Abstract

Red dragon fruit peel extract contains betalain which has antioxidant activity. In addition, this extract also contains dyes that can be used as coloring agents in cosmetic preparations. The purpose of this study was to study the activity of dragon fruit peel extract and red dragon fruit peel extract soap with various concentrations. Antioxidant activity is taken by the DPPH method. The concentration of red dragon fruit peel extract in soap is 0.3; 0.6; 0.9%. Test results show red dragon fruit extract soap has lower antioxidant activity than the extract. The increased concentration of the extract caused an increase in the antioxidant activity of the red dragon fruit peel extract soap.

Abstract

Essential oil of clove (Syzygium aromaticum) (MABC) with eugenol as its main active ingredient, has been studied as anti-inflammatory agent.  Its important to develop formulation in an advanced research. This study has been conducted to develop a topical dosage form (an ointment using a water-soluble base). The physical properties of water-soluble ointment preparation of MABC and the irritation properties at various concentrations of MABC have been evaluated. Ointment preparation MABC water-soluble base created using the mixing of the PEG 400 and PEG 4000 by a fusion method. Ointment made with a various concentration of MABC (5%, 10% and 15%). Ointment with each concentration were evaluated based on its physical properties such as pH, dispersiveness and adhesion. Ointment also tested its irritative properties on the skin, using test animals guinea pigs by Draize test method. Data from those experiments analyzed by ANOVA with T-test level of 95%. The results showed that the physical properties of water-soluble ointment base with MABC concentration of 5%, 10% and 15% reach the requirements of the pH and adhesion parameter, but not for its dispersiveness. Statistical analysis of each trial did not show any significant in difference. The experimental results against irritation test showed that the water-soluble ointment base concentration of 5%, 10% and 15% did not cause irritation to the skin of guinea pigs.

Abstract

 Abstract  Eugenol contained in the essential oil of clove (Syzygium aromaticum) has pharmacological effects as anti-inflammatory agent. This study aims to develop a topical dosage forms such as creams with type A / M. One important factor in the development of formulations is the determination of the concentration of the active substance. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the concentration of essential oil of clove preparations cream type M / A in the physical and its irritative effect. Cream type A / M contained clove essential oil is made by melting method with concentration of clove essential oil : 5%, 10%, and 15%. Evaluation cream type A / M includes the physical properties of scattered power, adhesion, and pH.  The irritation test also conducted using test animals guinea pigs with Remington method. Data obtained from the experiment were analyzed using ANOVA test continued statistical t-test with a level of 95%. Physical properties test results indicate that increased concentrations of clove essential oils in the cream type A / M led to an increase in adhesion (p <0.05), the scatter (p <0.05) and pH (p> 0.05). The experimental results showed that the irritation test of the type A / M cream with a concentration of 5%, 10% and 15% of clove essential oil does not cause irritation to the skin of guinea pigs. Keywords: Eugenol, cream, irritation index, physical properties Intisari Eugenol yang terkandung dalam minyak atsiri bunga cengkeh (Syzygium aromaticum) memiliki efek farmakologi sebagai antiinflamasi. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian lanjutan untuk mengembangkan bentuk sediaan topikal berupa krim dengan tipe A/M. Salah satu faktor penting dalam pengembangan formulasi adalah penentuan konsentrasi zat aktif. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui pengaruh konsentrasi minyak atsiri bunga cengkeh sediaan krim tipe M/A terhadap sifat fisik dan daya iritasinya.Krim tipe A/M minyak atsiri bunga cengkeh dibuat dengan metode peleburan dengan konsentrasi minyak atsiri bunga cengkeh yaitu 5%, 10%, dan 15%. Evaluasi krim tipe A/M meliputi uji sifat fisik yaitu uji daya sebar, daya lekat, dan pH. Selain itu juga dilakukan uji iritasi dilakukan menggunakan hewan uji marmut dengan metode Remington data yang diperoleh dari percobaan dianalisis dengan statistika menggunakan uji ANOVA dilanjut uji-t dengan taraf kepercayaan 95%. Hasil uji sifat fisik menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan konsentrasi minyak atsiri bunga cengkeh dalam krim tipe A/M menyebabkan peningkatan daya lekat (p<0,05), daya sebar (p<0,05) dan pH (p>0,05). Hasil percobaan uji iritasi menunjukkan bahwa krim tipe A/M dengan konsentrasi 5%, 10% dan 15% tidak menimbulkan iritasi pada kulit marmut. Kata kunci : Eugenol, Krim, Indeks iritasi, Sifat fisik

