Abstract

With the new curriculum pushing student-centered learning even further, the differentiated learning supposedly becomes the approach to be utilized. Still, students’ interests were supposed to be made into consideration for the content, strategy, product, and environment, but such a notion remains to be seen. Therefore, this study aims to examine remaining issues and challenges faced by the teacher and students of grade 8 as well as to explore how the differentiated content can facilitate students’ interests. Based on descriptive qualitative in nature, the data were obtained mainly from personal interviews with six grade 8 students of SMPN 12 Yogyakarta, their English teacher, and the vice principal for curriculum affairs, and partly through observation and survey of a class. The findings revealed that there were prevalent issues and challenges in the curriculum, the teaching and learning practices, the materials, and the students’ interests. Then, the differentiated contents could facilitate students’ interests in terms of identifying their interests, grouping them based on their interests, providing relevant topics, presenting the content in various interesting media, and utilizing technology to provide sources of learning

Abstract

In the face of rapid industrial changes and globalization, there is a growing demand for highly skilled professionals in quality management within Indonesia. The Indonesian National Qualifications Framework (IQF) seeks to align vocational education with industry demands by establishing a clear framework of work competency standards. However, discrepancies persist between the competencies taught in vocational programs and those required in the industry, particularly in advanced areas such as data analysis and strategic quality planning. This study undertakes a systematic occupational mapping in the quality management sector to identify these gaps and develop strategies to address them. Utilizing methodologies like the Rapid Assessment Process (RAP), Gall and Borg's educational research methods, and Regional Model Competency Standards (RMCS), the study formulates a comprehensive occupational matrix. This matrix serves as a crucial tool for planning human resources, developing relevant educational and training curricula, and fostering career development aligned with market trends and needs. The research outcomes are aimed at enhancing the alignment of vocational education with industry standards, thereby increasing the employability and effectiveness of graduates in the quality management sector.

Abstract

Modality is a salient notion in language, manifested through modal verbs. However, modal verbs are complex grammatical units since they have multiple functions and meanings. Previous studies have shown mismatches between actual language use and its presentation in textbooks, including modal verb representation in both EFL and ESL contexts. This study explored the distributional frequencies of modal verbs in Indonesian EFL textbooks compared to those in Malaysian ESL textbooks. It compiled the textbook conversation corpora from secondary education levels in Indonesia and Malaysia: two Indonesian EFL textbooks (IET) and two Malaysian ESL textbooks (MET), which are nationally endorsed. The corpora comprised 4,548 tokens collected from the conversations in the textbooks. Data collection involved corpus queries focusing on nine core/central modal verbs: can, could, may, might, shall, should, will, would, and must. The results show that Indonesian and Malaysian textbooks shared the same most frequent modal verb distribution; however, other distributions differed. Besides, English modal verbs in Indonesian textbooks are more static with one-to-one correspondence, while Malaysian textbooks present more dynamic modal verb meanings. Notably, Indonesian EFL textbooks have complete modal meaning representation, which is absent in Malaysian textbooks. Interestingly, the modal verb distributions in both textbooks differ from those in a native corpus, representing actual English use. These results highlight the need for more careful consideration when designing and developing teaching materials, especially in ESL and EFL contexts.

Abstract

Tourism requires risk management for its sustainability. With risk management, we can prevent the peril that causes losses, especially in tourism. Looking at the current conditions, the rampant piracy cases of tourism products certainly require a strategy as a preventive measure. Especially with the development of society 5.0, of course, it makes the hazard of these risks even more significant. Moreover, it gives new exposure to tourism management. The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy makes a strategy to protect tourism products by collaborating with the Director General of IPR of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights and training tourism actors to carry out legal protection by owning Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). The IPR was registered with the Directorate General of Intellectual Property Rights of the Ministry of Human Rights. Tourism management in Indonesia requires instilling in the community and local tourism entrepreneurs an understanding of the importance of IPR ownership. The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy is intensively organizing socialization of the importance of IPR to tourism actors, which will be held in December 2021 in various cities to prevent theft of culture and tourism products to realize sustainable tourism. One of them is in Cirebon City; at the end of December, an Intellectual Property Class will contain education about IPR.

Abstract

This study implements and analyzes failover recursive gateway and load balancing using the Per Connection Classifier (PCC) method on the internet network at Universitas Semarang to enhance the reliability and efficiency of bandwidth distribution. The methodology involves using Wireshark for network data testing and analysis. The results demonstrate three main achievements: (1) bandwidth from both ISPs is evenly distributed, (2) the failover system functions optimally by automatically switching to the active link if one ISP fails, and (3) the method effectively balances bandwidth and manages connection disruptions. Before implementation, ping tests to www.google.com showed an average response time of 62 ms, with balanced upload/download speeds of 100 Mbps. After implementation, the ping response remained stable at 62 ms, while upload speeds increased to 158 Mbps and download speeds to 144 Mbps. This study proves that failover recursive gateway and PCC-based load balancing improve network stability and efficiency, providing a reliable solution for bandwidth management and connection continuity at Universitas Semarang.

Abstract

The gap between educational outcomes and industry needs in operations management has become increasingly apparent, highlighting a pressing need for alignment to enhance workforce readiness and national competitiveness. This study aims to identify key competencies required in operations management, map them within the framework of the Indonesian Qualification Framework (IQF), and propose recommendations for aligning educational curricula with industry demands. A qualitative research method was employed, involving literature reviews and expert interviews from both academia and industry sectors to gather data on essential skills, knowledge areas, and role progression in operations management. The findings reveal a comprehensive mapping of occupations within operations management, aligned with the IQF, detailing specific competency standards across different qualification levels—from entry-level to executive roles. The research emphasizes the importance of standardized competency frameworks, industry-relevant curriculum development, stakeholder collaboration, and continuous feedback mechanisms to ensure educational programs remain responsive to evolving market needs. By closing the gap between what is taught and what is required, the study contributes to improving graduate employability and the overall effectiveness of the education-to-employment pipeline in Indonesia. The implications of this research are significant for policymakers, educators, and industry stakeholders in fostering a more integrated, agile, and future-ready workforce. Further studies are recommended to conduct sector-specific analysis and longitudinal assessments of the impact of IQF integration on graduate performance and career progression.
