Abstract

Daun kopi liberika (Coffea liberica W. Bull ex Hiern) mengandung senyawa flavonoid, alkaloid, saponin, polifenol dan lainya yang memiliki bioaktivitas sebagai antioksidan, antibiotik, dan antiinflamasi. Senyawa fenolik (flavonoid) berkorelasi dengan aktivitas antioksidan. Antioksidan dapat menstabilkan kekurangan elektron dari radikal bebas sehingga sel-sel terlindungi dari senyawa reaktif. Banyaknya radikal bebas didalam tubuh dapat mengakibatkan berbagai penyakit seperti kanker. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat kadar total fenolik, flavonoid, aktivitas antioksidan dan toksisitas daun kopi liberika. Penelitian dilakukan secara eksperimental. Data yang dikumpulkan merupakan data kuantitatif dan kualitatif yang mana diambil dari hasil pengumpulan sampel, karakteristik simplisia, skrining fitokimia, penetapan kadar fenolik dan flavonoid, uji aktivitas antioksidan menggunakan metode 1,1-Diphenyl-2-Picrylhidrazyl (DPPH), uji toksisitas menggunakan metode Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) pada larva udang Artemia salina Leach. Metode BSLT merupakan metode uji pendahuluan toksisitas senyawa antikanker. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak dan simplisia daun kopi liberika mengandung senyawa kimia yaitu alkaloid, fenolik, flavonoid, saponin, tanin, glikosida dan steroid. Simplisia daun kopi liberika memiliki karakteristik sesuai persyaratan mutu MMI Edisi 5. Hasil penetapan kadar total fenolik yaitu 227,21 mgGAE/g ekstrak dan flavonoid 85,66 mgQE/g ekstrak. Hasil uji aktivitas antioksidan diperoleh nilai IC50 = 48,56 µg/mL dengan kategori sangat kuat, dan hasil uji toksisitas diperoleh nilai LC50 = 143,208 µg/mL dengan kategori sangat toksik. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa daun kopi liberika memiliki potensi sebagai antikanker karena memiliki antioksidan yang sangat kuat dan toksisitas yang sangat tosik.

Abstract

Latar Belakang: Gagal ginjal kronis menjadi salah satu penyebab kematian di dunia dalam berbagai kelompok umur. Kompleksitas pengobatan dengan dengan penyakit gagal ginjal kronis dapat meningkatkan kejadian Drug Related Problems (DRPs). DRPs merupakan suatu kejadian yang berkaitan dengan terapi obat secara aktul atau potensial yang berdampak pada hasil kesehatan seseorang. Tujuan: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kejadian Drug Related Problems (DRPs) kategori interaksi obat pada pasien gagal ginjal kronis yang menjalani hemodialisis di RSUD Dr. Pirngadi Kota Medan. Metode: Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian observasional dengan desain cross sectional, populasi pada penelitian adalah pasien gagal ginjal kronis yang menjalani hemodialisis, teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan teknik simple random sampling. Pengambilan data secara retrospektif dan analisis data menggunakan program SPSS. Hasil: Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat kejadian DRPs kategori terjadi interaksi obat 25 pasien (34,7%) dan tidak terjadi interaksi obat 47 pasien (65,3%). Interaksi obat yang terjadi dengan tingkat keparahan sebanyak 52 kasus, keparahan mayor 4 kasus (7,68%), tingkat keparahan moderat 46 kasus (88,50%) dan tingkat keparahan minor sebanyak 2 kasus (3,84%). Kesimpulan: Berdasarkan hasil penelitian disimpulkan bahwa terdapat kejadian DRPs kategori interaksi obat sebanyak 34,7% pada pasien gagal ginjal kronis yang menjalani hemodialisis di RSUD Dr. Pirngadi Kota Medan.

Abstract

Background: Torch ginger (Etlingera elatior (Jack) R.M.Sm) is a traditional medicinal plant with potential antibacterial properties due to its secondary metabolites, such as flavonoids, tannins, and terpenoids. Staphylococcus aureus is a pathogenic bacterium causing various infections, and increasing antibiotic resistance necessitates alternative treatments. This study aims to explore the antibacterial potential of torch ginger flower ethanol extract against S. aureus. Objective: This research aimed to characterize the phytochemical content of torch ginger flowers, screen for bioactive compounds, and evaluate their antibacterial activity against S. aureus. Methods: The study employed an experimental design, including phytochemical screening, ethanol extraction (maceration), and antibacterial testing using the disk diffusion method at concentrations of 10%, 30%, 50%, 70%, and 90%. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA. Results: Phytochemical screening revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, steroids/triterpenoids, and glycosides. The ethanol extract exhibited antibacterial activity against S. aureus, with inhibition zones of 11.9 mm (weak) at 10%, 16.1 mm (moderate) at 30%, and 21.3–22.5 mm (strong) at 50–90%. Statistical analysis confirmed significant differences (p < 0.05) between concentrations. Conclusion: Ethanol extract of torch ginger flowers demonstrated dose-dependent antibacterial activity against S. aureus, supporting its potential as a natural antibacterial agent.