Abstract

Purifikasi ekstrak etanol 50% daun kelor (Moringa oleifera L.) dilakukan untuk meningkatkan kandungan zat aktif flavanoid, β-karoten, saponin dan tanin yang memiliki aktivitas sebagai antioksidan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui jenis pelarut yang paling optimal antara etil asetat dan n-heksan dalam fraksinasi ekstrak etanol 50% daun kelor. Penelitian dimulai ekstraksi etanol 50% daun kelor dengan maserasi dan dilanjutkan evaporator kemudian waterbath sampai diperoleh ekstrak kental. Ekstrak kental yang diperoleh dari ekstraksi selanjutnya dilakukan purifikasi. Fraksinasi dengan melarutkan ekstrak kental etanol 50% daun kelor (E1) dan aquades pada suhu 70ºC kemudian ditambahkan etil asetat pada corong pisah hingga di peroleh fraksi etil asetat (E2), ekstrak kental etanol 50% daun kelor (E1) ditambahkan n-heksan pada corong pisah hingga terjadi pemisahan fase sehingga diperoleh fraksi n-heksana (E3). Ekstrak dan fraksi dievaluasi parameter meliputi kadar air ekstrak dengan gravimetri, kadar β-karoten dengan HPLC dan aktivitas antioksidan dengan DPPH. Data dianalisis statistik dengan taraf kepercayaam 95%. Hasil Penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kadar air ekstrak etanol 50% daun kelor adalah 4,16 dengan CV 4,62%. Kadar β-karoten paling optimal pada fraksi n-heksana (E3) kemudian etil asetat (E2) dan etanol 50% (E1) yaitu 1.48 ± 0.01%, 1.19 ± 005% dan 0.73 ± 0.01%. Sedangkan aktivitas antioksidan (IC50) paling optimal pada fraksi n-heksana (E3) kemudian etanol 50% (E1) dan etil asetat (E2) yaitu 40.83 ± 0.04 ug/ml, 47.75 ± 0.09 ug/ml dan 58.79 ± 0.10ug/ml. Nilai aktivitas antioksian menunjukkan pada fraksi n-heksana dan ekstrak etanol 50% termasuk dalam kategori sangat kuat sedangkan fraksi etil asetat termasuk dalam kategori kuat sehingga berpotensi sebagai antioksidan.

Abstract

Moringa oleifera L. have good nutritional content including phenolic compounds which can be used as antioxidants and can grow in lowlands and highlands. The purpose of this study was to determine the total phenolic content of the ethanol extract of M. oleifera leaves with variations in the area of ​​collection. The 50% ethanol extract was obtained from the simplicia of M. oleifera leaves by using the maceration method. Analysis of total phenolic content in the extract was carried out using a spectrophotometer instrument with the addition of reagent Folin-Ciocalteu and gallic acid as standard. The results of total phenolic content in Sleman, Wonosari, and Wonosobo areas were (127.87 ± 2.71) mg GAE / g extract, (99.40 ± 2.68) mg GAE / g extract, and (142 , 92 ± 1.81) mg GAE / g extract. The highest phenolic content in the ethanol extract of moringa leaves was found in Wonosobo areas.

