Abstract

This research examines family disorganization in contemporary Indonesian society through the literary lens of Budi Wahyono's short story collection, Tak Ada Sejengkal Tanah untuk Sajadah. Employing a qualitative descriptive method with a sociological approach, the study analyzes ten stories to identify prevalent family issues and their correlation with social reality. The findings reveal that communication breakdown is the predominant cause of family disorganization, appearing in 80% of the narratives. Other significant factors include shifting gender roles, infidelity, divorce, psychological disorders, economic disparities, and conflicting life perspectives. The literary depictions demonstrate a strong correspondence with actual family dynamics in Indonesia, validating literature's role as a mirror of social phenomena. The writer's background shapes the narratives, creating thematic consistency and authentic portrayals of common family conflicts. This research contributes to literary sociology by showing how fictional narratives can accurately reflect social realities. It also offers practical value for educators seeking to use literature as teaching material for understanding complex family dynamics. Furthermore, it lays a foundation for interdisciplinary research that integrates literary analysis with family counseling and social work practices, highlighting culture-specific insights into Indonesian family challenges.

Abstract

This article examines the transcultural intertextuality in Wing Kardjo’s sonnets “L’Éducation Sentimentale,” which reinterprets Gustave Flaubert’s novel with the same title and Mochtar Lubis’s novel Jalan Tak Ada Ujung. Using Julia Kristeva’s intertextuality framework,  the study examines how Kardjo adapts Lubis’s prose narrative into a sonnet form and reinterprets the thematic, narrative, and stylistic elements of Flaubert’s and Lubis’s novels. Through critical, comparative, and intertextual analyses, the research focuses on Kardjo’s innovative transformation of prose into structured poetic forms, preserving themes of love triangles, guilt, and political conflict. The results demonstrate how Kardjo repositions Lubis’s narrative within the structured form of sonnets and reframes Flaubert’s themes within Indonesia’s socio-political and cultural context. Through recontextualization and transformation, Kardjo creates a hybrid literary work that bridges French and Indonesian traditions, offering a transcultural dialogue that juxtaposes postcolonial struggles with existential disillusionment. This study concludes that Kardjo’s sonnets exemplify transcultural intertextuality as a creative process, enriching comparative literary studies and fostering cross-cultural dialogue through poetic innovation.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the effectiveness of implementing the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model in increasing student engagement in Indonesian language classes. Based on the research findings, it was discovered that the application of PBL significantly enhances students' active participation in the learning process. The collected data showed an increase in the percentage of active learning, from 30% in the Pre-Cycle stage, rising to 48% in Cycle 1, and reaching 72% in Cycle 2. This increase in engagement is reflected in various aspects, such as students' courage to ask questions to teachers and peers, the confidence to express opinions during presentations, and active participation in summarizing the lesson material. The 72% engagement rate surpasses the established success indicator of over 70%. These findings indicate that the PBL learning model is effective in enhancing students' active learning, making it a viable alternative learning strategy to improve the quality of education.