Abstract

Background: Chitosan, a natural polysaccharide derived from chitin deacetylation, shows potential as a natural edible coating to extend the shelf life of perishable fruits. Utilizing giant African snail (Achatina fulica) shells as a chitosan source offers a sustainable solution to reduce biological waste while replacing synthetic chemicals in food preservation. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of snail shell chitosan as an edible coating in maintaining the physicochemical quality of tamarillo (Solanum betaceum) during storage. Methods: Chitosan was isolated from snail shells and applied at concentrations of 10%, 20%, and 30%. Antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa was tested using the disc diffusion method. Physicochemical parameters including weight loss, moisture loss, color, pH, total acidity, vitamin C content, and total soluble solids (TSS) were measured over 7 days of storage. Results: Chitosan demonstrated strong to very strong antibacterial activity, with the largest inhibition zones at 30% concentration (29 mm for S. aureus; 33.8 mm for P. aeruginosa). The 30% chitosan treatment yielded optimal results: lowest weight loss (3.15%), moisture loss (5.75%), pH (7.72), total acidity (16.44%), and TSS (1.350). Vitamin C retention was significantly higher in the 30% chitosan group (551.47 mg/100g) compared to control (416.53 mg/100g), confirming its effectiveness in inhibiting oxidation. Conclusion: 30% snail shell chitosan proved effective as an edible coating for maintaining tamarillo's physicochemical quality, while providing a natural and sustainable solution for the food industry.

Abstract

Burns are one of the incidents that often occur in society. Currently, the use of burn medicine is very limited, in terms of the cost of treatment and healing is relatively expensive. In this case, the use of natural plants is needed as a treatment for burns on the skin, namely sidaguri leaves. Researchers want to take advantage of secondary metabolites contained in sidaguri leaves and formulate them into pharmaceutical preparations in the form of a gel. The purpose of this study was to determine the content of secondary metabolites in the ethanolic extract of sidaguri leaf and to determine the effectiveness of the gel preparation of the ethanolic extract of sidaguri leaf (Sida rhombifolia L.) on the healing of burns. This research includes simplicia characterization, phytochemical screening, gel evaluation and test the effectiveness of sidaguri leaf extract gel. HPMC negative control group, 1% EEDS, 3% EEDS, 5% EEDS and bioplacenton positive control group. The parameters tested were the diameter of the burn for 14 days. The research data were analyzed using the One-Way ANOVA (Analysis of Variance) method followed by the Tukey test. The results of this study obtained EEDS 5% and bioplacenton did not have a significant difference in the healing of burns in male rabbits on day 14.  It can be concluded that the ethanolic extract gel of sidaguri leaves has effectiveness on healing burns with a dose of 5% EEDS concentration.

Abstract

Acne vulgaris is a common dermatological condition, particularly prevalent among adolescents and young adults. This condition is influenced by several factors, including excessive sebum production, abnormal keratinization, inflammation, and colonization of microorganisms such as Staphylococcus epidermidis within the pilosebaceous follicles. This study aims to develop a gel formulation containing butterfly pea (Clitoria ternatea) extract that meets the physical quality standards of the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) and exhibits antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus epidermidis. The research involved purposive sampling of butterfly pea flowers from Medan City, followed by extraction and phytochemical screening to identify secondary metabolites. Four gel formulations were prepared using carbopol as the base: F0 (without extract), F1 (0.1% extract), F2 (3% extract), and F3 (5% extract). The formulations were evaluated for organoleptic properties, homogeneity, pH, spreadability, viscosity, physical stability through cycling tests, and antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus epidermidis. Phytochemical screening of the extract revealed the presence of alkaloids, tannins, flavonoids, saponins, triterpenoids, and glycosides, indicating the extract's potential antibacterial properties. The butterfly pea extract was successfully formulated into a gel that met acceptable quality standards using carbopol 940 as the gelling agent. Antibacterial tests demonstrated that the formulated gel exhibited inhibitory activity against Staphylococcus epidermidis.

Abstract

Sabun cuci tangan merupakan sabun khusus yang dapat membersihkan tangan dari kuman dan debu serta menjaga kulit agar tetap halus dan lembut. Pasca pandemik Covid-19 membuat penggunaan sabun cuci tangan semakin meningkat. Peningkatan ini terjadi karena adaptasi kebiasaan baru untuk selalu mencuci tangan sebelum dan setelah beraktivitas. Tujuan penyuluhan ini adalah agar masyarakat memahami bahwa mencuci tangan sangat penting untuk mencegah masuknya kuman, virus dan bakteri melalui mulut, hidung dan mata. Seiring berjalannya waktu, inovasi tentang tanaman herbal semakin berkembang dan telah banyak penelitian antibakteri yang diteliti. Salah satu tanaman yang terbukti dapat menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri adalah daun jambu biji. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan ini adalah dengan memberikan penyuluhan berupa ceramah interaktif terkait bagaimana cara pembuatan sediaan sabun cuci tangan dari daun jambu biji. Kegiatan pengabdian dilaksanakan di Apotek Farmasi UMN Al-Washliyah. Hasil pengabdian ini diperoleh masyarakat merespon dengan cukup antusias dan merasa penuh syukur memperoleh tambahan pengetahuan terkait pembuatan sabun cuci tangan cair dari daun jambu biji.