Abstract

High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) was one of analytical methodscommonly used to determine the concentration of epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) on green teaextract. The method must be validated in order to fit to its purpose. The aim of this research was toprove that the used method has selectifity, liniearity, precise, accurate and know limit of detection(LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ) is acceptable. The selectivity of analytical method wasdetermined by calculating the resolution value between two peak. Data from 10 μg/mL and100 μg/mL with 5 replicates would give precition and accuration. Precition was known from CV value and accuration was known from recovery value in each concentration. Liniearity was knownfrom regression linear between concentration and wide area of peak. From regresion linear couldcalculate LOD and LOQ. Research show that method of analyse have selectificity withRs= 2.27>1.5; liniearity with r= 0.99; precision with CV 8.74% at concentration 200 µg/mL and3.74% at concentration 500 µg/mL; accuration with recovery 99.76% at concentration 200 µg/mLand 100.52% at concentration 500 µg/mL and the value of LOD is 33.28 μg/mL and LOQ is110.93 μg/mL.

Abstract

Dialkyl-alginate biosurfactant is an amphifilik rhamnolipid biosurfactant that has the potential to be developed into an antibacterial agent. The purpose of this study was to prove that the biosurfactant of dialkyl alginate both before and after creams has antibacterial activity especially against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Test of antibacterial activity of biosurfactant dialkyl alginate at concentrations of 5%, 10% and 20% to Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa using Hammond, et al (2011) modified quantitative method. Enbatic® 1% is used as a positive control and sterile aquadest as a negative control. Determination of antibacterial activity of dialkyl alginate biosurfactant followed by analysis of leakage of protein and nucleic acids using UV-vis Spectrophotometry and leakage of Ca2 + and K + metal ions using Atomic Absorption Spetrophotometry (AAS). The most active concentration was formulated into cream and then performed physical evaluation (organoleptic, pH, adhesion, spreading and viscosity) and tested antibacterial activity using the well method. The test results showed that the biosurfactants of dialkyl-alginate before and after the cream was treated as antibacterial activity. The concentration of 10% was the most active concentration having activity which did not differ significantly to positive control with p value of 0,05

Abstract

Inflammation is the human body's response to a tissue damage as indicated by an increase of vascular permeability. One of the natural substances that can be used to treat inflammation is clove oil (MABC). This study aimed to evaluate the physical properties and MABC emulgel irritation test (Syzygium aromaticum). This experimental study was initiated by the emulgel formulation with three kinds of formula, with each formula contains MABC levels of 10% (F1), 12.5% (F2), and 15% (F3). The physical tests for emulgel was done including pH, spreading test and adhesive test and irritation test in guinea pigs using Draize test method. Statistical analysis by t test with a level of confidence 95% was conducted to detect a significant differences between the treatment groups. The emulgel formula with a concentration of 10%, 12.5% and 15% were physically stable, moreover the dispersive power test for each formula showed normal distribution data (p>0.05) and homogeneous (p>0.05), ANOVA test results obtained significantly different results in each formula (p<0.05), whereas the stickiness test results for each formula more than 30 minutes with pH 6. The results of irritation test by using Draize test  method, indicated that each formula did not show any irritant effect.

Abstract

Pericarp of mangosteen is waste that has been shown have efficacy as an anti-inflammatory and accelerate the proliferation of fibroblasts. Therefore  it need to be formulated in the form of gel to make easy in the use of preparation. It is needed an appropriate gelling agent to produce the good character of gel. This research aimed to know the type of the gelling agent who has the physical properties gel and the activity of the best treat burns. There are three gel formula designed with various  type of  the gelling agent i.e. FI (the gelling agent carbopol); FII (the gelling agent CMC na); FIII (the gelling agent tragacanth). The obtained gels were tested organoleptic, of homogeneity, pH, spreadibility, adhesivity, consistency and the effect of healing burns in nine groups. The collected data were analyzed statistically using SPSS version 16 with kolmogorov-smirnov and continued one way ANOVA or  Kruskal-Wallis, with level of trust 95 %. The results show that all formula mixed homogeneous gel. Formula I have a pH 3,5 while formula II and III having a ph 5 (p < 0,05). The greater spreadibility given by formula III (p < 0,05) and the longest time of adhesivity given by formula II (p < 0,05). The best activity of wound healing given by formula I (p > 0,05). Based on the result show that type of gelling agent can influence the physical properties and activity in the treating burns. Type of gelling agent that show the best physical properties is CMC Na.
