Abstract

Numeracy is an important skill that enables students to understand mathematical concepts and solve problems in real-life contexts. According to the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), numeracy refers to the ability to use, interpret, and communicate mathematical information in everyday contexts. However, the 2022 PISA results show that Indonesia's average score in numeracy has declined compared to 2018 (OECD, 2023). This indicates that many students still struggle with the stages of thinking processes needed to solve mathematical problems correctly. This study aims to systematically examine the various factors that influence, content, and variations in students' thinking processes in numeracy. This research uses the PRISMA 2020 method by analysing 22 articles selected from the range of 2020-2024. The results showed that the most studied variations included mathematical thinking processes, mathematical literacy thinking processes, and thinking processes in solving problems. Algebra is the most researched content, because it has a framework that includes detailed stages in the thinking process, such as information identification, symbolic representation, and concept application. The most reviewed factors in the thinking process are mathematical ability and cognitive style. Students with high mathematical ability are more systematic in thinking, while students with medium and low ability tend to need scaffolding. Students with field independent cognitive style showed higher creativity than field dependent students.

Abstract

Abstract

Learning mathematics for children with special needs requires an approach that is tailored to the type and needs of each student. This literature review aims to find out about mathematics learning strategies for children with special needs. This literature study presents a literature review of mathematics learning strategies and how they are implemented, including the types of children with special needs, the topics discussed and the level of education of the children with special needs. The literature study method used was SLR (Systematic Literature Review) with the process of selecting articles for SLR referring to the PRISMA flow chart for the period 2020-2024, considering that the literature on learning strategies for children with special needs continues to grow. Data were collected from Web of Science and Scopus databases, and 10 relevant articles from 2020 to 2024 were selected and analysed. The results revealed that from the 10 literatures, it was found that learning strategies must be adapted to the type of special needs that students have. The strategies vary from video modelling, virtual manipulatives, to STEAM and inquiry-based learning, all of which aim to help children with disabilities master mathematical concepts that were previously considered difficult.

Abstract

Purpose – This study aims to examine the comparative effectiveness of Numbered Heads Together (NHT) and Two Stay Two Stray (TSTS) cooperative learning models on students' Higher-Order Thinking Skills (HOTS), investigate the influence of Adversity Quotient (AQ) types (Climbers, Campers, Quitters), and explore the interaction effect between learning models and AQ on HOTS. Methodology – This research employed a quasi-experimental 3x2 factorial design with stratified cluster random sampling among 8th-grade students in junior high schools. Data were collected through HOTS tests and AQ questionnaires and analyzed using two-way ANOVA. Findings – The statistical analysis revealed no significant main effect regarding the effectiveness of the NHT versus TSTS models on HOTS overall. However, a significant interaction was found between the learning models and students' Adversity Quotient (AQ). Specifically, the findings indicate that the NHT model is more effective for students with higher resilience (Climbers and Campers), whereas the TSTS model offers greater benefits for students with lower resilience (Quitters). This demonstrates that the effectiveness of cooperative learning strategies on HOTS is moderated by students' psychological resilience profiles. Novelty – This study uniquely integrates cooperative learning models with students' psychological resilience levels, offering insights into differentiated instructional strategies tailored to learners' AQ profiles. Significance – This study provides practical benefits for educators and curriculum designers in selecting learning models that align with students' psychological characteristics to optimize HOTS. The findings are also significant for school counselors in developing intervention programs to enhance students' learning resilience.

Abstract

This study mapped how computational thinking (CT) has been integrated into mathematics education and how CT and mathematics learning outcomes have been evaluated in empirical Scopus-indexed research from 2016 to 2025. A systematic review was conducted following PRISMA 2020 guidelines. The initial search retrieved 149 records, and 54 studies met the inclusion criteria for analysis. Data were extracted and analyzed using descriptive and thematic approaches. Findings show a rising publication trend with peak productivity around 2022–2023. Studies were dominated by Global North contexts, raising concerns about transferability to resource-limited settings. CT integration was most often tool-oriented, while unplugged and concrete-manipulative approaches emerged as feasible alternatives. From an assessment perspective, studies employed diverse approaches; however, inconsistencies in CT and mathematics indicators, fragmented measurement of the two domains, and limited cross-context and cross-level validation were evident, indicating that authentic assessments jointly capturing CT and mathematics achievement within a single task framework remain scarce.