Abstract

Aspirin or acetylsalicylic acid is a class of NSAIDs stable in dry air, in humid air aspirin will over time hydrolyze or decompose into salicylic acid and acetic acid, with the decomposition of aspirin levels that contained in the preparation will experience degradation. Acetylsalicylic acid needs to be made in the form of thin-coated or film-coated tablets. In this research, the method used was tablet coating, followed by evaluation tests of core tablets and coated tablets. The results of this study indicate that amiloCorn starch pectin can be used as a thin layer and enteric coating. The coated tablet formulation from corn starch amylopectin has evaluation test results, namely the formula 1 tablet hardness test is 4.28 kg, formula 2 is 4.94 kg, formula 3 is 4.63 kg, size uniformity test is the diameter and thickness of formula 1 is 10.93 and 3.67 mm, formula 2 is 11.33 and 3.98 mm, formula 3 was 10.95 and 3.70 mm, average weight uniformity test for formula 1 was 389.5 mg, formula 2 was 399.5 mg, formula 3 was 393 mg, disintegration time test for formula 1 in stomach medium was 13, 31 minutes, formula 2 in the stomach medium 20.25 minutes, formula 3 in the intestinal medium 2.44 minutes, dissolution test for formula 1 in 120 minutes the solubility of the active substance reached 84%, formula 2 was 82%, formula 3 was 3% and intestinal dimedium within 210 minutes. The best formula, namely formula 3, meets the requirements for coated film.

Abstract

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the use of hand-washing soap increased. Hand-washing soap using natural ingredients as active ingredients is still not widely developed. One plant that has been proven to inhibit the growth of bacteria is guava leaves. This research aimed to formulate and test the antiseptic activity of liquid hand-washing soap from guava leaf extract. The research method used was laboratory experimental, with stages including; preparation of guava leaf extract, liquid soap formulation with a preparation concentration of FI 5%, FII 6%, FIII 7%, FIV 8%, then the physical properties of the soap will be tested to determine its quality and quality. Apart from the physical test, an antibacterial activity test was also carried out to determine the antibacterial effectiveness of the liquid hand wash soap formulation using the disc diffusion method to determine the diameter of inhibition or area of the inhibition zone. The preparation formula of 7% to 8% concentration of the preparation can inhibit growthStaphylococcus aureus. The diameter of the inhibition zone formed is included in the strong category. Based on research, it can be concluded that guava leaves have the potential to inhibit bacteria S. aureus, and evaluation of the preparations of all formulas shows stability and good characteristics. Each concentration has a good antibacterial effect, where the higher the extract concentration, the greater the diameter of the bacterial growth inhibition zones. aureusresulting from.

Abstract

Bonggol nanas mempunyai kandungan flavonoid yang berfungsi sebagai antioksidan, sehingga dapat melindungi kulit dari penuaan dini. Masker gel peel-off mampu meningkatkan kelembapan kulit dan mudah digunakan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah variasi pengolahan ekstrak dan nanoekstrak bonggol nanas dapat diolah menjadi masker gel peel-off serta untuk mengevaluasi aktivitas anti-aging dari produk tersebut. Jenis penelitian yang dilakukan adalah eksperimental. Dalam studi ini, bonggol nanas diekstraksi menggunakan metode maserasi dan diubah menjadi nanoekstrak, kemudian beberapa pengujian dilakukan, termasuk karakterisasi simplisia, skrining fitokimia pada ekstrak dan nanoekstrak bonggol nanas, pengujian aktivitas antioksidan dengan metode DPPH, serta evaluasi masker gel peel-off yang meliputi uji homogenitas, pH, waktu pengeringan, daya sebar, dan daya lekat. Efektivitas anti-aging diuji menggunakan alat skin analyzer dengan parameter kadar air, elastisitas, dan warna kulit. Hasil dari karakterisasi simplisia bonggol nanas menunjukkan bahwa ia memenuhi kriteria simplisia yang baik. Ekstrak dan nanoekstrak dari bonggol nanas mengandung senyawa metabolit sekunder. Nilai IC50 pada ekstrak bonggol nanas tercatat sebesar 5. 804,72 µg/mL, sedangkan masker gel peel-off dari ekstrak bonggol nanas memiliki warna coklat muda hingga coklat pucat, aroma khas, homogen, pH stabil, dengan waktu pengeringan 15-30 menit dan daya sebar 5-6 cm. Hasil uji aktivitas antioksidan dari sediaan menunjukkan nilai IC50 masing-masing yaitu (F0) 171,4434 µg/mL, (F1) 137,7746 µg/mL, (F2) 155,1636 µg/mL, dan (F3) 146,9484 µg/mL, dengan hasil terbaik diperoleh dari F3. Pengujian statistik dengan One Way Anova menunjukkan hasil yang signifikan.
