Abstract

The research addresses the low proficiency in executing jump floating serves among volleyball players, influenced by factors such as arm muscle explosive power, leg muscle explosive power, hand-eye coordination, and concentration. The study aimed to evaluate the impact of these factors on players' jump floating serve abilities. Using a quantitative approach and survey method, data were collected from 24 male volleyball players at Padang State University. The instruments included the jump floating serve test, One Hand Medicine Ball Put for arm muscle explosive power, Vertical Jump Test for leg muscle explosive power, ball throw response for hand-eye coordination, and Grid Concentration Test for concentration. Path analysis was utilized for data analysis. The results revealed: (1) a significant direct impact of arm muscle explosive power on jump floating serve ability (Py1= 0.358), (2) no significant direct impact of leg muscle explosive power on jump floating serve ability (Py2= 0.119), (3) a significant direct impact of hand-eye coordination on jump floating serve ability (Py3= 0.343), and (4) a significant direct impact of concentration on jump floating serve ability (Py4= 0.251). Additionally, there were no direct effects of arm muscle explosive power, leg muscle explosive power, or hand-eye coordination on concentration (P41= 0.043, P42= 0.242, P43= 0.427). However, indirect effects on jump floating serve ability through concentration were found for arm muscle explosive power (ꜫ1 = 0.090), leg muscle explosive power (ꜫ2 = 0.029), and hand-eye coordination (ꜫ3 = 0.107).

Abstract

This study examines the comparative effects of traditional games and digital media on the development of character values and social skills in elementary school physical education. Motivated by concerns regarding reduced social interaction due to the growing dominance of digital media, the study employed a mixed-methods design involving 69 fifth- and sixth-grade students in Padang, Indonesia. Students participated in interventions using traditional games (Gobak Sodor) and educational digital media (exergames). Data were collected through validated questionnaires and behavioral observation sheets, with quantitative analysis conducted using PLS-SEM and qualitative data analyzed thematically. The findings indicate that traditional games significantly improved students’ social skills, while digital media had a significant positive effect on character values. However, traditional games did not significantly influence character values, and digital media did not significantly affect social skills. These results show that each approach has selective strengths, suggesting that an integrated strategy combining cultural and technological elements may offer a more holistic physical education experience.

Abstract

This study examined the effects of paired and independent overhead passing training methods in relation to leg muscle strength on the overhead passing ability of school-level volleyball athletes. A quantitative experimental design with a 2×2 factorial pretest–posttest approach was employed. Twenty-four students participating in a volleyball extracurricular program were classified into high and low leg muscle strength groups and assigned to paired or independent training. Overhead passing ability was measured before and after the intervention using a standardized skill test. Data were analyzed using paired samples t-tests to identify within-group changes. The results showed a significant improvement only in athletes with high leg muscle strength who received paired training (p < 0.05), while other groups showed no significant changes. These findings suggest that overhead passing improvement depends on the interaction between training method and physical readiness. Further studies with larger samples and factorial analyses are recommended.

Abstract

Physical education has the potential to support not only students’ physical development but also their social and emotional growth. However, physical activity in many physical education classes is still implemented without a clear pedagogical design aimed at developing students’ social awareness. This study examined the effect of Positive Youth Development (PYD)-based physical activity on strengthening social awareness among middle school students. A quasi-experimental pretest–posttest control group design was used involving 60 students (aged 13–15 years) who were divided into an experimental group (n = 30) and a control group (n = 30). The experimental group participated in physical education activities designed using PYD principles such as cooperation, empathy, responsibility, and positive social interaction, while the control group followed conventional physical education learning. Social awareness (caring) was measured using adapted items from the Chinese Positive Youth Development Scale covering empathy, prosocial behavior, social relations, and emotional regulation. The results showed a significant increase in social awareness in the experimental group compared with the control group (p < 0.05), indicating that PYD-based physical activity can support the development of students’ social competence in physical education learning.
