Abstract

Introduction: Quality of life (QoL) is a multidomain concept that assesses a person through health status, functional status, and symptoms. The patient's QoL is greatly reduced due to the course of disease, severity of symptoms, and side effects of chemotherapy treatment. This study aimed to assess the QoL in advanced lung cancer patients using the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire-C30 (EORTC QLQ-C30). Methods: This descriptive and observational study was conducted at the Pulmonary Polyclinic, Prof. Dr. Chairuddin Panusunan Lubis Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) Hospital from February to July 2024, with a cross-sectional design using patient medical records and EORTC QLQ-C30 questionnaire. The EORTC QLQ-C30 questionnaire was analyzed with a score formula and categorized as good, moderate, and bad. The sample was 100 lung cancer patients using a purposive sampling technique according to the criteria. Results: The results showed that almost all QoL was in the moderate category (80%). The general health status was mostly in the moderate category (61.66%), the functional status was mostly in the good category (75.35%), and the symptoms were in the moderate category (35.65%). In the functional scale, the role domain had the lowest mean, 69.99 ± 29.43. In the symptoms scale, the pain domain had the highest mean, 52.66 ± 29.43. Conclusion: The overall QoL of lung cancer patients was in the moderate category, lower than the healthy population. It needs to be improved, especially in the role domain, by providing supportive-expressive group therapy.

Abstract

The research was conducted from August to October 2023 in five villages that have been determined to be the locus of stunting in the district, namely Paluh Sibaji, Regemuk, Denai Kuala, Bagan Serdang, and Sei Tuan Villages. This research method uses a case control design population in this study were mothers of toddlers who were stunted in Pantai Labu District, totaling 55 toddlers. Sample taken by total sampling with a total of 55 stunted toddlers and 55 toddlers who were not stunted and a total sample of 110 toddlers. This research uses primary and secondary data, with data collection using questionnaires and observation sheets. Data analysis using logistic regression test presenting with odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI) by using SPSS version 25. The results showed that personal hygiene of toddlers (OR = 4.259; 95% CI 1.749-10.372; p = 0.001), personal hygiene of mothers (OR = 4.571; 95% CI 1.752-11.928; p=0.002), and ownership of latrines (OR=2.260; 95% CI 1.051-4.859; p=0.037) influenced the incidence of stunting in Pantai Labu sub-district. Access to drinking water, waste water disposal facilities, and waste disposal facilities had no effect on the incidence of stunting (p>0.05). Mothers are advised to improve personal hygiene for both mothers and toddlers and always fulfill the criteria for latrines to meet the requirements. Keywords: Stunting, Personal hygiene, Sanitation

Abstract

In order to improve equitable access to education, the government implemented a zoning policy in the admission of new students from kindergarten to senior high school level. This research is conducted to explore the alignment between the zoning policy and the theory "Justice as Fairness" initiated by John Rawls. Literature study by reviewing various relevant reading materials is used as a method of this research. The results of this study include the alignment between the goal of equalizing education and Rawls' theory of justice. In addition, the policy's attention to economically disadvantaged students is also in line with Rawls' principle of justice, which prioritizes benefits to the most disadvantaged parties. Although this policy has a strong alignment with Rawls' theory of justice, its practice still causes many problems. In order to maximize the achievement of educational equity promoted by this policy, the government and all parties involved must always work together, and carry out this policy honestly, fairly, openly and critically.
