Abstract

Understanding and applying mathematical representation are essential in math education. However, many students face challenges in effectively using mathematical representation. Previous research has mainly focused on evaluating students' proficiency in mathematical representation rather than developing strategies to improve their skills. This has led to limited insights into research trends and information related to mathematical representation. Therefore, this SLR is crucial to fill the gap in the literature by providing a comprehensive overview of research trends on mathematical representation. This the study aims to analyze previous research related to mathematical representation, particularly the connection between the theories used, methodological features, the relationship between subjects and mathematical representation skills, as well as learning barriers and interventions to enhance these skills. At the end of the study, it was concluded that the relationship between all these variables was concluded. An examination of 52 scholarly papers on mathematical representation showed that most studies focus on assessing students' ability to use different types of mathematical representation to solve problems, drawing on theories proposed by Goldin and standards outlined by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM). The review also highlighted students' difficulties with mathematical representation and identified various methods for evaluating it, with written assessments and interviews being the most common approaches. Additionally, the review revealed numerous recommended activities to help students enhance their mathematical representation competency. In conclusion, the theoretical framework used in these studies significantly influences evaluation methods and recommended interventions in this field of study.

Abstract

Gifted students in mathematics possess advanced cognitive abilities that often require instructional approaches beyond conventional classroom practices. However, existing mathematics education practices frequently fall short in addressing both the intellectual and affective needs of this population. This study aims to systematically map and synthesize mathematics learning strategies for gifted students reported in the literature over the past decade. Employing a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) guided by the PRISMA protocol, this study analyzed 17 empirical articles published between 2015 and 2025 in Scopus-indexed journals. The analysis combined thematic synthesis and bibliometric techniques to identify dominant instructional approaches, emerging trends, and research patterns. The findings reveal that technology-enhanced learning and differentiated instruction are the most frequently adopted strategies, followed by creativity-oriented instruction, enrichment, self-regulated learning, and acceleration. In addition, recent studies increasingly emphasize equity-sensitive and culturally responsive approaches, particularly in addressing the needs of twice-exceptional students and those from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds. These results highlight the multidimensional nature of mathematical giftedness and underscore the importance of flexible, inclusive, and evidence-based instructional designs. This review provides a conceptual foundation for curriculum development, educational policy, and teacher professional development aimed at optimizing meaningful mathematics learning for gifted students across diverse educational contexts.

Abstract

With the urgency of research in exploring the implementation of the independent curriculum, this study aims to understand how various classroom teaching methods can be used to strengthen students' understanding of concepts and enhance their abilities. The research data is analyzed through a descriptive approach, which is a qualitative method in the context of this study. The results of the study highlight several issues that arise when both schools implement the independent curriculum. One of the main findings is that the independent curriculum encourages teachers to be more creative in designing teaching modules, setting learning objectives, and organizing the flow of learning. As a result, teachers can no longer produce Lesson Implementation Plans (RPP) independently every week. Consequently, the efforts made by schools are more focused on improving the students' profiles that reflect the values of Pancasila. Summative Assessments (PS) are still given to students every day, but not only during the learning process inside the classroom. One important implication of this research is the need to expand the learning space outside the classroom to encourage active and innovative student engagement.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an educational game as a learning media for mathematics at the elementary school level, particularly fractions.  Named Fraction Bakery, this game was developed as a response to complaints of students' and teachers' difficulty in learning and teaching fractions. This difficulty, if poorly addressed, may serve as an iceberg-like issue for their understanding of more advanced mathematic concepts. Number recognition, including fractions, is fundamental to learning mathematics. As a teacher, it is necessary to evaluate such learning difficulties and seek alternative interactive learning media their students can enjoy. For the purpose of the study, the research and development model proposed by Thiagarajan, consisting of Define, Design, Development, and Disseminate stages, was applied. This game was still in the development process by evaluating the media value using trial responses involving undergraduate students of mathematics education at Sebelas Maret University. Regarding the product's interface, 71% of respondents gave a high score, 57% gave a very high score to the game animation, 75% stated that the game would likely motivate users to learn (affective impact), and 57% stated that the materials delivered in the game are highly relevant to the competency

Abstract

The progress of technology necessitates educators to enhance the quality of education and establish an effective and innovative learning environment. Mathematics is often a challenging field of study for students, as they struggle to comprehend abstract mathematical concepts. As professional educators, teachers must be capable of addressing these difficulties. One approach to overcoming these challenges is by providing simple and engaging learning resources for students. Technology is expected to provide convenience for teachers in improving their teaching abilities. By utilizing Geogebra, both teachers and students can engage in visual exploration to understand abstract mathematical concepts, conduct simulations, and approach problem-solving from various angles in a more intuitive manner. For instance, students can explore the relationship between a linear function and its graph by adjusting the line's parameters. The research was conducted on students in the fourth semester of mathematics education who took the Mathematics Learning Media subject, semester IV of the 2021 curriculum of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, the Mathematics Education Study Program at Sebelas Maret University Surakarta for the 2022/2023 academic year which consist of 44 students. Based on the conducted research, it was determined that the Geogebra application can enhance and foster the development of students' mathematical skills. Furthermore, through the visualization of guidebooks, researchers observed that students became more practical, imaginative, and inventive in explaining the implementation of the Geogebra application, particularly in the context of mathematics.
