which means the rate of change in consumer prices is greater than the rate of change in producer prices. Key words : feasibility, financial, marketing, pepper

Abstract

This research aimed to know the partnership pattern of contract farming between cluster farmers and PT Mitratani Agro Unggul and the partnership benefits for the farmers.  This research was conducted in South Lampung Regency in October 2012, in which 12 farmers joined this partnership program as respondents.  The data was analyzed by descriptive and farming income analysis.  The results showed that the related partners to contract farming partnership covered: capital assistance, marketing, and knowledge transfer support or trainings.  The contract farming was an official partnership containing the rules in the written contracts of agreement.  The partnership of contract farming had not economically given benefit to the cluster of pepper farmers, because of the low of farmers’ productivities. These low productivities were caused by several problems, such as climate, cultivation technic, bug’s infections, and also lending taradinnes.  The highest R/C was 1.25 and the lowest R/C was 1.01.  Farmers also got non-economically benefits; one of those was the existence of legal law microfinance institution and improvement of the derivative products of chili pepper.
