Abstract

Abstract

Based on data released by Globocan in 2020, the incidence of colorectal cancer is the fourth highest in Indonesia (8.6%) and the third in the world (10%). This disease is hard to treat because the available therapy is less effective. Therefore, it is necessary to develop effective alternative therapies, especially those originating from Indonesia's natural resources, easy to obtain and reproduce. This study aims to determine the potential of red eye snail extract as an anticancer through cytotoxicity tests with the MTT Assay method on colon cancer cells WiDr and DNA fragmentation tests with Hoescth staining. In this study, we used various concentrations of the red-eye snail extract to test with 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2-5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) and doxorubicin reagents as positive controls. Absorbance values were read using a microplate reader at a wavelength of 595 nm. The cell absorbance data was converted into cell viability and probit analyzed to obtain the IC50 value. The results showed that the higher the concentration of the extract caused a decrease in the number of WiDr cells and an increase in damage to the structure of WiDr cells. Based on the results of probit analysis, it was found that the IC50 value of the extract was 36.28 µg/mL or classified as moderate cytotoxicity. The DNA fragmentation test showed that at concentrations of 125 ppm and 62.5 ppm, it was able to provide an effect similar to doxorubicin, namely triggering apoptosis in WiDr colon cancer cells.

Abstract

HIV infection is a global issue which is related to the increasing cases of HIV and AIDS in various countries including in Indonesia. Antiretroviral therapy (ART) that addressed for reducing the virus proliferation is not always followed by good medication adherence among patients. The ART loss to follow up (LFU) is a common problem in Indonesia. However, information concerning the affected factors of LFU among HIV patients with ART is limited. This study aimed to investigate the affected factors of LFU among HIV patients in the early two years of ART. A retrospective cohort study was conducted in Dr. Sardjito General Hospital, Yogyakarta among 369 medical records of HIV patients that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The inclusion criteria were HIV patients who started ART in January 2008 to December 2012, aged > 17 years with a complete medical records. The data of sociodemography and medical status patients were obtained from medical record, ART, and pharmacy register of the patients. Patient characteristics observed in this study included demographic factors such as age, sex, residence, education level, risk factors, and also medical status factors such as clinical stage, tuberculosis (TB) co-infection, functional status, and CD4 cell counts. The data were analyzed using Kaplan Meier and Cox Proportional Hazard. The results showed that patients with TB co-infection in early therapy and working functional status were significant factors of LFU (p<0.05). Patients without TB co-infection were half as much protected from LFU compared to patients with TB infection (HR=0.50; 96%CI: 0.34-0.75). It can be concluded that TB coinfection in early therapy and working fuctional status are the significant factors that influenced the LFU incidents in the two years of early therapy.

Abstract

Cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) is an important food plant in Indonesia, particularly as a carbohydrate source. We require a plan to increase production and quality. The use of Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) in organic fertilizers is one option. The aim of this study is to isolate, characterize, and evaluate potential microbial candidates for cassava greenhouse growth. K solubilizing, P solubilizing, N fixing, IAA production, protease production, ACC-deaminase, and siderophore production were investigated in 15 tuber root rhizobacteria isolates. The bacterial isolates' ability to grow cassava stem cuttings was then assessed. The rhizobacterial inoculation treatments in this study included fifteen single isolates, a combination of isolates, and controls. With three replications, the experimental design was completely randomized. Five P-solubilizing bacterial isolates (PK AL.2.2, PK LAS 4A.4, PK 4.1, PK Al.2.6, PK Kbm 6.1), two protease-producing isolates (Pro LAS 4B.6 and Pro LAS 5A.3), and one IAA-producing isolate (TSB LAS 1A.6) increased wet plant weight by 20-41% as compared to controls. The results of molecular identification of the six excellent isolates were Burkholderia sp. (PK AL.2.2), Paenarthrobacter nicotinovorans (Pro LAS 4B.6), Burkholderia territorii (PK 4.1), Burkholderia cenocepacia (Pro LAS 5A.3), Burkholderia territorii (PK LAS 4A.4), and Kocuria rhizophila (TSB LAS 1A.6).

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of implementing an interactive e-module on the Thermodynamics material, developed using Collaborative Teamwork Learning and supported by quizzes, on the learning outcomes of Grade XI students at MAN 3 Muaro Jambi. The research method used is a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control-group design. The research sample consisted of two classes: the experimental class, which used the interactive e-module, and the control class, which used conventional learning methods. The instrument used in this study was a learning outcome test validated by experts. Data analysis was conducted using the Mann-Whitney U test in SPSS to determine differences in learning outcomes between the two groups. The test results showed a significance value (Asymp. Sig. 2-tailed) of 0.000 0.05, indicating that the null hypothesis (H₀) was rejected. This shows a significant difference in learning outcomes between the experimental and control classes. Students who learned using the interactive e-module, supported by Quizizz, showed greater improvement in learning outcomes than those in the control class. These findings indicate that the use of an interactive e-module with a collaborative approach and reinforcement through quizzes can significantly enhance students' understanding of Thermodynamics concepts.
