Abstract

Abstract: The aim of this activity is to enhance the skills of the community in Bongo Village, Batudaa Pantai District, Gorontalo Regency by developing functional food products based on local potential. Bongo Village has various natural resources that can be utilized as raw materials for functional food, such as moringa, sweet corn, and skipjack fish, but their utilization has not been optimal, resulting in the community's ability to process these foods being underdeveloped. The methods used include surveys and identification of potential, product development, training, and education for the community. The outcomes of this activity are: 1) the creation of various functional food products including Bongo Village moringa skipjack fish meatballs (Bakso Cakeb) and Gorontalo moringa leaf corn milk (Sujadanke-Go); and 2) an increase in the knowledge and skills of the Bongo Village community in processing functional local food in Bongo Village, Gorontalo Regency. The results of this activity contribute to improving the community’s nutritional welfare through the optimal utilization of village potential and align with the goals of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's), particularly the goal of "Ending hunger, achieving food security and improved nutrition, and promoting sustainable agriculture." Abstract

Anemia is a condition when the hemoglobin (Hb) level in the blood is lower than the normal limit. Adolescent girls are at high risk of experiencing anemia due to regular blood loss during menstruation, and iron (Fe) deficiency is the main factor causing iron deficiency anemia, which is a condition resulting from insufficient iron for hemoglobin synthesis in erythrocytes that function to transport oxygen. The aim of this study is to determine the serum iron (Fe) levels and the number of erythrocytes in anemic adolescent girls who receive a free nutritious meal program. The research method used is an analytical observational approach with a cross-sectional design. The population in this study consisted of 80 anemic femal students, with a sample size of 40 anemic female students. The research results show that the iron levels in anemic adolescent girls who received the MBG program averaged 97.14 ± 91.67, and the average erythrocyte count was 4.87 ± 0.54. The results indicate that the average of both variables is still within the normal range. Meanwhile, the results in the group that has not received free nutrition show an average erythrocyte count of 4.73 ± 0.31, while the average iron level is at 47.50 ± 19.39.

Abstract

Teo yam (Tacca leontopetaloides) is a coastal local plant with potential as an alternative food source; however, its utilization is declining due to decreasing local knowledge among communities. This study aimed to examine the level of knowledge of the Bajo community regarding teo yam, traditional processing techniques, and its utilization as an alternative food source. The study was conducted from January to April 2026 in Bumi Bahari, Torosiaje Jaya, and Torosiaje Villages, Popayato Subdistrict, Pohuwato Regency, using a qualitative descriptive method with an ethnobotanical approach. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation involving 60 informants selected through snowball sampling. The results showed that community knowledge varied by age group, with adults and the elderly demonstrating higher levels of knowledge than younger generations, indicating a decline in local knowledge transfer. Teo tubers are traditionally processed into flour through peeling, grating, soaking, settling, drying, and straining, before being used to prepare traditional foods such as cendol, loho bua, onde-onde, cucur, and ledo. The findings suggest that teo yam has potential as an alternative carbohydrate source while highlighting the importance of preserving local knowledge to sustain its utilization.
